Fight for Me

Chapter You aint so bad

After breakfast, Layla went looking for Cody. But she couldn’t find him anywhere. He wasn’t in his room, or at the training grounds.

Where could he be?

On her way back to the pack-house she bumps into someone in the back garden.

“Woah.” Looking up, Layla sees a very pregnant, and beautiful woman. “I’m so sorry. I was a bit distracted. Are you fine? Did I hurt you?”

Abby giggles. “I’m fine. No need to treat me like a china doll just because I’m pregnant. I’m still a wolf.”

“Yeah.” Layla starts looking around realizing she probably shouldn’t be talking to her. “Well, I better go.”

“Wait.” Layla looks up. “You’re Layla, right?”

“Y-e-a-h.” She wonders how Abby knows her name.

Abby giggles again. “Anthony talks a lot about you. It was only last night that I could put a face to the name.”

“Oh? What did he say about me?”

“All good things. He’s really taken with you.”

The air grows silent between them.

“I have to ask.” Abby speaks. “What are yo-,….should I b-,…..why did you get so close with the guys?”

“What do you mean? Which guys?”

“Well, you seem to have gotten close with a lot of the guys here,- Tyler, Ben,…even with Anthony and Nicholas. They both were very worried about you last night. But from what I hear, you haven’t even been here for long. Is there something going on between you and one of them? Or…..?”

Layla furrows her brows in confusion. She knows she and Nicholas had a few uncalled-for moments, but she now knows the only thing between them is an agreement. And just the thought of her with Anthony has her pulling her face.

“What? I don’t know what you think you saw, but there really is nothing.”

“Oh. Really? I’m sorry then if I made you feel uncomfortable. I just wanted to make sure. Not that there should be a problem with one of them being with a human. It’s just, they’re both like brothers to me. I wouldn’t want there to be a potential problem of a girl getting between them.” Abby awkwardly laughs.

Layla laughs too. “You’re funny. And nice.”

“Really? The comments I usually get are, - uptight, feisty or just cold.”

“You’re anything but. But then again,…..that belly does make you seem less of a threat.”

They both break out in laughter.

“You aint so bad. Anthony was right about you.” Abby nudges her with her shoulder. “Just be careful to not send him the wrong signals. As charismatic as he is with the ladies, he’s still a softy.”

“No need to worry about that. Anthony knows we are just friends.”

“Oh really?” They both look at the interrupting voice. “Then you should keep more distance between you two.”

“Samantha!” Abby chastises.

“What? I’m just being honest. She already has all the guys running around her. There is no need for Alpha Anthony to become part of those rumours.”

“Excuse me. I don’t have guys running around me.”

Samantha snorts. “You didn’t leave Alpha Anthony’s side for one second last night, just for the night to end with you in the arms of another Alpha. Looks to me like you’re keeping your options open.”

“Samantha. That’s enough.” Abby tries to intervene.

“What is wrong with you? I don’t have, need, or want a man to fight for. I’m pretty content with myself as is, and I don’t need someone to prove it.” Layla says with a serious tone as she steps closer to Samantha.

She rolls her eyes. “Whatever. Just stay away from Alpha Anthony. A human isn’t even worth the air he breathes.”

“I said enough.” Abby says in a deep growl, getting both girls’ attention. “Samantha. I have had about enough of you and your attitude. It’s barely been two days since we’ve been here, and already you managed to be pissing people off. I brought you here to help you get straight. So at least just try to stop being a bitch. And what is with all this talk of Anthony? You better watch yourself.”

Samantha seems to have gone silent hearing Abby’s fierce wolf. She just nods with her lowered head and leaves.

“I’m so sorry you had to see that.” Abby turns to a shocked Layla.

“Well, now I know why people call you feisty. I got literal chills from that.”

Abby huffs with a smile. “It comes with growing up in a warrior pack. You gotta stand your ground if you want others to listen, especially the hard headed ones.” She smirks in Samantha’s direction. “Well, anyways. It was nice chatting with you. I’ll see you at dinner?”

Layla nods. “Yeah. See you tonight.”
