Chapter 20 Let Me Die
Layla breathed a sigh of relief. She closed the door backhand and turned on the light, only to see the mess everywhere. She closed her eyes for a moment and then walked past the clutter to Zachary.
Only then did she see Zachary sitting on a somewhat faded old stool with a gloomy and terrifying expression.
After Layla came in, Zachary pressed the lighter and did nothing else.
The light from the lighter was insignificant compared to the light from the incandescent lamp.
But in Zachary’s eyes, there seemed to be only that flame.
“Zachary.” Seeing Zachary like this, Layla was somewhat at a loss. “You…”
Zachary looked up at her suddenly. Layla took a step back in fright.
But Zachary stood up, approached Layla, and asked forcefully, “Layla, what did you promise me?”
Facing Zachary’s questioning, Layla lowered her head and whispered, “I’m sorry.”
“Sorry? Who are you sorry for?”
“Since you know you are sorry for me, Dad, and Mom, why did you still do this?”
“I…”
Layla couldn’t answer Zachary’s question.
Zachary’s eyes fell on her wrinkled clothes and turned cold. “Layla, the one you are the sorries for is yourself! Layla, why are you so shameless? As teachers, Dad and Mom have been upright throughout their lives. How could they have a daughter like you? How could I have such a shameless sister like you? You can’t live without him, can you? There are so many men in the world. You only want that old man, don’t you?”
Zachary’s every word was like a needle piercing into her heart. Every word brought pain.
Layla clenched her fingers tightly and remained silent.
Because of her silence, Zachary was even more annoyed.
He tried his best to suppress the anger filling his heart and soften his tone. “Layla, I can stop pursuing the past. I just want you to leave him and stay away from him from today onwards. I promise you I will make every effort to become what you want. I will study hard, get into a good university, and work hard after graduation. Okay?”
As Layla heard this, tears flickered in her eyes.
Under Zachary’s expectant gaze, she gave the answer he least wanted to hear.
A slap fell on Layla’s face. Half of her face suddenly swelled, and Layla staggered back two steps before she could just keep her balance.
“Layla, why are you so shameless?! Why are you so dissolute? You really disgust me! If I had known you would turn out like this, it would have been better to let me die in that car accident. In this way, I won’t have to witness your shameless demeanor
now!”
After Zachary finished speaking, he slammed the door and left.
“Zachary!”
The door was closed with a bang. Layla’s heart throbbed with pain, making it difficult for her to breathe.
The next moment, she squatted on the ground weakly, clutching her chest tightly with her hands. With a deathly pale face, she inhaled and exhaled heavily, trying to get air into her lungs.
After repeating this for five minutes, she calmed down and regained her senses.
Her face was burning with pain, and her body was also sore.
But the pain in her body and her face was less than one ten–thousandth of the pain in her heart.
In the eyes of Zachary, Layla had now been completely reduced to a dissolute and shameless woman.
Zachary forced her to leave Wesley. She also wanted to.
Layla also wanted to leave Wesley and get away from him, but
she was already deeply involved. She had messed with him, and there was no way out of it.
