Convenient Marriage: Mr. Nelson's Love Trap

Chapter 17: The Bastard She Was Carrying

Matthew nodded to himself. His jaw was inexplicably tight at that moment, which showed how nervous he was.
Then he spoke in a low voice. “Well, spit out.”
“Eight years ago, Randolph Flores and his wife, Jessica, got divorced. Randolph immediately sent Jessica and their daughter,
Dolores, to A Country . They haven’t been back in the past eight years. Randolph only brought them back here not too long ago.”
Matthew frowned. He was wondering, was this the reason she could speak A country language? Because she lived there for
eight years?
“That’s it?” Matthew wanted more information.
Abbott paused for a few seconds and then continued, “After he sent Jessica to A country , she gave birth to a boy with autism.
The boy lived a tough life and died in a car accident before Jessica and Dolores returned.”
Matthew frowned. His expression grew more serious. He couldn’t help but assume that the reason Dolores was so sad was
because of her brother? Then what happened with the child in her belly?
Matthew asked, “That’s it? No man has ever been close to her?”
“No... The only man close to her was a psychologist,” Abbott said, carefully checking the information sent from the investigator
from A Country .
Abbott continued. “That’s it. She didn’t date anyone at school, and no other men were close to her.”
Matthew stood in silence, thinking. In other words, the child’s father might be the psychologist. And the reason Randolph took
her back was only because of their marriage? The reason she cared a lot about money was that she lived a hard life in A
Country , which was also why she charged money for translating
Thinking about it that way, Matthew felt that he finally understood Dolores. He also understood what Sampson meant. Matthew
felt complicated. He looked back, then got in the car and left the hospital.
At the hospital, Dolores was hungry because she didn’t eat lunch.
“Mom, I want some cookies.,” Dolores said, suddenly wanting to eat sweets.

Jessica had been through the same thing with her children. She knew that when a woman was pregnant, she would have
cravings for the most random things.
She could not help but think about a saying about how a woman who prefers sour usually has a boy, and a woman who prefers
spicy usually has a girl. Jessica wondered if Dolores was going to have a boy or a girl.
“I’ll go back and make some for you.”
Jessica got up paused when she realized no one would take care of Dolores in her absence.
Dolores understood what Jessica was thinking.
She smiled lovingly at her mom. “I’m fine. Don’t worry. The doctor said I just need to rest.”
If it wasn’t for worrying about the baby in her belly, she wouldn’t even need to be hospitalized at all. Jessica nodded and told her
to rest before leaving the ward.
When Jessica got out of the car and walked into her community, a group of women stopped her. They all lived in the community.
It hadn’t been long since Jessica moved in, so there were never any issues between her and others.
Jessica was confused, worried something had happened.
She frowned and asked, “What are you doing?”
“Is your daughter really pregnant before she is married? Isn’t she carrying a bastard?” the woman in front of her, the chubby
middle-aged woman who lived next door to Jessica’s house, asked.”
“Your daughter looked like a good girl. And now we learn that she’s a bitch. You told me last time we spoke your daughter is only
eighteen years old, right?” the fat woman continued, putting her hands on her waist and shouting.
Jessica was so angry and annoyed her voice trembled. “You, you are talking nothing but nonsense. Who told you that?”
“Do you dare say that your daughter is not pregnant at all?”
Jessica’s hands trembled. She didn’t dare to say anything back because her daughter was indeed pregnant.
“Shameless bitch!”

“Yes, your daughter hooked up with a man at a young age. She seemed like an innocent little girl, but she turns out to be a slut!”
“Yes, she pretends to be innocent, but secretly she is indeed a slut—”
“Shut up! Who gave you the right to say that?” Jessica was so angry her face twisted in anger.
“Don’t blame those who want to talk about your slut of a daughter like she didn’t bring it upon herself!”
Jessica’s heart raced in anger, beating so fast she had to put her hand on her chest to calm herself. She stood up straighter and
sternly defended her daughter. “My daughter isn’t the kind of person you believe her to be!”
Jessica felt it would tear apart her heart hearing the women trash-talking about her daughter. Why were they slandering her
daughter so much?
“No? Then how did she become pregnant when she’s only eighteen years old?”
Jessica was suddenly speechless. After all, it was true Dolores was pregnant. Jessica knew people would judge Dolores after
discovering she got pregnant at such a young age, but she hadn’t expected people to trash talk so freely.
“Go away!” Jessica pushed them away and hurried into the building.
Although Jessica was very annoyed by what they said, she remembered her daughter was still in the hospital, calmed herself
down, and started cooking.
*****
Jessica thought she’d hidden her feelings very well, but Dolores still noticed something off when Jessica delivered the food.
“Mom, you look...”
“I’m fine,” Jessica lied, not wanting Dolores to know what she’d heard earlier.
Dolores stared at Jessica. She knew Jessica was trying to hide something, because every time Jessica lied, she always refused
to make eye contact. So Dolores was sure Jessica was lying. But Dolores said nothing. Instead, she took the cookies from
Jessica.
The cookies were supposed to be sweet, but somehow Dolores couldn’t but feel bitter eating them.

She lowered her eyes, “Mom, I can be discharged from the hospital tomorrow, and I want to go home to stay with you for a few
days.”
Dolores thought that Jessica seemed upset because her mom missed Dolores’ younger brother. Her brother’s death was always
a pain in Jessica’s heart.
Jessica was startled and resolutely said. “No.”
Jessica knew how sad Dolores would be if she heard what people said today.
Dolores frowned. “Mom—”
“Listen to me,” Jessica said, trying to sound serious. “No matter the reason for the marriage, you’ve married into the Nelson
family now and you should live with your husband.”
Jessica's reaction was so abnormal it was impossible to not notice.
Dolores said nothing anymore. She kept stuffing the food into her mouth for the sake of her baby. She couldn’t really enjoy the
food, however, and Jessica headed to the waiting room soon after, wanting Dolores to get some rest.
Dolores tried to fall asleep, wanting the best for her baby. She tossed and turned until finally slipping into a restless sleep around
dawn. Her sleep didn’t last though and she woke up not long after falling asleep.
Once Sampson arrived, Jessica took the chance to go back home and cook more food for Dolores.
When Jessica walked out of the ward, Dolores got out of bed. Sampson immediately rushed over to help her.
Dolores raised her head to look at Sampson. “I think my mother is hiding something from me.”
“What is it?” Sampson asked.
“I don't know, so I want to figure it out.” She hesitated. “Could you do me a favor?”
“Sure.”
“I want to follow my mom home.”

Dolores wanted to figure out why Jessica didn’t want her to live at home. In the past, Jessica wanted Dolores to come back and
stay with her so badly. However, when Dolores mentioned it the day before, Jessica’s reaction was weird. Jessica was the only
family she had now and Dolores didn’t want Jessica to suffer secretly.
Sampson checked with the doctor before letting Dolores leave. Everything was fine and Jessica went back home as usual.
Dolores followed her closely, making sure Jessica didn’t see her.
*****
When Dolores walked out of the elevator at their apartment, the first thing she saw were all the different swear words on the wall
next their door, such as “shameless bitch” and “unmarried pregnancy” which were written in paint. Jessica stood in the hall
trembling in anger while staring at front of the door. After a few seconds, Jessica fell in front of Dolores.
“Mom!”
Sampson ran forward and caught Jessica before she hit the floor.
“We need to get her to the hospital.”
It was obvious that Jessica passed out because of what they wrote on the wall. Dolores choked up and nodded.
Since Jeremy passed away, and Jessica was seriously injured in the car accident, her health condition hadn’t been the best.
Seeing what they wrote on the wall, of course Jessica would get angry. Dolores was extremely worried about her.
Seeing Jessica was sent to the emergency room, Dolores stood in the doorway panicking. She felt she would really die if
something bad should happen to Jessica.
Sampson rushed over and hugged Dolores’ shoulders to comfort her “Don’t worry too much.”
When Matthew returned home and found Dolores hadn’t returned, he realized she was in the hospital. So he drove over
immediately. Maybe it was because he knew Dolores had an unfortunate past, or because she was his wife, but Matthew felt a
little compassionate towards her.
Matthew didn’t find Dolores in the ward, but as he was about to leave, he saw her and Sampson hugging in the hall. Matthew
filled with rage.
