Benson

Chapter Benson 46

Chapter 46 The Forbidden Call

Yvonne’s face was bruised and battered from an unexpected blow, making it clear that she shouldn’t be seen at the company.

She delegated some urgent tasks to Megan and decided to rest at home.

This was her second night avoiding the outside world, and Benson still hadn’t come home. Maria, the ever–concerned housekeeper, worried that Yvonne might feel sad because of this, tried to comfort her. “Sir is busy with his career, and men are always immersed in that, and it is not good..”

Her tone carried an understanding of the male world, trying to soothe Yvonne’s emotions. Yvonne only gave a soft “hmm,” her eyes never leaving the book in her hands.

Whether Benson returned or not was no longer important to her. It seemed her heart had grown accustomed to this loneliness and coldness.

On the fourth day, the bruises on Yvonne’s face had mostly healed, and she returned to work.

However, Benson still hadn’t come back or called.

Yvonne didn’t reach out to him either. Aside from that intense conflict that night, their relationship had reverted to its usual cold and indifferent state.

Such days were utterly meaningless to Yvonne.

She recalled the past three years, realizing how foolish it was to be filled with hope and expectation.

She once thought marriage would be a ray of light in her life, illuminating her path forward. But the reality was that this light had long since extinguished, leaving only endless darkness and cold.

When Yvonne arrived at the company, just as she was about to get out of the car, her eyes were drawn to a figure at the building’s entrance.

It was Zoe, standing there, clearly waiting for Yvonne..

A wave of displeasure surged in Yvonne’s heart she didn’t want any interaction with Zoe at this moment..

Yyonne frowned slightly, Zog’s figure standing out sharply in the morning sunlight, like an unavoidable stumbling block.

Yvonne didn’t stop walking but turned to quietly instruct the driver to take the car directly to the underground parking lot.

Zoe stood there, anxiously awaiting Yvonne’s arrival.

Het mood was like a desert scorched by the scorching sun, parched and restless.

She had thought Anthony’s confession would settle everything. Even Yvonne had suspicions, without concrete evidence, she wouldn’t be able to take any action against her.

After all, as part of the supply chain, Yvonne’s company still relied on top–tier distributors like hers to sell products.

However, the development of events took Zoe by surprise.

Yvonne not only avoided confronting her directly but also took more decisive action- cutting off all cooperation with her.

This sudden change left Zoe feeling unprecedented panic and helplessness.

Zoe felt unwilling to accept this. She knew that at this critical moment, giving up could mean total defeat.

She decided to seek Paul’s help, hoping this influential figure within the company could speak on her behalf to Yvonne.

Paul, though not the top talent in the company, was known for his loyalty to Yvonne.

He followed Yvonne’s every command as if they were divine, never questioning or disobeying them.

When Zoe found him, filled with expectation and anxiety, she explained her predicament and pleaded for him to mediate. Paul’s expression showed some difficulty.

He knew Yvonne’s decision–making stylet once she made up her mind, there was almost no room for negotiation.

In response to Zoe’s plea, Paul simply said, “Zoe, I understand your situation, but I must tell you, Yvonne’s decisions are always well–considered.

Although I can help you, in this case, I’m afraid I can’t do anything.”

After saying this, Paul gave Zoe no further chance to express her thoughts and left quickly.

His hurried departure seemed like an attempt to avoid this tricky issue.

Zoe stood there, her anxiety spreading like wildfire.

Her business model involved taking orders before shipping, which provided a stable cash flow under normal circumstances. But any disruption in the supply chain could lead to disastrous consequences.

Now, orders were piling up, and customers‘ anxious demands were crashing over her like waves, battering her mental defenses.

She could clearly feel the dissatisfaction and urgency of

and message.

were like a relentless

In the depths of despair, Zoe’s fingers trembled as she dialed a number she shouldn’t have contacted

The voice on the other end sounded displeased and cautious sdn’t I tell you not to call me? You know the risks of doing this”

Zoe’s voice cared a hint of plea and helplessness weak yet determined: “I know, I

shouldn disturb you, but the situation is beyond my control now. I’m risking this for your sake You can’t just leave me in the lurch

I don’t ask for much just let me meet with Yvonne. I have a way to convince her to reconsider our cooperation.”

The other end fell silent, as if weighing the pros and cons

Zoe’s heart raced. She knew this decision was crucial, possibly determining the survival of her career.

She held her breath waiting for a response.

Finally, the voice on the other end spoke, with a barely detectable hesitation: Tll think about it. Wait for my call.”

Zoe hung up, her anxiety unabated.

She knew she was on the edge of a cliff, and Yvonne’s attitude would decide if she landed safely.

All she could do was wait for the mysterious person’s call, hoping for a chance to turn things around

Yvonne stepped into her office, her mind still preoccupied with unresolved business

matters

Despite her efforts to keep things organized, some thomy issues persisted like stubborn weeds, hard to eradicate.

One such issue was the project involving Maria as a spokesperson. Various delays had caused dissatisfaction and murmurs among senior staff.

As she sat at her desk, deep in thought about how to resolve this, Megan knocked and entered, looking serious.

“Zoe is inviting you to a banquet. You must attend this time,” Megan’s tone was firm, leaving no room for doubt.

Yvonne looked up, puzzled: “This time… whose favor do I owe?”

“Your brother,” Megan’s answer startled Yvonne.

“My brother?” Yvonne was taken aback, recalling the long–absent figure. “I do have a brother, but he…”

“God… brother,” Megan clarified.

Yvonne’s

frown deepened as she realized Megan’s implication: “Benson?”

Zoe has such strong connections, huh? With Benson on her side?

Yvonne couldn’t help but scoff internally. She knew Benson well enough to understand this banquet was more than a social event. Zoe was trying to leverage Benson’s influence to pressure her.

“I’m not going,” Yvonne’s response was firm and resolute.

Giving face to Benson? Let whoever wants to give it. She certainly wouldn’t!
