Chapter 367
Chapter 367
Lucas chuckled. "Would a kind person steal someone else's child?"
"Exactly." Leigh sighed in reply. "Never try to reason with shameless people, because not having shame makes them invincible. You will definitely lose if you reason with them!"
"Makes sense." Lucas nodded.
"Of course!" She looked at him with scrutinizing eyes then. "You are such a handsome fellow! Why would your parents abandon someone as good-looking as you?"
He didn't answer her question when he realized that she was someone who took notice of other people's appearances.
"Tell me! Why aren't you answering me? Why were you adopted by the Harts?" she continued to bombard him with questions.
"My mother passed away when I was very young, and my father..." He suddenly smiled, seemingly at himself. "Walter lied to your adoptive parents that you were an illegitimate daughter. You being an illegitimate daughter is fake news, but I am an illegitimate son."
"Are you illegitimate?" She sat up straight and looked at him with her chin up. "Your birth father must be very rich then. It is usually only the rich people who have illegitimate children."
This doctor has such an odd way of thinking. Her questions are all so unexpected that they always catch me off-guard.
"Yes, my birth father is wealthy," he replied, slightly speechless. "His name is Mario Griffin."
That made Leigh raise her eyebrows. "Mario Griffin, the King of Real Estate?"
"That is right." He nodded.
"Wow!" She clasped her hands in front of her chest. "So, you are the son of the King of Real Estate! My apologies if I have been disrespectful."
"Are you trying to gross me out, or are you making fun of me? I told you I am a b*stard.“
”Oh… You are right." She continued to take in every inch of his face. "Your mother must be extremely beautiful for her to give birth to someone as handsome as you!"
Lucas fell silent again, but in his heart he was chanting, She is a drunkard, and drunkards talk crazy. Since I am a forgiving man, I have to let it go!
Leigh's eyes flickered then. "From what I remember, the Griffins have 5 daughters, don't they? Does Mario Griffin not have a son?"
"If you exclude the illegitimate son, yes, he doesn't have a son."
Leigh immediately started chortling. "Haha! Oopsie daisy, I forgot about you."
Just what is so funny about that?!
Not wanting to keep the conversation going, he coaxed her, "It is getting late. You should go back to sleep. You will catch a cold from staying out on such a cold night."
"Pshh, I am a doctor. How can I possibly catch a cold?" She refused to leave.
"Do doctors not catch colds?"
"I don't know about other doctors, but I know I won't."
"I don't believe you!"
"Don't believe me if you don't want to. It has got nothing to do with me." She shamelessly sprawled on the table again as a firm statement that she refused to go back.
As he couldn't let a young and beautiful drunk woman stay in the courtyard, he had to patiently continue to coax her in hopes of tricking her into going back to her room to rest.
"I am not going back. You haven't finished talking!" She looked at him with curious eyes that pleaded for more juicy gossip. "Even though you are an illegitimate child, you are still a son. Has your father not thought of any way to bring you back to the Griffin Family so that you can inherit the family's glory?"
Lucas remained quiet at her probing question.
Seeing this, Leigh raised her right hand and declared, "Just tell me! I will help you keep it a secret. I swear that you can tell me alone. I promise I won't tell anyone else. If I do, I will get struck by lightning!"
The man couldn't help feeling resigned. "Why are you swearing out of nowhere? It is not like it is a
secret anyway."
"Quickly tell me, then! It is going to be a long, boring night. Tell me something interesting!" Leigh lay on the stone table, her eyes looking at him excitedly as she waited for his story.
Out of nowhere, he suddenly recalled what she said about wanting him to tell her his sad story to cheer her up.
She was, undeniably, a drunkard!
However, it would be nice to tell someone the things that he had kept suppressed, especially when he was saying it to someone who shared a similar fate as him.
As Lucas raised a hand and snapped his fingers, someone immediately strode toward him and respectfully bowed. "Young Master."
"Get me a few bottles of alcohol and some snacks," he instructed.
His bodyguard hesitated for a second before he answered, "Yes, Young Master!"
There was everything in Sun Garden. It only took a moment before the bodyguard sent a few bottles of alcohol and snacks over.
Leigh's eyes lit up when she looked at the snacks and wine on the stone table. "Wow! You sure know how to enjoy yourself!" she exclaimed before asking, "Can I have some?"
"Of course." Without preparing a cup, he then passed a bottle of alcohol to her. "Let's have a drink
together."
He wanted to intoxicate her so that she would fall asleep, and he could get someone to move her back to her room.
"Thank you." Leigh took a big sip from her bottle of wine and praised unhesitatingly, "You are such a good person! Not only do you look good, you are also generous!"
It seems like I am her type. She has complimented my looks a few times already tonight.
"Come on, let's have a toast!" She clinked bottles with him. "Quick, I have alcohol, and you have a story to tell. Hurry up and spill so that I can have some snacks with my alcohol!"
That is my alcohol, though.
A resigned Lucas shook his head and took a swig as well. "Where should I start?"
"Start from your mother," she suggested. "I am sure you are so good-looking because you have an extremely beautiful mother. How did she die? Is it true that beautiful women live unfortunate lives?"
How did she die? Can't you say 'pass away' at the very least? Forget it. He wouldn't put himself on the same level as a drunkard.
"My mother died of an illness." He took another sip of wine before his voice took a gloomy turn. "I was only 2 or 3 years old when she passed away. My mother was bringing me to pay homage to my grandparents when a heart attack hit just as we were coming down the mountain. She died on the way down. My foster brother and father happened to pass by the area. Since my brother liked me, my father
decided to take me back home. He took me in as his adopted son not long after."
"Oh! So, you were taken in by Sebastian!"
"Yes," Lucas said, "Even though I am an illegitimate child, my mother was neither a mistress nor a paramour. On the contrary, my mother was deceived by Mario. They were classmates in college. He wanted to marry her after they fell in love with each other, but his parents looked down on my mother's background and wanted him to marry a woman who was helpful to the Griffin Family. They opposed Mario and my mother from having contact then. That man got a fake marriage certificate to deceive my mother, and since she was raised to be a naive and simple person as she was my grandparents' only daughter, she believed whatever he said. That was how she was deceived by him..."
"Holy cow, Mario is such a scumbag! How immoral of him!" Leigh cried. "He can even fake a marriage certificate?"
"Yes, he didn't want to lie to my mother at first. He really wanted to get married to my mother in secret, but his plan was discovered by his parents. His father then confiscated his account book and identification card. He didn't know how to explain it to my mother, so he lied to her by saying that the Civil Affairs Bureau was crowded with people who wanted to register for their marriage, but they had to queue for a long time."
He continued, "He claimed that he found someone through his connections, and that they didn't have to queue up if she would just hand over the household registration book and identification card to him so that the registration for the marriage certificate could be completed. My mother believed him so much that she gave him those documents. After he found someone to make 2 copies of fake marriage certificates, my mother thought it was real, and she happily lived with him as husband and wife..."
"What a dirtbag! He is terrible!" She exploded in anger and cursed out loud. "What happened after that?" she asked.
