A Journey from Bitterness to Truth ( Matilda and Yvan )

Chapter 80

Chapter 80

Hearing the word “pitiful” spill from Matilda’s lips was like a slap to Yvan’s pride. He stepped forward, only to be met with her retreating two steps back, her face etched with a desire to avoid further entanglement.

The disdain brimmed from her eyes. Matilda coolly urged her brother not to stand so defensively, as if Yvan and Mia were mere flies buzzing around, incapable of touching her. Even their prior insults seemed to her as inconsequential as a gentle breeze.

She chuckled softly, giving Mia a once–over, “A woman who couldn’t even hold a candle to Rachel doesn’t deserve to be compared to me.”

With that, she grabbed Gideon by the wrist and strutted forward, brushing past Yvan’s shoulder with such force that he stumbled back two steps, disbelief etched on his face. Anger surged within him.

Clearly, he had been too lenient with Matilda, allowing her to act so brazenly in front of him!

Mia clung to Yvan, her eyes brimming with feigned distress, all traces of her earlier bravado gone, “Mr. Boyd, you must stand up for me.”

Yvan, silent, wrapped his arm around her and headed home, where Violet awaited. It was evident that she had witnessed the spectacle unfold.

Violet’s gaze swept over Mia, her midlife aura of affluent sophistication undiminished, imposing enough to make Mia shrink back guiltily. With a look that seemed both a warning and an inquiry, Violet ascended the stairs without a word.

After consoling Mia, Yvan followed his mother to the study, “Mom, do you have something against Mia?”

Violet turned to face him, “Is the Boyd family name so easily bestowed on just anyone?”

Five years ago, it was Matilda, Ashton City’s most dazzling lady. Now, some dime–a–dozen internet celebrity waltzed in and out of the Boyd Mansion!

Yvan furrowed his brows, “Mom, you can’t say that.”

“Yvan. I have regrets.” Violet confessed, sighing deeply, “Regrets about teaming up with Rachel to drive Matilda away, a daughter–in–law who could’ve been perfect, and for what you’ve become!”

Matilda was drifting further away, the gulf between her and the Boyd family widening.

Tears rimmed Violet’s eyes. “Yvan, if you investigate what happened five years ago, i fear you’ll only regret it more.”

Visibly shaken, Yvan gripped his mother’s shoulders, asking in a grievous tone, “Mom, what do you mean by that?!”

Violet remained silent, taking a deep breath before gently removing Yvan’s hands, “I’m tired, Yvan, I don’t want to see you bring home any more unworthy women. It’s time you figured things out for yourself.”

Stunned, Yvan watched his mother leave the study, sinking into silence.

Late at night, he arranged for Mia to be sent home. It was then that Carl sent him an email prompting a video call. Carl’s face was grave as he spoke, “Mr. Boyd, during our investigation, it’s clear that someone is obstructing our efforts.”

Yvan’s brows knitted together. “Who?”

“We can’t pinpoint the exact IP address; it’s registered overseas.” Carl shook his head, “Digging deeper will require significant effort.”

Yvan massaged his temple, “Tell me what you’ve found so far.”
