Chapter Chapter Six
“Get up! Serena! Up now missy!” I’m shaken awake in my bed as I peer out from my covers I notice Carla smirking at me.
“Go away” I groan.
“No. I’m not letting you wallow in self-pity anymore. You are getting up; you are getting on with your day and helping out downstairs. Forget about your alpha duties for a moment and just be you” She orders whipping the covers from me as I growl at her.
“One day, just give me one day to myself!” I groan.
“No, you’ve had three months away from the pack, that’s enough! I know you, Serena, you will hide in a hole and make yourself worse. You need to get on with your life. Craig is alive, yes not the best way ever but he’s alive. You have a pack that adores you and wants to be led to victory. You have a family that loves you and then you have me” She grins pointing at herself.
“Oh great, you” I roll my eyes playfully as she shoves me.
“Hey! You love me!” She laughs.
“Good thing too or you’d be on your ass” I smirk.
“As if Daniel would let you do that” She smirks as I see her new mate mark.
“You did it!” I squeal.
“We did” Daniel smirks from the doorway as he looks like he wants to devour Carla.
“I’m surprised you two can even stand being that far apart” I smirk.
“Trust me, it’s a struggle” Daniel laughs.
“Why are you bugging me when you have a mate to be with for the week?!” I laugh at Carla who is blushing.
“We can’t just ignore life to mate all week” Carla rolls her eyes.
“Don’t roll your eyes at me. Of course you can.” I answer.
“See I told you she would agree” Daniel smirks victoriously.
“Don’t start” She laughs as he nuzzles into her neck.
“Out! That’s not happening in my room! Don’t start or you won’t stop!” I point to the door, but it seems it’s too late as Daniel kisses her neck as she moans.
“Daniel” Carla moans.
“Nope! OUT!” I shout.
“Excuse us” Daniel lifts her and takes her into my bathroom.
“NO!” I groan as I hear them moaning.
I get dressed quickly, luckily I had showered the night before so I could rush out the flat as they mated in my bathroom. They would be cleaning it for sure!
“Good morning Serena, I see Carla and Daniel managed to get you out of bed” Pauline smiles at me.
“Yes and now they occupy my bathroom” I groan.
“Oh the mating ritual…” She laughs.
“There’s my helper. Do you need breakfast still?” Tony asks as he leans on my shoulder.
“Yes, I could definitely do with some food right now,” I said as my stomach rumbled in agreement.
“Have you spoken to Craig or Alex yet?” Tony asks.
“Not even a little” I shake my head.
“Why? You need to get on and they are both in your life Serena. You don’t even know what Alex wanted!” Tony exclaims.
“I know exactly what he wants” I mumble, hoping he didn’t hear me.
“Hold on…You know…You told me you had no idea!” He puts his hands on his hips.
“I…Uh…” I mumble.
“Serena Baldo! Spill!” He urges as I stand beside him in the kitchen as he cooks.
“I think I have another mate…” I murmur as pots clang to the floor as Tony stands looking at me in shock.
“You WHAT?!” He shouts.
“Why are you shouting?” Pauline asks curiously through the doorway.
“Who?” Tony asks.
“It doesn’t matter Tony, I’m not ready to even see if I’m right” I sigh.
“Hand” Pauline orders.
“Pauline, no, please, just leave it be” I groan as she shakes her head taking my hand as her eyes go white.
“Oh my,” She says.
“I can’t wait until you turn and then you can’t do that anymore” I sigh.
“You have to see if it’s true! He’d make a powerful mate!” Pauline smirks.
“No, not happening!” I answer.
“Who?!” Tony repeats looking at Pauline.
“Not my place to tell” She smirks, winking at me.
“For god sake, I hate women” He grumbles and goes back to cooking, clanging away at the pots and pans like a child having a tantrum.
“Are you seriously going to act like a five-year-old because I won’t tell you?” I giggle.
“Yes” He nods, and I burst into laughter.
“Alex…” I murmur as he drops the frying pan he was holding.
“You have to be joking…” He says wide-eyed.
“I wish I was. I got this weird shock feeling when I touched him. But it just all feels so weird, what with what happened with Craig, I feel like it would be like cheating, I love Craig, I always will and yet he’s not mine anymore, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care for him” I sigh.
“Oh kid, I wish I could give you the perfect advice, but I can’t. All I can say is you need to talk to them. Clear the air with Craig and talk to Alex at least”
“I know I need to, but I just can’t bring myself to do it.”
I was struggling with understanding how I felt about all this. My head and heart were so confused, I was so happy Craig was alive but him not being my mate anymore and not having a single memory of me hurt me badly, especially mixing in the fact I sacrificed our child to save him, I felt a huge amount of guilt. Had I made the right decision? Would Craig have agreed with me or would he be disappointed in me? My Craig was gone and now he would end up with a new mate and so would I, but it just didn’t feel right.
Alex, however, I barely knew a thing about him, I knew how strong he was, he was born a rogue which seemed to be why he was so much more resistant to being submissive to an alpha. He was a fighter though, his strength was phenomenal, he was tactical when it came to battle and was a great teacher. He was older than me, being six years older than me at twenty-five I wondered if he would see me as anything other than a child, I was just nineteen still. I knew that a lot of people had much larger age gaps, but it still worried me.
“Get out of that head of yours Serena, here eat and then you can come help me in here. Get your mind off the world before you burst” Tony passes a plate of food to me, filled with lots of meat as I groaned happily.
“Thank you” I smile gratefully as I take my plate and sit at the counter at in the kitchen, just out of his way.
“Why are you hiding in here?” Carla raises a brow as she and Daniel finally come downstairs.
“I hope you’ve cleaned my bathroom after your mating session,” I say sternly.
“Of course we did” Carla sniggers as I roll my eyes.
“Carla can you take table eight for me please?!” Vance calls as she groans, kissing Daniel before getting to work.
“How are you doing Serena?” Daniel asks, looking at me intensely. Tony sniggers as I smack his shoulder on the way to the sink to wash up the dishes.
“Confused, hurt, happy, sad, pained, angry, name an emotion and it’s probably in there somewhere” I shrug.
“I get that, I do. But the pack need you back, they need their alpha, not the beta’s” He says.
“I know they do, and I will come back” I reply.
“How about a pack run tonight then?” He suggests.
“I…I don’t know Daniel” I sigh.
“Serena, just rip off the band-aid and move on,” Tony says.
“I’m going to rip something, and it won’t be a fucking band-aid” I grumble under my breath.
“Definitely needs a good run” Tony smirks as I stick up my middle finger at him.
“That’s quite enough young lady” My mother walks into the kitchen as I grimace, I might be nineteen, but she was still my mother and she hated me swearing.
“Sorry mum,” I say as Daniel sniggers from the doorway as I lob a spoon towards him as he bursts into laughter at me.
“Would you mind not attacking my mate?” Carla raises a brow.
“It was a spoon, Carla, I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t have hurt him” I roll my eyes.
“Serena” A voice calls out, a voice I was all too familiar with.
“Cr…Craig” I stammer.
“Can we talk? Please?” He asks.
“Ok” I sigh as Tony pats my shoulder as I walk past, we both head upstairs as I rub my hands together nervously.
“The others told me everything…How are you, Serena? That couldn’t have been easy to go through. My death, the baby, everything” He sighs sitting beside me.
“It wasn’t easy, still isn’t. Nothing feels right” I sigh trying not to let the tears flow.
“I’m sorry,” He says as I look him in the eyes.
“Why are you sorry? This isn’t your fault”
“I died and left you alone, I can’t remember anything about us, and I hate that. People tell me that we were so good together and yet I don’t remember a fucking thing. We were mated, Serena! That’s huge!” He growls in frustration.
“None of that was your fault Craig, none of it. Sebastian killed you, the witches brought you back and did so in a way that destroyed everything we held dear, but we also have to think that you are alive again Craig, not everyone gets a second chance!” I exclaim, taking his hands in mine. It didn’t feel like before, it felt as if I was just holding the hand of a friend.
“You don’t hate me for it?” He says as I look at him wide-eyed.
“Why would I hate YOU for it? You never asked for this. You got no choice in the matter. Craig, I love you and I will never hate you for this. I wish we could be everything we were before, happy, in love and mated but your second chance came at a price which we weren’t privy to. But we do have to realise that you got this second chance, you get to love again, live your life. You’re here and I will always be there for you, even if we aren’t mated and you don’t remember a single thing of me, I am here for you” I say as a tear escapes my eye. His hand reaches out and he wipes it from my cheek.
“I don’t blame you for it either Serena, Daniel told me you second guess your decision. You did what you felt was right, YOU helped me come back and I will be forever grateful. I don’t remember you, but I look forward to getting to know you again, even if we aren’t mated, we can at least be friends right?” He says as I look into his gorgeous green eyes.
“Of course we can. I don’t think I would be able to live a life without you in it. Not after everything that’s happened” I smile as he wipes tears from my face once more.
“Great, but seriously Serena don’t push away people because of what happened with us, if you find you have a new mate, that’s fantastic, the goddess must know what she’s doing right? She’s the one that chooses our mates, so it must be fate” He says.
“I guess” I sigh.
“You’ll be happy again, you will and I’m here for you if you need me. No matter what we are.” He says kissing my forehead as my eyes close at his touch.
“I should go” he adds.
“Thank you, Craig, for this talk. I should have done it sooner” I sigh.
“No, you needed time to breathe. I understand, we’re ok. See you soon” He smiles as he walks out of the flat.
“Bye,” I murmur as I close the door, leaning against it as I slide down to the floor.
