Chapter How? I hid it
Later that night
As dinner was coming to an end, some members already started leaving.
Even though Layla had Anthony and Abby on either side of her tonight to keep her company, she couldn’t help but notice Cody’s absence.
Where is he? Did Nick send him on some secret mission or something? Probably.
Abby had endless questions for Layla, like why she always walks around the house barefoot, or why she likes climbing things. Layla quite enjoyed talking with Abby. She feels like an older sister she never had.
Layla notices those familiar hazel eyes staring at her from the other end of the table. As she looks up, she sees the brothers talking but looking at them amusedly.
They’re obviously talking about us. She thinks to herself as she smirks.
The only person that doesn’t look so amused is Melinda.
Why does she keep looking at me like that? Layla thinks.
Thunk!
Her attention gets pulled with the loud thunk in front of her. Looking up, she sees Rebecca and Samantha looking at her with such snide looks.
Looking down on the table, Layla’s eyes widen when she sees her backpack on it.
How? Why? I hid it.
“You are nothing but trouble, and now I have the proof of it.” Rebecca says looking at everyone sitting around the table.
Just as Layla tries to lean over the table to grab the bag, Samantha grabs it giving it to Rebecca.
“You have no right going through my things.” Layla jumps up, pushing her chair away.
The movement brought complete silence to the room for a brief second, before Nicholas and the rest of his brothers also stand up.
“Rebecca. I suggest you calm down so we can-.” Tyler tries to intervene but is interrupted by Rebecca.
“Quiet! You dare try to interrupt me, Beta? I am your future Luna. Know your place.”
Gggrrhh!! “What is the meaning of this Rebecca?!” Nicholas asks roughly.
“Nicholas. She’s a liar.” She says pointing at Layla. “Look.”
She rips open the bag and countless passports and piles of cash fall out.
Slight gasps are heard in the hall as people see the contents.
“Look at this. We don’t know why she’s really here. She’s obviously lying about who she is. And let’s not forget how she keeps hovering over you and Alpha Anthony. This isn’t good for the pack.”
Before Layla can say something, she hears a growl from Nicholas.
Gggrrrhhh!!
“Enough Rebecca!” His voice echoes against the walls. “Do you dare question my ability to keep this pack safe?”
Rebecca is practically speechless to his dark tone. “I-,…but,……of course not.”
“Then what is the meaning of your actions?”
Rebecca’s brows furrow in confusion hearing his question, but also because all his brothers are glaring, - at her.
“But,……she’s a liar. A criminal probably”
“No, she is not.”
“What?” She says in almost a whisper.
“I know why she’s here. I know who she is. And her presence here will definitely not put this pack in danger. She may be here as a maid, but I invited her here. You, have no right to question my decisions, ……or my guest.”
“Guest?” She questions to herself.
Looking around, she sees she’s alone. Even Samantha left, hiding behind her sister.
“Dinner is already over. I suggest everyone leave,…… NOW.” Nicholas says to everyone still remaining in the hall.
As people start getting up, Layla reaches over again to put everything back in the bag.
Rebecca is still confused with what just happened, she stands frozen in her spot as the hall gets emptier by the second.
With the rest of the pack-members gone, Layla pulls her bag over a shoulder as walks to a still standing Rebecca.
Just as Rebecca looks up to see who is standing in front of her, her face snaps to the side as she feels a slap across her face.
More confused, Rebecca covers her burning cheek, as she looks at the angry eyes of Layla.
“How dare y-.”
“Don’t.” Layla silences her. “Don’t think I don’t know what you were trying to do here.” She steps closer and says in a softer tone. “You wanted to do this in front of everyone, because you wanted to turn everyone against me. But now, you just turned them against yourself. Your own insecurities led to your downfall.”
Layla shoves against Rebecca’s shoulder as she walks past her.
