Becoming the Alpha (Amethyst Pack BK2)

“I hate magic wielders” David mumbles beneath his breath.

“That’s Pauline’s coven, I thought you liked Pauline” I raised a brow.

“Yes, she’s fine but the rest of them creep me out” He replies as Daniel sniggers.

“Alpha Serena, my apologies for your loss” The head of the coven, Lucinda held out a hand as we shook in greeting.

“Thank you, but may I ask why your coven is here?” I ask.

“Pauline asked us to come, said it was of grave importance” She answers.

“Lucinda! Thank the heavens you came” Tony flits in with Pauline on his back as Vance bounds behind them in wolf form.

“Pauline, what on earth is going on?” Mum asks.

“I need to see Craig’s body!” She says jumping off Tony’s back as I frown, taking her arm, growling.

“Why?” I growl.

“He may not be dead,” Pauline says as my mouth gapes and I let go of her as she and her coven walk off quickly.

“Did she just say…” Carla started.

“I watched Sebastian snap his neck, I felt the link snap, he’s dead…” I murmur.

“Your mark isn’t gone though” He points to my neck as my fingers glide over it as my eyes dart to his where he shows the faint scars where he once had a mating mark.

I run into the house finding the witches surrounding his body, hands linked as they chanted some gibberish spell.

“Alpha” Oliver groans as he limps to my side.

“Oliver!” I hug him but my eyes stay on Craig and the witches.

“Serena! We need you!” Pauline shouts as I’m pulled to their sides.

“We can get him back, but it will take a great sacrifice,” Lucinda says, her eyes pure white.

“What sort of sacrifice?” I ask.

“A life…One important to you, our powers come from a divinity and in order for us to undo what they did to him, we need to give an equal sacrifice. They tied his mind to the limbo between our world and the goddess. We can heal his neck and bring him home” Pauline looks at me and then my stomach.

“Pauline…Why are you looking at me like that?” I murmur.

“You are pregnant, I can feel it, a normal human would be weeks along where you are merely a couple of days. Wolves develop a child faster. If you wish to have him back, you must sacrifice your first-born heir…I’m sorry Serena” She murmurs.

I stood in shock, my hands on my stomach as I looked at Craig’s still body, could I sacrifice my baby for his life…

“Serena don’t do this he wouldn’t want you to throw away your unborn child’s life for him!” Oliver shouts at me from the doorway.

“WHAT?!” The twins shout as they come through the door.

“We need to do this now or we’ll lose him!” Lucinda cries out.

“Decide!” Another witch cries out.

“Do it!” I cry out as Pauline nods, a hand pressed on my stomach as tears fall from my eyes.

“NO!” The guys in the doorway shouting, but it was too late, I had made my decision. I could make another baby I couldn’t find another Craig…I would mourn the child, but I couldn’t live without him.

A huge gasp came from Craig’s lips as we watched on, Pauline held me back for a moment as they continued their spell, I could see the rise and fall of his chest, he was alive!

Pain enveloped my whole body as I fell to the ground, my stomach in agony and my collar searing as I noticed my mating mark disappear.

“Serena!” The boys come to my side quickly.

“It is done,” Lucinda says as they all unlink their hands.

“My mark is gone, what did you do?” I cry.

“I’m afraid we needed a larger sacrifice you are no longer mated. I’m sorry” Lucinda says as she and her witches leave the room.

I let out a howl of pain as my anger swirled in my heart as I looked towards Pauline.

“You took my child as a sacrifice! You never said I would lose him as my mate too! He will come back, and he won’t love me!” I shout angrily.

“I’m sorry, I had no idea! Lucinda was doing it not me!” She cries.

“Uggh, keep the noise down would you” Craig groans as I look up at him in shock.

“Craig!” The twins call out as they go to their best friend, hugging him.

“Why are you hugging me? What happened?” Craig said with a confused look on his face.

“What is the last thing you remember?” Daniel asks as his eyes dart to me as I gulp.

“Did something happen to me? I…Well, the last thing I remember is Lucien calling on us for some mission to find some girl” He says as I gasp. He didn’t remember anything…he wouldn’t remember me…

I stood up quickly as I glared at Pauline.

“Alpha” Oliver murmurs which gets Craig’s attention.

“Sorry, who is that?” He asks the boys.

“Serena…Don’t you remember her?” David answers.

“No…Nothing…Why should I? Don’t tell me we dated…” He gulps.

“Tell him nothing of our relationship” I link to the twins as they look at me in shock.

“But Serena…” Daniel links back.

“Save him the pain. Tell him we were friends, that’s all” I say as they nod solemnly as I storm out the room.

“Serena! I’m sorry!” Pauline follows me outside as I’m fronted by my pack, my father, his pack, and a group of hunters who were all here for Craig’s funeral.

“Shows over! Craig isn’t dead! The witches brought him back!” I shouted but my parents looked at me in shock as my father’s eyes darted to my neck.

“At what cost Serena?” He glares at Pauline.

“Ask HER that” I point to her as Tony walks up to us slowly.

“Pauline, what have you done?” He ask.

“It was at the cost of her unborn child…she was pregnant…But then Lucinda, she had to make a bigger sacrifice, they’ve lost their mating bond and he’s lost his memories from the day he was ordered for a mission by Lucien to find Serena. He has no idea who she is…I’m sorry!” She cries.

I turn to her in anger.

“Serena, let me handle this. Pauline, you are banished from our pack lands. If I see you or your coven on my lands I will have my pack rip them to shreds, do you understand?!” he growls as she backs off in shock.

“Grayson please don’t do this” She cries.

“Leave!” I growl angrily as she whimpers and runs off.

“Everyone is to be on high alert, I want Sebastian and his group found, I will lead this pack to their destruction and will not stop until every single one of them are dead, the ground saturated in their blood!” I shout before leading in a pack howl.

“Serena…” Carla murmurs as she hugs me tightly.

“Be with your mate Carla, enjoy him, love him while you have him. Never let him go” I squeeze her hand as she nods before I walk off, ignoring everyone as I walk into the forest.
