Chapter Chapter Eighteen
“What was that?” Carla whimpers behind me.
“DAD! Did you hear that?” I ask.
“I did. Get the pack inside now!” He growls as we both howl in warning as the packs begin to move quickly inside their homes.
Something whizzes past my ear as it clips it, making me hiss as I look to the ground.
“Silver…RUN!” I order Carla and Daniel as they race off, silver bullets were flying everywhere as Carla stumbled, I nudged up back up and stayed behind her making sure she got to safety as another bullet flew towards me, clipping me in the shoulder as I yelp out in pain but keep going.
“Serena!” Carla cries.
“Keep running!” I growl as she bolts off and manages to get to the house.
I snarl turning as I see the packs made it inside, hearing the rumble of a motorbike on the border as it darts through and into our territory, stopping as he revs the bike as I notice it’s Christopher.
“Serena! He’s testing your fear, let me ride you, we do this together,” Calvin says as I nod, he climbs up but not before he pulls the silver from my shoulder with a yelp.
“We want the boy back, Lucinda calls for Craig,” Christopher calls out.
“He doesn’t get near the house, protect Craig!” I growl in order as the pack surrounds the house.
“Traitor, the boy goes nowhere with you!” Calvin shouts back.
“Let me have him or we will be forced to come get him by force!” Christopher says angrily.
I growl, readying myself to run at him as Calvin seems to notice, holding tighter to my fur.
“I’m ready when you are,” He whispers to me as I nod, bolting towards Christopher as he revs his engine, aiming his gun at me as I dodge the bullets, zig-zagging them as Calvin shoots back.
Christopher begins to drive around the field as we take chase, snapping at his wheels I nearly get him several times before he twists the bikes, stabbing a silver blade into my shoulder as I tumble slightly, Calvin yanking the blade out so I can keep going.
“He’s heading for the house!” Calvin shouts.
“Warriors be ready!” I link to the pack as they begin to run out the house, shifting, snarling at the oncoming bike.
Christopher sees the wolves before turning the bike sharply, turning back to us as I leap at him as he comes straight towards us, biting his shoulder as I throw him off the bike, but it throws Calvin too as he grunts in pain on the ground.
“Get Calvin out of here!” I order as Eric, Yasmin, Luis and Geoff save him from the ground as I tear at Christopher as he keeps stabbing at me, the silver biting into me.
“That’s my best friend!” Carla runs into us as she bites at him too, but he’s a hybrid, he’s harder to take down and I am weakened by his silver.
His gun goes off and Carla drops to the ground.
“Carla!” I cry as my rage builds and I pounce onto him, snapping my teeth at him as I claw away his gun, tearing his arm to shreds as he screams in agony.
I shift grabbing his own gun and aim it at his head.
“You made the wrong choice abandoning your people,” I growl as I shoot, and his head explodes from the bullets he had loaded.
“Serena…” Carla gasps on the ground as she shifts, holding her stomach as she bleeds on the ground.
“Hold on Carla, hold on,” I press on her wound as I howl for help.
I ignore the pain running through me, silver running through my veins as she gasps out in pain.
“No, no, no, not my baby!” Olivia cries out as Wren rushes her to us.
“Alpha, we’ve got her,” Wren says taking over as I back off, watching as my best friend is bleeding all over the ground.
“Serena, we need to get her inside, will you have her on your back so I can take Olivia?” Wren asks as I nod.
I shift quickly as they place her on my back as I race towards the house.
“Carla!” Daniel rushes out as he grabs her off of me and races inside with the others as I shift again, falling to my knees.
“Alpha!” Liv races to my side as she and David help me inside.
“Triple the patrol!” Dad growls out as some of his pack rush outside.
“I have men heading here now, we need more people here, the day of battle is coming quicker than I anticipated,” Calvin says.
“Oh my! Serena!” Mum squeaks out as she sees me being brought in.
“Why have you always got to get hurt?!” Lucien growls as he takes me from them, placing me on a chair as he lifts my top, blood seeping from the silver infused wounds.
“Stop fussing with me! Go make sure Carla is ok!” I growl slapping his hand away.
“There are already too many people in that room with her, we need to get that wound sorted out,” Calvin says as Pauline flits to my side.
“Rub this in the wounds,” She says passing Lucien a bottle before she flits off again.
“That’s never not going to be weird,” Lucien grumbles as he opens the bottle, my mum passes him a cloth as he soaks it, pressing it against my wounds through the rip in my dress as I growl loudly at the pain.
“I take it that Christopher is dead?” Calvin says as I see him sipping from a small vial.
“He is…Is that blood?” I ask.
“Yes, just enough to help heal me quicker,” He nods.
I felt a sudden stab in my chest as I could feel every bit of pain Carla was feeling.
“Carla, I have to get to her,” I growl as I stand but Lucien pushes me back down.
“I’ll check on her, you stay put,” Liv says.
“We need to do this to all your wounds, Serena, I can smell the blood on your thigh…I…Uh…” Lucien murmurs.
“Oh for god sake, give me that,” Mum snatches it from him as she quickly presses it against the cut on my thigh which wasn’t even that high, it was just above my knee. Lucien scratches his neck nervously and leaves the room as I laugh.
“He’s been unmated too long,” Dad grumbles causing me to laugh louder.
The pain was beginning to die down from Carla as she must be healing, causing me to calm down.
“Craig…” David says as my eyes dart to the lounge doorway as Craig walks past, almost zombie-like.
“Stop him!” I shout as David grabs him as Craig tries to resist.
“Silas!” David shouts as Silas comes running.
“She’s too powerful! She woke him up! I don’t know how, one moment he was there, the next he was gone,” He says as he clicks his fingers and Craig sags in David’s arms.
“Shit…Lock him up…We don’t have a choice,” I say.
“I’m sorry buddy,” David murmurs as he nods in agreement and follows Silas to lock him up downstairs.
“How did she get through Pauline’s spells?” I ask.
“He left the border, she must be inside his mind still,” Dad murmurs pacing.
“This house is no longer safe, we need to move the packs, Grayson,” Calvin says.
“And go where?” I ask.
“Either to another pack to strengthen numbers or to my headquarters where we have weapons and my team can help better,” Calvin says.
“How do you suppose we get there safely? It seems like we’re being watched,” Mum says dabbing and my wounds again, making me hiss in pain.
“I have armoured vehicles which I can have a team ride in, we won’t be able to do everyone at the same time though…” Calvin sighs.
“If we do it quick enough they may not notice, Pauline may be able to help cover us,” Dad says.
“You’re actually considering this… What happens when one of the trucks is attacked?” I ask.
“What else would you have me do Serena?” Dad growls.
“I don’t know! This whole thing is a fucking shit-show. Can’t get a break from this crap!” I growl standing as I leave the room.
“Leave her be Grayson, let her calm down, it’s been quite the night,” I hear my mum say as I storm out the room.
“Alpha…” I’m stopped by Oliver who is looking at me with so much sorrow.
“Pauline sorted your mind?” I ask.
“Yes, I’m so sorry, I hate everything they made me do, I would never do that to you,” Oliver steps forward, moving a lock of hair from my face.
“It…It’s fine, I get it, I was there myself,” I stammer.
“Serena…I…Fuck it…” He says before he grabs me, pulling me closer, kissing me hard as I stand in shock.
“What the fuck Oliver?” I shake my head from its stupor.
“You don’t feel that? Our connection?” Oliver caresses my face but I slap it away.
“No, I don’t,” I answer him.
“I…Uh…Shit…I’m sorry Serena, I’ll just…I’ll just go…Please forget everything that just happened,” He says before running off.
“What the fuck just happened?” I say out loud.
“A case of falling for my alpha by the looks of it,” Lucien raises a brow as I notice him leaning against the wall.
“How much of that did you witness?” I groan.
“Every cringe-worthy second,” He laughs.
“Have you gotten over your hissy fit over a thigh?” I smirk as his smile drops.
“Don’t start. I’ve watched you grow up and now you are a very pretty young lady, forgive me if I didn’t want to be intrusive cupcake,” He says.
“Don’t tell me you want to kiss me too?” I raise a brow mockingly.
“For god sake Serena, just, go to bed,” He says.
“Fine, good night Lucien…Wait…You never answered the question…” I say as I see him gulp.
“I am twenty years older than you Serena, it is not appropriate and your father would kill me. Now go to bed,” He orders.
“Well…That makes me calling you Uncle a little awkward…” I murmur.
“Yeah…I never liked that, to begin with,” He sighs.
“Serena?” Olivia walks down the corridor as I spin on the spot.
“How is Carla?” I ask as I hear footsteps behind me as Lucien walks off muttering to himself.
“She’s ok, she’s healing nicely, she’s lucky, most of the bullet seemed to miss every vital organ, she’s sleeping now with Daniel by her side.” She smiles.
“Thank the goddess,” I sigh in relief.
“Do you need me to check you over Serena?” She asks.
“No, I’m ok, healing already, Lucien and Mum helped,” I smile at her as she nods.
“Well, it’s getting late, get some sleep Serena,” She kisses my head and heads off.
Could this day get any worse…
I walk to my bedroom as I drop onto my bed groaning.
“Serena?” A voice calls.
“What?” I groan as the door opens.
“Tough night?” Tony sits next to me with a smile.
“Don’t even go there,” I sigh.
“Tell Uncle Tony, I seem to have missed out on most of the fun, been a little busy with Pauline,” He says.
So I tell him everything, and I mean EVERYTHING.
“Well…You’ve had a very eventful day…Not quite sure what to do with the whole Lucien issue…He is twenty years older than you, however, I’m like a hundred and twenty-three, so I can’t talk,” He chuckles.
“I just never saw that coming! He was always my dad’s best friend! He’s my godfather!”
“But there are no mate tingles are there?” Tony asks.
“No, of course not,” I shake my head.
“Then it is probably the lure of an alpha female, which would explain Oliver’s reaction with you. You are unmated, an alpha and beautiful, you’re going to turn heads, especially wolves as they thrive on power and mating.” Tony says.
“But it’s LUCIEN!” I exclaim.
“What’s me?” Lucien walks through the open door as I groan.
“Shall I leave you two to it…Or…” Tony smirks as I throw my pillow at him.
“A lot of help you are,” I growl as he laughs.
“Oh I am sorry your royal highness, enjoy the unmated males,” He sniggers, flitting out the room.
“Should I ask what that was about?” Lucien frowns.
“Just talking about the lure of an alpha female and what it does to unmated males,” I raise a brow at him.
“Serena, listen…” he says coming closer, grabbing my hand.
“No, not doing this, not happening,” I say as I snatch my hand back.
“Serena, will you listen to me! I’m not a fucking idiot like Oliver, I’m not going to let the lure get to me. I’m a grown-ass man! I have control. I want you to know I would never force you to do anything like that with me. I want you to trust me as you always have. My feelings will go when my wolf gets a hold of himself. I love you cupcake and I will always be by your side. Never forget that, don’t let this make it awkward,”
“You’re the one making it awkward…” I mumble like a child.
“Real mature Serena…” he rolls his eyes as we both look at each other seriously before bursting out in laughter.
“I love you too Lucien, but don’t go pulling an Oliver on me…EVER…You’re hot but you are way too old,” I smirk.
“OLD! I’m not old! You think I’m hot?” He shoves me playfully, wiggling his eyebrows as I laugh.
“Get out my room old man,” I laugh.
“Fine, goodnight cupcake,” He says kissing me on the forehead sighing.
“Night Lucien,” I smile as he leaves the room.
Lust…Why am I feeling Lust? God damn wolf hormones! Stop! It’s Lucien god damn it! He’s old enough to be my dad… Shit…Dad would kill them he knew how Lucien and Oliver were feeling.
I growl in frustration as my wolf seems agitated.
I get changed for bed as I slip into the covers, hoping that the next day might get a little better than the last few…
But I got hotter…And Hotter…And Hotter.
“God damn it!” I cry out as my skin felt like it was burning. Of course that’s what the lure was…I was going into heat…
