A Journey from Bitterness to Truth ( Matilda and Yvan )

Chapter 79

Chapter 79

Violet stood frozen for a moment at his words, her face a mask of sorrow as she regained her composure, “Matilda, does your brother speak for you too?”

Without turning, Matilda replied, “Mrs. Boyd, my brother’s words mirror my own feelings.”

As they stepped out of the house, they were met head–on by Yvan walking up the pathway with another woman, just as Matilda and Gideon emerged from the Boyd family’s front door. All four of them paused, taken aback.

Matilda internally scoffed at the sight of yet another woman clinging to Yvan. It was no surprise, really; Yvan had never been short on female company, switching girlfriends as easily as changing shirts even when they got married.

She wondered where Evie got the confidence to believe she was an exception, that she could permanently stand by Yvan’s side.

When Yvan’s eyes fell on the cool–faced Matilda, his brows knitted slightly, “What are you doing here?” His tone was laden with suspicion.

Matilda let out a self–deprecatory chuckle – apparently, her silent presence was a blight on his landscape?

Stepping aside, Matilda said nonchalantly, “Just came to check on Logan.”

Yvan remained silent, but the woman with him piped up, “Mr. Boyd, who’s this? Is she your family’s maid?”

Maid?

Gideon’s fists clenched at the blatant insult.

Matilda, however, seemed unfazed, either indifferent or simply…fed up with the humiliations dealt by the parade of women Yvan had brought into her life over the

years.

With a serene smile, Matilda acted as if the woman hadn’t spoken, but her aloof demeanor seemed to provoke the woman further; she called out, “Hold on a second.” Yvan barked a warning, “Mia!”

Hearing that, the influencer, Mia, pouted at Yvan, her voice laced with coquetry, “Mr. Boyd, this cleaning lady is ignoring me, and it’s bothering me!”

She was clearly hinting for Yvan to defend her honor.

Matilda remained silent throughout, her expression detached.

Mia, feeling somehow intimidated, blurted out, “What’s the big deal? Just a servant, why the act?”

“Enough is enough!” Gideon couldn’t stand to see his sister insulted any further, “Do you have any manners at all? Calling someone a maid or servant – has she said a word to insult you?”

Mia rolled her eyes, “So she’s your sister. You’re so defensive, one might think…”

She was cut off as Matilda slapped Mia across the face with a swift motion.

Yvan was stunned, shouting, “Matilda! What are you doing!”

As he lunged to grab her, and Mia reached out in retaliation, Gideon stepped in front of Matilda. Mia shrieked like a banshee, “You lowlife! How dare you hit me? Do you know who I am? You dare strike me!”

Matilda stood behind Gideon, her eyes as cold as ice, “Insult me, that’s fine. I’m above it. But insult my brother, and I’m sorry, but I’m fiercely protective!”

“You filthy bitch!” Mia spat out vilely, “Played out and still have the nerve to confront me! Do you even know who I am? What are you in comparison!”

Yvan then turned to Matilda, “Matilda, apologize!”

Again with the apologies, always expecting her to apologize!

Matilda laughed, a stunning sight, “Yvan, you really are pitiful.*
