Fight for Me

Chapter Ghost Killer

Morik and Nick walk down the hallway in their preferred silence. Though, it is quickly broken when they hear a loud growl rumbling through the walls.

They both stop in their tracks and just as Morik glimpses over to Nick, he notices Nick has already started running to the source of it. To where the intruder might be.

The smell of blood quickly fills his nose the further he runs, with Morik not that far from him now. Though, the hallways are practically painted black as all the lights seem to be disabled here. It’s only thanks to his wolf and his habit of hunting in the dark, that it’s almost no problem for Nick to manoeuvre through the corridors.

A crashing sound is heard in the distance followed by another piercing growl. But before he can reach the room where the noises are coming from, he gets a glimpse of a moving shadow rushing down the hallway.

He can feel his heartbeat picking up. And not from the cardio, but from the excitement of the chase. Though, something tells him it’s more than just that.

He rushes to the open door of the room and sees the destruction in it. The room is almost similar to the one he was in with his brothers, though a bit bigger. All the furniture is broken and thrown around, as if there was a tornado.

Though, the potent smell of blood fills the room, and looking down his eyes widen when he sees whose it is.

Nick’s thoughts are interrupted as Morik pushes past him and rushes into the room. Though, when he sees the body on the floor, he suddenly stills. Not bothered to check. Neither of them are, because they can’t hear a heartbeat. He is already dead.

“Mmh?” Morik huffs out looking down at Alpha Reid’s body as if impressed that anyone was able to kill him. “Ghost killer.” He whispers as if confirming he already knows who is behind this.

Gggrrhhh!!!

Nick growls out loudly as he lets his wolf take over and shift to follow the shadowed figure he saw earlier.

His large black wolf sprints through the long and curved hallways hearing nothing but his own laboured breathing and the patter of his paw prints hitting the ground.

He crashes into the wooden door at the end of the hallway, shattering it into pieces. The sudden smell of wet earth and plants hit his nose and he looks around.

He’s outside, in the woods with just the moon as his source of light. It must be an escape passage.

He knows he won’t track the assassin with their scent, he couldn’t pick up on it from the beginning. They’re obviously covering their scent.

Nick’s wolf digs the claws of his paws into the soft ground and slows his breathing. Feeling slight vibrations to his left with the sound of twigs snapping, he instantly rushes off through the trees on his left. Following that pull in his gut to never stop until he catches this assassin.

He sprints, more than eager to just catch this supposed Ghost Killer.

He needs to make sure. He needs to make sure that whatever his gut is telling him is wrong.

With the way that Alpha Reid was killed, -all his weak and vital points were targeted. All the tricks he taught her. Especially in defeating an alpha in a fight. Not to mention this pull that’s directing him through this chase.

Nick’s wolf pushes harder as he starts to hear the running breaths of someone. In the distance he sees a small figure covered in black, running through the dark forest.

Just as his large wolf lunges to jump on the running figure, they duck, sending Nick’s wolf flying over them.

Tumbling and rolling on the ground, he hurriedly looks back at the assassin who seems ready for any of his attacks. He can’t make out their face as the large hood over their head sends a dark shadow covering it.

A deep growl rumbles through his chest, seeing the assassin deftly bend down and pull out two silver daggers from their boots. But the assassin doesn’t attack, they’re rather just standing still as if waiting for him to attack first, as the two of them continue to circle each other.

I don’t have time for this. Nick lunges at the assassin, yapping at either of their hands holding the daggers.

But they’re quick to dodge him, as the assassin runs and slides through under him avoiding his teeth.

Nick’s wolf raises an annoyed and suspicious eyebrow, -as much as a wolf can.

If this is her, then fine. She did always get all flustered and slow-witted in front of half-naked men.

So he shifts back into his human form, standing tall and naked in front of his opponent.

He can’t help but smirk, as he hears a sharp intake of breath.

As he lunges at the ‘assassin’ again, he’s surprised to see their quick reflexes at dodging him yet again.

He’s starting to get infuriated. More at the possibility that this might not be her. He needs to know.

He clenches his jaw and fists as he lunges again. This time not at all concerned about avoiding those silver daggers.

A sizzling sound is heard as the dagger cuts his arm. And just as the assassin tries to retreat, he already has their wrist in a firm grasp. Wrapping his other arm around the assassin’s waist, he pulls them in and firmly against his naked body.

The force sends the hood flying back and exposing the assassin’s face.

“It is you.” Nick says annoyed, but relieved. His breath fanning her face.

He didn’t need to see her face. He knew it the moment he felt her body fit so perfectly into his. He still remembers holding her like that almost every night. He had gotten so used to it, that the moment she disappeared, he forgot what it was like without her around. He didn’t just want her. He needed her. And here she is, in his arms.

Finally. He smirks down at her.

But the sudden punch from her free hand, pushes the two of them apart, just getting Nick angrier.

Looking up, he sees the blue glow of her mysterious eyes warning him, with her sudden sinister aura prickling his wolf. But he can’t help but grin, finding her determination and threat quite arousing.

Still the fighter.

But before he can make a move, she throws a sack onto the ground which practically explodes with dust flying everywhere and blocking her from him. Nick rushes through the cloud of smoke and powder, reaching and grabbing for anything.

He breathes into his elbow as he starts coughing, but continues to look for her. But nothing.

Just as the smoke and dust starts to clear, he finally comes to the conclusion that she is already gone.

Soon after, he hears more people running in his direction.

“Where is he?” ,”Did you catch the Ghost killer?”

Nick hears the questions being thrown at him simultaneously.

Turning around, he sees one of the alphas that helped him get Maxim out, and a very annoyed looking council member, Morik.

“No. He got away.” Nick says as he looks past their shoulders and at Ruhan running to the crowd, clearly still as fit as an alpha.

“He got away?” Morik asks disbelieving.

But Nick just nods as he turns to Ruhan. “How is my brother?”

“He’ll live. Any means to identify this Ghost killer? He clearly knows how to cover his scent.” Ruhan gets straight to the point.

But before Nick could even think of an answer, Morik steps in. “We don’t even know if it’s the Ghost killer.”

Nick looks at Morik suspiciously. Is he really going to be in denial about this when he was the one so sure that it was the Ghost Killer?

But Ruhan turns at his fellow council member in annoyance. “Unless you know of anyone else that has the intention of killing off council members and alphas of supernaturals in the dark to just disappear without a trace, we will take this incident as the actions of this damned Ghost killer.”

Silence fills the air as Ruhan looks at Nick again. “Besides, this assassin is quite skilled if he managed to get away from Alpha Nicholas unscathed and still left him with a scar.” Ruhan points to the cut on his arm which obviously hasn’t healed yet. “You should have that looked at.”

“Most have already left for their own safety.” Says Victor as he approaches the small crowd with Braham not that far behind him with his cane.

Braham stomps his cane on the ground as he comes to a stop. “We’re having Alpha Reid’s body being looked at right now. But from what we’ve deduced, he was obviously caught off guard. He tried to fight back, but it was already too late for him by then.”

“We don’t have time for this.” Ruhan bursts out in his fiery anger. “We already have too much to deal with, with this fucking war. We don’t have time for an assassin on our asses as well.”

Silence fills the air, with only the whistling of the wind blowing through the leaves and branches to be heard.

“Alpha Kyle.” Ruhan looks at the alpha that came with Morik. “You will assist your council in hunting down this Ghost killer assassin, covertly of course. Together with the help of Alpha Nicholas.”

Nick looks at Ruhan with a questioning look, while Alpha Kyle sharply nods his head in acceptance of his mission. Though, the vein on Alpha Kyle’s forehead protrudes as he ponders on how he got himself into this vexing situation.

“After all,” Ruhan continues as he looks at Nick, “this assassin did injure your brother, killed a family friend, and not to mention, you’re the only one known to have fought him and survived.” He points at the bleeding cut on his arm again.

Nick looks between the council members and at Alpha Kyle who is obviously a kiss ass, -just nodding at their requests before thinking them through.

“I would prefer to work alone.” Nick says as he folds his arms not at all bothered by the blood dripping from his arm and down his naked torso.

“Two is better than one.” Braham says as he stomps his cane on the ground again. Obviously annoyed with Nick’s response.

“Then don’t blame me if he gets killed for getting in my way.”

Though Alpha Kyle releases a loud growl, clearly feeling disrespected with his dominance and strength of an alpha being undermined.

“Calm down.” Victor says, scratching the scar on his neck as he loosens his bothersome tie. “Honestly, whatever happens, happens.” He says nonchalantly as he looks between the two. “As long as this assassin won’t continue being a concern for us in the future. Just make sure to be ready when we call you.” He says before he nods to his fellow council members and walks back to their supposed hideout.
