Chapter 121
“What more could I want? My heart has always been here at Garland Mansion. If it weren’t for the sudden misfortune that befell my family, my child with Mercer would be calling you ‘Grandma‘ by now!” Sophie evaded the question but clearly expressed her intentions.
“But Mercer is already married…” Rose began to speak, only for Sophie to interrupt her. “He doesn’t love that woman at all. I’m the one he loves!”
“Fine. If you can make him divorce and marry you, I won’t interfere. In fact, I’ll sincerely accept you and even arrange a grand wedding for you,” Rose said. To Rose, it didn’t matter if her son married Sophie or Calla–she didn’t like either anyway.
However, she underestimated Sophie.
“Merely not interfering isn’t enough,” Sophie soon remarked with a smile. “I need your support. Help me drive that woman out of the Garland family and make Mercer give up on her completely.”
Rose frowned at those words. “This is your relationship. How can I, as a mother, interfere or help you?”
Sophie’s eyes darkened as she looked away. “I know you can find a way. I’ll give you a week. If you can’t come up with a solution, I’ll send this photo to the tabloids in Sedonia. You will be even more famous
-then!”
With that, Sophie took her bag and stood up to leave.
“This is blackmail!” Rose complained angrily.
Sophie came to a halt. With her back to Rose, she announced, “I’m willing to do anything to be with
Mercer,”
“Hah!” Rose sneered. “You’re too naive, young lady. With my power, getting rid of you is as easy as crushing an ant. Do you really think you can threaten me?”
Sophie turned to meet Rose’s shrewd gaze.
“Mrs. Garland Senior, I didn’t come here unprepared. The place I’m living in at Riverford is under Mercer’s name. He and I have a stable relationship. If something happens to me, do you think he will stand by and do nothing?”
“You’re using Mercer to threaten me?” Rose stood up abruptly.
Sophie immediately smiled. “Mrs. Garland Senior, over the years, the relationship between you and Mercer has probably been reduced to mere appearances, hasn’t it? He’s your only son. Do you want to push him into a dead end?”
Sophie’s words hit Rose like a thunderbolt. The latter slowly sank back onto the stone bench, stunned.
Sophie stepped forward when she saw Rose on the verge of yielding. Her attitude was much more respectful when she gently placed her hand on Rose’s shoulder.
“Mrs. Garland Senior, I have no ill intentions. I just love Mercer too much. If I can marry him in the future, I will certainly care for you and encourage Mercer to mend his relationship with you.”
“Remember your words today.” Rose was a wise woman. This single sentence signified the completion of their transaction.

“I swear to you now: if I break my promise, I will die a terrible death!” Sophie immediately raised her right hand and swore.
“Once it’s done, make sure to destroy all the negatives” Rose lifted her chin and looked Sophie in the eye.
“Don’t worry.” Sophie nodded. “I promise I will.”
