01 - Chapter One - Quinn Wolfin's Point Of View.

Imagine having a mother that wasn't the best parent all because of an event, an event that turned the mother you once knew into a completely different person. My dear mother, the woman who created me was also the monster that hunted in all of my nightmares. When she birthed me she gave me the name Quinn, it paired well with our last name Wolfin. Quinn Wolfin, that is who I am. In twenty-four hours would mark the day I had been born sixteen years earlier. I tried to be a normal teenage boy whose drunk mother didn't beat him over the silliest little things but you can only lie to yourself so many times before even you can see through them. After going through photos on my phone I set it aside and thought about her, my mother.

Earlier we had gotten into a fight and she stormed off drunk, I worried for her because how could one drive that drunk. I had hoped mum would be back by now but she was nowhere to be seen, no doubt having gone to get even drunk and drown her anger with alcohol. My mother was well-known for going to get drunk or leaving & going on vacations when the thought of my father leaving her danced around in her damaged mind. Things had gotten much worse after my mother had found out my father had remarried and she couldn't let it go that father didn't want her anymore. Dad had tried to get me to spend Christmas with him and his new wife Luanne, but selfishly I didn't want to spend Christmas with my father and a woman who wasn't my mother. Mom had drunk before she left the proof sat on the table and stared at me, almost begging me to dump the shit down the drain. The open bottle of wine with the half-full glass next to it seemed to be my mother's calling card. It was something I was far too used to that it didn't look out-of-place. I sat on the couch and was adamant to wait until my mother came home so that I knew she was okay.

A hard knock on the door woke me up from a sound sleep. It was four in the morning; perhaps mom had lost her house keys. When I got to the door & opened it the two policemen were enough to make me realize what had happened. She's dead.

"Hello young man, my name is Officer Clarkson, and this is Officer Andrew's, you are going to need to come with us. There's been an accident and your guardian has passed away. We contacted your next legal guardian your father and he has sent one of his friends to come to get you as he is unable to come to get you."

Shock set in and I slowly followed the officers not even bothering to lock the door. Once in the back of the car I looked at the officers and spoke.

"Am I going to have to identify her dead body..... She is dead right?" "Yes, you will have to identify her as her kin. She was pronounced dead on the scene.”

"Oh"

The drive was slow. I swear I could count seconds in between the seconds that passed. The officers had turned up the heat in the car and didn't speak; this allowed me to stew in my thoughts. Mom was gone. The good of her, the bad of her, she was all gone. Dead. What would happen to our home, my stuff and most of all me? I hadn't even noticed the car had stopped until the officer had pulled the door open and ushered me out. The walk across the parking lot was quicker than I thought because soon after I was in the station and inhaling the smell of stale doughnuts and reheated coffee. Officer Andrews placed his hand on my back and lead me to his office.

"Would you like anything..."

"Quinn... My name is Quinn"

"Would you like anything to drink Quinn?"

"Could I have a glass of warm water..."

"Absolutely."

I knew warm water was strange but it was something I had found that helped relax me.

Lord knows how long I sat in the office before dad's "friend" arrived. "Hello Quinn, I'm your father's friend Arrow Kangee."

My father's friend looked only a few years older than me and certainly way better looking than I was. He had beautiful brown eyes that matched well with his golden blond hair.

"I'm Quinn, your friend's son.”

He was smiling as if he had missed the notice that he was here to get me because my mother was dead. For some reason, he seemed the type that would smile at a funeral. I watched as he signed papers and told the officers my father would call them, I stood up and he led me out of the station and into a sleek as fuck sports car. If I hadn't been so wrapped up in worry I would have been so amazed at the car.

"I'm going to drive you back to your house so you can grab what you need to stay with your father permanently. Ok?"

"Ok."

He started the car with the push-button start and it purred to life. He turned on the radio and drove. The music on the radio was alright. The sounds fell on deaf ears.

"What's going to happen to my mother's house & our stuff?"

"Your father is going to have it put in a storage locker and he's going to keep the house for when you're older, what you do then will be your choice."

OK”

We pulled into the driveway and I got out. Emotions crashed over me as I realized this would be the last time I would be here for a long while, Who knew the next time I would be back to my family home. Walking up the drive I opened the door and walked inside. The first thing that looked at me from the dark was the wine bottle. I grabbed the bottle and walked to the sink, I watched as the horrible liquid poured down the drain.

Setting the bottle on the counter I walked towards my room and closed Mum's door on the way there. The click of the door shutting echoed through the house like never before. My room seemed stale and un- breathable. I opened my closet and pulled out my suitcase, I set it on my bed and packed the most important clothing I couldn't live without. I grabbed my phone and tucked it into my pocket before leaving the room. Arrow was looking at all the photos on the wall, but the one that held his attention was the one from my tenth birthday party.

"I was ten when that was taken."

"You all look so happy."

"I thought we all were.”

"I'm sorry for your loss Quinn.”

"It was only a matter of time I think..."

Slowly I dragged my suitcase behind me towards the door silently letting him know I was more than ready to get the heck out of this place.

"Here let me help you with your suitcase.”

Arrows hand brushed mine and some tingles ran up my arm confusing me greatly. I added it up to be a static shock. Arrow closed the trunk and we both climbed into his car. He turned it on and pulled out of the driveway

Goodbye family, goodbye memories.

Hello, uncertain future.

Here I come, father.
