Sophie continued when she saw Calla’s furrowed brows. “Did you know? As soon as you left, Mercer moved me into your old place. I sleep on the same big bed you used to sleep on now. That bed is huge. It’s perfect for Mercer and me to… roll around.
“You didn’t satisfy him when you were together, did you? He’s been clinging to me every night these past few months; I can’t even get up in the mornings…”
“Stop it!” Calla couldn’t take it anymore and shouted, clearly emotional.
The curtains, sheets, and bedding in that residence were chosen by her after days of careful selection. They were in colors she loved. Now, they were all claimed by Sophie.
Of course, Mercer, whom she loved, had also become Sophie’s. Calla’s heart was in turmoil. She pressed her hand on her chest to soothe that unbearable feeling.
Seeing Calla in such distress, Sophie burst into laughter.
“I’m a bit tired today. I’ll chat with you another day. Maybe I’ll talk to you about Mercer’s prefèrences, especially in bed.” Sophie threw Calla a suggestive smile before she turned around and walked away.
At that moment, Jasmine happened to be coming over with freshly brewed tea.

Sophie turned and collided with Jasmine, causing the tea to spill all over Sophie and the cup to crash loudly onto the carpet.
“Are you blind?” Sophie looked down at her wet clothes and immediately bellowed.
“Ms. Jonas, I’m sorry. I didn’t see you,” Jasmine hurriedly apologized.
“How did you not see an entire adult? Fuck my luck,” Sophie complained a couple more times in a loud voice and then stormed off in frustration.
After Sophie left, Jasmine pretended to spit on the ground as she watched her walk away.
She then hurried over to Calla. Seeing how agonized Calla was, she blurted out, “Mrs. Garland, are you okay? Should I call Mr. Garland?”
“Never mind. I’m fine. Just help me upstairs to rest for a bit,” Calla uttered, her face pale.
“Okay.” Jasmine carefully assisted Calla upstairs.
Calla had no appetite as her mind was filled with Sophie’s words. Finally, after a sleepless night, she began to feel a pain in her stomach.
At first, she thought resting would help. However, the pain intensified.
Calla eventually became frightened.
When Jasmine rushed over after being called, she noticed Calla’s pants were wet. She exclaimed, “Mrs.
Garland, your water broke!”
Calla was shocked upon hearing this.
Despite her lack of experience, she knew that she was going into labor if her water had broken.

“Jasmine, quickly call Mercer!” Calla, urgently grasped Jasmine’s hand.
Butterfly Hill’s peak was a two–hour drive to the hospital in Riverford.
“Hold on, I’ll call him right away.” Jasmine hurried downstairs to make the call.
Enduring the pain, Calla struggled downstairs and half–sat on the couch, waiting for Mercer to quickly send a car to take her to the hospital.
However, after making several calls, Jasmine returned disappointed. “Mrs. Garland, Mr. Garland is on a business trip to Syna. Mr. Beck is with him. They’re on a plane; I can’t reach them at all!”
“What are we going to do?” Calla asked urgently, feeling overwhelmed by the unfortunate timing.
“That reminds me! Mr. Garland gave me his secretary’s number before he left. He said to call her in case of an emergency.” Jasmine continued making phone calls.
Calla gently caressed her swollen belly, constantly comforting her baby inside, “Hang in there, baby. Don’t rush to come out just yet!”
