You, Me and Our Genius Twins

Chapter 346

Chapter 346

If it were in the past, if Jennifer dared to talk about the eldest son's family like that, Penny would definitely jump up and cry or retort.

But today, she didn't dare make a sound.

She knew how serious her daughter's mistakes were, going to the second son's family and killing their cat. It was a huge slap to the family's face and proof that she held no respect for the second son's family.

If someone from the second son's family dared to do that to her own family, she would cause chaos.

Eddie didn't respond to Jennifer's words. Instead, he said anxiously, "How is Luna now?"

"The doctor who saved Luna's life said that since Luna was born weak, she can only live up to her thirties after being inflicted with such an injury." In the end, Jennifer couldn't stop her tears from falling. She covered her mouth and sobbed silently.

When she knew that her daughter could only live until her thirties, she spent every waking minute in anxiety and fear.

A normal person's life wouldn't even have reached its halfway point in their thirties. Some girls who married late would still be unwedded by then. However, her daughter would be nearing the end of her life at that point.

If she really had to see her daughter die before her, she'd rather die before her children did. Then, she wouldn't have to bear the pain that exceeded anyone else's.

"She can only live up to her thirties?" Eddie was shocked and furious. His face went pale, and his hands began to tremble.

Many old people like him would favor males over females, loving their grandsons more. He used to be like that as well, but when Luna covered him and blocked a bullet for him, he changed as soon as he saw Luna lying in his arms, closing her eyes while blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.

Luna had inherited the best parts of his younger son and daughter-in-law; she was smart from a young age.

That day, all those bodyguards failed to notice anything different, but Luna realized it.

A girl in her teens had the courage to run up and take a bullet for him. His heart was broken, but he was also equally proud of her.

Not many of his old friends would be as blessed as he was, for he had a wonderful granddaughter to be proud of.

Ever since then, everyone who knew him also knew that he favored Luna greatly. He also did it without shame as if it were the most natural thing in the world. His granddaughter was willing to risk her life to save his, so why wouldn't he favor her?

In the beginning, he favored Luna because Luna had saved his life. Afterward, as he continued to love her, it turned into a habit.

The child he loved would have no flaws in his eyes. Also, Luna was smart, pretty, lovable, and considerate. The more he looked at her, the dearer he found her, and he loved her greatly.

But now, his daughter-in-law told him that the child he loved the most might not be able to make it to her forties.

He felt as if something had gripped his heart, and it was in terrible pain.

"Yes…" Jennifer said while sobbing, "Dr. Lawson said that the doctor who saved Luna's life is the best doctor in the country. She can help Luna recuperate, so perhaps she can also extend Luna's life. However, Ava offended that doctor, and that doctor said that if the Penhams could raise someone like Ava, then the Penhams shouldn't be too good a family itself. As such, she isn't willing to help Luna recuperate…"

She took a deep breath, trying hard to stabilize her emotions. "Dad, this is also one of the reasons why we want to cut ties with the eldest son's family. Only by splitting up can we ask that doctor to help Luna recuperate…"

"Who is that doctor, and how dare she slander the Penhams?" Penny finally found somewhere she could vent, so she said angrily, "The Penhams' reputation cannot be ruined by any random person!"

"You shut up!" Eddie furiously hurled the teacup in his hand onto the floor near Penny's feet.

The porcelain cup broke into pieces as shards flew everywhere.

Terrified, Penny screamed, and her face instantly turned white.

Eddie grabbed another cup and threw it at Bryson's feet. "You wretched son! Look at what sort of woman you married, and what sort of daughter you have!"

Bryson had shame written all over his face as he said to Brandon and Jennifer, "Brandon, Jennifer, it's all my fault. I failed to educate Ava properly…"

"There's no use talking about that." Jennifer looked at him. "Bryson, I don't accept apologies, nor will I ever forgive Ava. I only have one request, which is to split up!"

"Yes, we won't accept any apologies!" Lewis Penham, Luna's younger brother and the youngest out of the third generation of the Penham Family, shouted with tears in his eyes, "Ava always bullies my sister, and I hate her! I will never forgive her!"

He glared at Ava in hatred. His voice was shaking, and so was his entire body.

Jennifer patted him softly to comfort him. Then, she looked at Eddie. "Dad, our hearts have grown cold toward the eldest son's family. There is no meaning if we're still forced to be together, and our relationship will only get worse. Please allow us to split with the eldest son's family."

Eddie was especially adamant about traditions. He believed that if brothers were united, they would be strong enough to overcome any adversaries.

Also, since his eldest son's family was in the business field while his second son's family was involved in politics, it was only when the two families worked together that the perfect fusion could be created, and it would help the Penham Family prosper.

Splitting up would be bad news for both families.

Moreover, now that the two families had grown distant and became enemies, if news of this got out, the Penhams would definitely be mocked.

He felt as if something had gripped his heart, and it was in terrible pain.

His second daughter-in-law even wanted to announce the split in public. The more people knew about this, the worse the Penhams' reputation would be.

This was something he couldn't accept.

He softened his tone and tried to convince Jennifer, saying, "Jennifer, I know that both you and Luna feel wronged by this incident. I am also heartbroken to know that Luna is injured. It's true that Ava is at fault, but Bryson, Austin, and Justin are all good children. Ava committed a mistake, but it shouldn't be a burden for everyone in the eldest son's family to bear. Don't you think so, Jennifer?"

"Dad, I know you have many ideals to convince me, but I won't change my mind," said Jennifer, "Yes, I admit that Bryson is a good man, and Austin and Justin are both good children. However, throughout all those years, I believe they have seen for themselves how Penny and Ava treated me and Luna, but which one of them stepped up to stop the harsh treatment? Who spoke up for me and Luna? In the end, they're still a family."

She continued, "If I don't protect my children, they will only be bullied to the point of death! I thought I was above them and that I didn't need to stoop to their level, but I now realize that I am wrong; I am terribly wrong! In the future, if anyone dares to bully my daughter the slightest, I'll fight them with my life!"

Eddie fell silent for a long while.

It was too difficult for him to agree to the split.

Some time later, he asked Jennifer, "What if I don't agree to it?"

"In that case, I'm sorry, Dad," she said. "No matter if you agree to it or not, I will announce in the newspapers tomorrow that the Penhams' eldest son's family and the second son's family have cut off ties with each other. We will not be associated with each other from then on!"

Jennifer was from a reputable background, and she possessed an outstanding status. Even Eddie couldn't do anything about her, so he could only turn to Brandon. "Brandon, are you in favor of this as well?"

"I agree, Dad." Brandon looked regretfully at Jennifer and Lewis. "All these years, I've caused Jennifer and my children a lot of injustice because I wanted to avoid conflict. I understand everything now. I didn't want anyone to clash, but in reality, I was just too chicken!"

He reached out and pulled Jennifer and Lewis into his arms. Then, he looked at Eddie and said firmly, "Dad, I have learned my harsh lesson from Luna's accident. I was wrong in the past…"

He turned his gaze onto Penny and Ava, his voice cold and stern as he said, "I don't care who they are, or what their status may be. In the future, if anyone dares to bully my wife and children, they will have to do it over my dead body!"
