After I Let Go My Alpha He Knelt in Regret

Chapter In Regret Novel 9

Chapter 9

Outside the Pack Council chambers, Thorne and I each held a scroll declaring our mate-bond severed. The ancient runes still smoldered on the parchment, marking the end of our union in pack law. The Moon Goddess's seal pulsed with a dim light, as if even she mourned what had been lost today. "Shall I escort you back to the den?" he asked, as if we were still pack mates rather than strangers, as if he hadn't just chosen another wolf over his true mate.

Storm burst from the shadows, her beta form radiating fury that made the air crackle with tension. "Have you lost your last shred of honor, Alpha? Your Luna is still weak from silver poisoning, yet you drag her out to break your bond? So eager to run with your dying Arctic wolf that you'd risk your true mate's life? May the Moon Goddess strike you both down for this betrayal!"

Thorne's Alpha presence darkened the air, his power pressing down like a physical weight. "Mind your tongue, Storm. Say what you will of me - for my Luna's sake, I'll bear it. But speak not of Silvana. She's pure of heart."

"Pure?" Storm snarled, her fangs glinting. "Pure enough to steal another wolf's mate? To lure an Alpha from his Luna's bed? You speak of her purity while your mate's blood still stains the hospital 'sheets from the pup you forced her to lose!"

"You dare?" Thorne's eyes blazed Alpha-gold, the ground trembling beneath his rage. "You forget your place, beta. One more word about Silvana, and I'll make sure every pack knows how the mighty SilverFang line produces nothing but insolent pups who can't control their tongues."

Storm's claws extended, her voice dripping with venom. "Better an honest beta than an Alpha who abandons his mate and murders his own pup for a dying wolf's whim. Does she warm your bed well enough to justify such betrayal?"

Thorne's eyes blazed Alpha-gold, his voice dropping to a deadly growl that made the ancient stones: around us shudder. "And one more word, your pack can forget about our artifact trade. Let's see how the other packs value your minerals without my craft to enhance them. How many moons before the Northern packs start circling your territories, I wonder?"

"You worthless, oath-breaking-!"

fgripped Storm's arm, feeling her trembling with rage beneath my touch. Her loyalty to me had always been fierce, unwavering since we were pups. "Let it go," I whispered. "It's not worth it."

The SilverFang Pack - Storm's bloodline - held vast deposits of sacred minerals in their territory,

resources that could be transformed into powerful artifacts. But only Thorne possessed this rare gift of crafting, making their partnership invaluable. Their combined strengths had created something either pack could achieve alone.

I wouldn't let Storm jeopardize this crucial alliance for my sake. No matter how deep her loyalty to me ran, the welfare of two entire packs couldn't be risked over my broken mate-bond. Though my heart swelled at her willingness to defend me, some prices were too high to pay.
