Mercer’s lips curled slightly when he heard that Calla had gained weight. He seemed satisfied with the result. “Thank you for your hard work. Jasmine, see them out,” he said.
After the doctors and nurses packed up their equipment, they left with Jasmine.
Mercer approached the bed, glanced at Calla, and then at her prominent belly. He reached out to touch it, but Calla swatted his hand away irritably.
“Don’t touch me,” she hissed.
“Do you think I’m interested in touching you? I just want to feel my child,” Mercer retorted immediately.
Calla’s face flushed at his words. She then suppressed her anger and calmly said, “Mercer, since the person you love has returned, why don’t you just divorce me? Even if we divorce, I can still safely give birth to your child. You can’t marry the one you love without divorcing me. Do you really want to see her in pain?”
Calla didn’t understand why Mercer was doing this. Was it simply because she had angered him and he wanted to protect his pride as a man? Or did he insist on having the child born within the marriage to give them a legitimate status?
Mercer stared at Calla for a moment, seemingly agitated. “Calla, you’re the most self–centered woman
I’ve ever met.”
“Mercer, don’t start getting personal. I’m seriously discussing our situation.”
“I’m the one who gets to make the decisions regarding our situation. You have no right to discuss it with me!” Mercer spat impatiently before turning to leave.
Calla knew he might not return for some time when she saw him leave. Urgently wanting to clarify things, she jumped out of bed barefoot and got in his way.
“What do you want?” Mercer frowned, staring at her.
After thinking briefly, Calla replied, “I want a divorce!”
These four words alone made Mercer’s forehead veins bulge in anger as he questioned, “Are you in such a hurry to divorce me because you want to be with Harlan?”
“That’s my business,” Calla retorted. She knew he still suspected her relationship with Harlan.
Her words enraged Mercer, who grabbed her arm and gritted his teeth.
“You’re carrying my child, and yet you’re so eager to run to another man!”
“You say I’m being unreasonable, but you’re the unreasonable one! You’re always jumping to conclusions.” Calla’s eyes were filled with resentment.
“Sure, I’m unreasonable. And let me tell you, as long as you’re carrying my child, you’re not allowed to get close to any man!” Mercer snapped before he released her arm and stormed off.
“Mercer…” Calla called after him, but he ignored her and disappeared through the door frame.

Chapter 118
The car slowly wound its way down the mountain road.
Mercer didn’t stop smoking as he sat in the back seat. Even though the window was half–lowered, the air inside the car remained stifling.
“Simon,” Mercer suddenly called out with a forlorn expression.
“Sir?” Simon glanced back at him. He had never seen his boss like this.
After a moment, Mercer seemed to either be talking to himself or confiding in Simon. “Why are some women so ungrateful? No matter how you treat them, they feel nothing.”
“Are you talking about Mrs. Garland?” Simon asked.
Mercer then let out a bitter laugh. “Why am I even telling you this? You’re neither married nor in a relationship. You have even less experience than I do.”
