Chapter 98
Sophie did not have any of the aggression that third parties in a relationship usually had.
Perhaps Calla was the one who had intruded and come between them.
Even her voice was ever so gentle and beautiful. Calla couldn’t help understanding why Mercer found it hard to forget her.
“Ms. Jonas, was it? If you have anything to say, go ahead. I’ve got things to do later.” Calla did not want to make any small talk with her. She only wanted to know why Sophie had sought her out.
Sophie looked down at the coffee cup in her hands, looking as if it was hard for her to begin.
Calla frowned, and Sophie looked up at her with bright, shining eyes.
“I’m sorry, Mrs. Garland. I know that I shouldn’t have contacted you, but Mercer and I are truly in love. I can’t live without him, and he can’t live without me, either. Can you please give us your blessing?” Sophie looked imploringly at Calla.
Calla suddenly felt as if Sophie was the victim, and she was the intruding third party.
Although Calla had no confidence, she knew the kind of stance she should be taking.
She said expressionlessly to Sophie, “You should talk to Mercer. If he wants to divorce me and marry you,
he can!”
Sophie wiped her tears away and said, “Mercer is a righteous person, and you’re currently pregnant with his child. He would never divorce you right now, so I’ll be the bad person!”
What do you mean by that? Do you want me to bring up divorce to him?” Calla suddenly felt that the woman in front of her was not as kind and sweet as she appeared. Her requests and strategies were
ruthless.
Sophie had been putting herself in the position of a victim, and she kept dabbing at her tears with a handkerchief. “I know that this is a very rude request, but do you really feel happy in this marriage? Do you feel loved by Mercer?”
“These are my affairs, and you don’t need to worry about that!” Calla felt very distrustful of Sophie.
Sophie could just take Mercer if she wanted him. Why did she have to humiliate and attack Calla?
“You seem like a very independent woman. Are you really content to live with someone who loves someone else?” Sophie asked suddenly. She seemed to have stopped crying.
Her words stabbed Calla’s heart like a knife. She looked up, her heart feeling like it had been torn to
shreds.
It was one thing to recognize the fact herself, but having it said out loud by her opponent was another thing entirely.
Calla turned red, then altogether white. She had always been sharp–tongued, but she now felt completely helpless. She had no idea how to retaliate.
After staring at Calla for a few seconds, Sophie immediately apologized. “Sorry, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to

hurt you. It just slipped out. But… it’s the truth, isn’t it?”
Calla looked coldly at her. At that moment, she realized how ruthless Sophie truly was. Even though she looked weak on the outside, everything she said was calculated to hurt Calla. She was definitely a ruthless character.
Calla remained silent. Sophie added, “Did Mercer tell you what he’s doing while he’s away?”
“What are you trying to say?” Calla wasn’t an idiot. She wasn’t going to rush to answer, as she knew that it was likely a trap.
Sophie smiled, looking rather embarrassed. “I’ve been living in Morvenia for the past two years. I’m rather clumsy, and I left a mess behind. Mercer went over to take care of it for me.”
