Chapter 312
Chapter 312
Sebastian smiled and said, "Bring the children along. Don't forget to let them wear something with lots of pockets for them to stuff all their gift money."
"O-Okay," Madeline replied after being rendered speechless.
They ended the call after the small talk because he had something to do.
Madeline couldn't help but smile as she looked in the mirror at this moment. I feel so... loved! She felt like she was floating in the clouds and filled with joy. She could not control her smile as the corners of her lips began to curl up without her knowledge. Her mood was upbeat throughout the day.
The children's classes were about to end in the afternoon. She set aside her work and picked up the children from school. Even though it was only a few minutes to school and crossing the road with the children was dangerous, Emory would always drive Madeline to pick up the children. It was Emory behind the wheel today, with Leonard in the passenger seat and Madeline in the back.
Luke crammed himself into the car just as the door closed. When Madeline saw him getting into the car, she was at a loss for words.
"What?" Luke didn't regard himself as an outsider and sat comfortably beside her. "Why are you staring at me like this?"
"What's the matter with you?" She sighed.
"What about me?" He gave her an innocent look. "I'm just bored. Is it a problem for me to accompany you when you pick up my nephews?"
Madeline was speechless, so she shook her head and instructed Emory, "Drive."
Emory started the car and drove to school after a hum of acknowledgment.
Then, Luke shifted his weight, leaned against the back of the seat, and propped his chin up with one hand. He asked Madeline idly but elegantly, "I heard you're going to have a wedding ceremony with Sebastian soon."
"Yes." Her lips naturally curled upwards at the corners. "The date has already been set. It'll be on the 16th of next month."
He pursed his lips and exclaimed, "Tell me if he dares to treat you badly!" I'll kill that scumbag even if it means losing my life.
"He treats me very well." Madeline pressed her lips together and smiled happily. "He treats me better than anyone else in the world!"
Her response irritated Luke and he gave her a harsh glance. It was as if she stabbed a dagger into his heart, making him feel uneasy. "Are you sure? I'm the one who treats you the best!" I'm willing to sacrifice everything for you.
"You?" She raised her brows and looked at him with skepticism.
Luke was deeply hurt by her response at this point. "Aren't I?"
Madeline shook her head and asked, "Have you forgotten what you've done?"
"Okay. I admit that what I did last time was my fault, but you know I did it all for your own good, right?" he clarified.
"Luke, have you not heard that the phrase 'I did this for your own good' is very annoying most of the time?" She gazed intently into his eyes and stated, "Love is about self-control and respect. You obviously do what you want to do. It's for your own happiness, not mine. From beginning to end, you're only interested in achieving your own objectives, not mine!"
After a brief silence, he looked down, flicked his finger, and said softly, "I've changed, haven't I? It's only that one time. I will not make the same mistake again."
Madeline sighed quietly when she heard that. "I hope so." My brother is a psycho! Can he be trusted with his promise?
The worst aspect was that Madeline treated Luke as if he were her biological brother. Other people could despise him, even if he was a psycho, but she couldn't. He was the only sibling she ever had in her lifetime. They were there for each other during the toughest times. It wouldn't make sense for them to turn on each other and pretend they didn't know each other now that they had a better life. They would be brothers and sisters for the rest of their lives if given a chance!
She smiled and patted his shoulder as she reflected on this thought. "Okay, fine. Let us not dwell on the past any longer. From now on, we'll be nice to each other. You should find a wife right away. I'm telling you right now that you need to find one who gets along with me. I don't want any problems in my relationship with her in the future because I'm already tired of dealing with you. I'll be furious if you continue to find an intolerable wife!"
"I'm not going to find one!" It appeared that Luke was flatly rejecting the suggestion as he moved closer to the car door. "What makes women so special? All of them are troublesome!"
"Am I not a woman? Am I troublesome too?" she asked.
"You're different and exceptional!" Luke exclaimed. "In my world, there are only two types of women: women and you. You are more important than the entire world combined."
Madeline was at a loss for words after hearing his response. What kind of nonsense is this?
"You?" She raised her brows and looked at him with skepticism.
Afterward, she shook her head. "Never mind. I'm not going to argue with you. It serves no purpose to continue these never-ending arguments. You can't just ignore the inevitable when it comes to meeting your soul mate."
Luke pursed his lips and remained silent.
Even though the road was congested, they arrived at the school quickly because the distance was short. When they arrived, Luke and Madeline got out of the car and waited beside Quincy and Joel's school's pick-up area. They saw Quincy and Joel's class appear at the school entrance after a few minutes. Quincy, Joel, and Alex were lining up and walking toward the class pick-up area on the right side of the entrance.
The children could see Madeline and Luke from a distance. Quincy smiled at Madeline, while Joel smiled and waved at her. When Madeline saw this, she smiled and waved back. Joel was overjoyed
and began jumping.
"Walk properly!" Quincy grabbed his brother's hand.
To him, his younger sibling was incomprehensible. He couldn't understand why his brother would be so happy and excited whenever he saw their mother picking them up from school as if they hadn't seen her in a long time.
Joel was even happier after Quincy held his hand and smiled at his brother. "You're so kind, Quincy!"
Quincy was taken aback by his brother's kind words. Why does he enjoy talking so much? Especially these flattering remarks!
On the contrary, Quincy did not like it. He found it bothersome to communicate, so he avoided doing so.
Joel ran joyfully to Madeline at the designated pick-up area while holding Quincy's hand. "Mommy!"
He dragged Quincy and galloped toward Madeline before leaping into her embrace. He hugged her tightly with his two little arms and said, "I missed you, Mommy!"
Madeline lowered her head to touch his little cheeks and said softly, "I missed you, too."
"Mommy, I'm hungry. Let's go home!" He grabbed her hand and dashed toward their car.
Madeline smiled as she let him drag her. Since parking near the school's entrance was prohibited, their car was parked 300 yards away on the side of the road. Joel dragged Madeline in front of him while
Quincy and Alex trailed behind. Suddenly, a speeding car approached them on the opposite side of the road. It abruptly changed direction while accelerating and sprinted madly toward Joel and Madeline.
