A Bride’s Revenge No Longer the Backup

Chapter 247

Chapter 247

Fine! You said it yourself. Who needs your affection, anyway?"

Brian turned to leave, but frustration gnawed at him. He looked back at Ariana and said icily, "There are plenty of women in Gleaston who want to marry me. It's not like I can't live without you, Ariana."

"I already knew that long ago. There's no need to tell me every single time."

Ariana rolled her eyes in her head. He acted as though the whole world revolved around him. Seeing how indifferent she was, Brian's frustration only grew. Finally, he stormed out of the room, slamming the door.

Outside, Emily had been waiting nervously, worried the two of them might come to blows. "Mr. Lodge, about Ms. Quinlan..."

"Grandma likes Elise, right? Then let's choose her," Brian said coldly.

Emily looked up at him in disbelief. "Choose Ms. Quinlan? But what about Ms. Granger?"

If Evelyn found out he'd gotten engaged to someone else so soon, she surely wouldn't take it well

"Why so many questions? Do as I say," Brian said impatiently.

Every time he spoke with Ariana, he ended up in a foul mood. Could she really be cursing him somehow?

In her room, Ariana sighed in relief once he was gone.

Fortunately, she had been quick to hide the documents William had given her. If Brian had seen them, it would have caused a huge mess.

Just then, there was a knock. Martha spoke from outside the door. "Ms. Torrey? It's me."

"Come in."

Ariana slipped on a robe.

Martha carried a small container of ointment. "Ms, Torrey, this is the medication Mr. Lodge ordered for you."

"He got it for me?" She eyed it warily.

Ariana opened the ointment and took a look. Inside was a thick, white paste with no recognizable label. "Looks like something with no proper manufacturing info..."

Martha explained, "I hear it's a special formula Mr. Lodge asked someone overseas to prepare just for your injuries. It has lots of precious medicinal ingredients."

Ariana muttered, "He really does burn money..."

This was the life of someone at the top. Even medicines were custom-made. No wonder every debutante in Gleaston vied to become Brian's fiancée.

Meanwhile, Brian had gone to his study.

Emily laid a folder of new information in front of him. "Mr Lodge, we investigated that suburban lot in South Gleaston. It does belong to a newly opened subsidiary under Mr. Kingsman."

"A new subsidiary?"

"Yes. Warto Group, under Kingsman Co. It recently went public using that suburban land project, and it's off to a strong start."

Brian flipped through the file. He noticed the CEO's name was Susan Smith. He frowned. "Susan Smith... I haven't heard of any such figure at Kingsman Co."

"They say she's a high-level returnee from overseas. She's rumored to have a doctorate in finance and keeps a low profile. Mr. Kingsman supposedly spent a fortune to hire her. Word is, she's extremely capable."

Brian gave a derisive laugh.

Capable or not, William sure had been lucky this year. William evaded Brian's attempt to trap him at the auction, leaving Brian the one who got tricked.
