Chapter 116

Calla was stunned when she heard those words.

Mercer had come fully prepared! Once again, she had underestimated him. She was left speechless this

time.

“B–But you should still let me contact them… I’m sure they’ll get suspicious if I disappear for too long.”

Under Mercer’s intense gaze, Calla, for some reason, found herself changing her demands from leaving to just being allowed to contact her mother and sister.

Mercer lowered his head and glanced at his watch. “Alright. But it’s late now. You can call your family and Alicia tomorrow morning. However, Jasmine must be present. Calla, don’t try anything, or their lives will be a living hell.”

Calla knew he meant what he said. He could easily have someone intimidate her mother and sister, and they wouldn’t be able to handle it. As for Alicia, she would live a hard life if she were to be fired.

Calla realized that even if she told them about her situation, they couldn’t help her and would only end up getting involved in her troubles.

Looking around at the luxurious room, Calla had a change of heart in an instant.

So what if she stayed here for a few months? The environment was good, she was well taken care of, and the mountain air was beneficial for pregnant women. Why not make the best of it?

The next moment, Calla yelled, “I’m hungry!”

Although her voice was filled with resignation and frustration, she was finally agreeing to eat.

Mercer turned away, touched his nose, and a faint–almost imperceptible smile–crossed his lips. He then spoke loudly in the door’s direction.

“Jasmine, Mrs. Garland is hungry. Bring the food!”

“Right away!” Jasmine’s voice came immediately from outside.

Jasmine had been keeping the food ready. Upon hearing the call, she carried the tray upstairs.

As Jasmine placed two of Calla’s favorite dishes and some bread on the bedside table, Calla immediately grabbed a fork and began devouring the food with her head bowed. The feeling of hunger was unbearable, especially since she was pregnant.

After she had a few mouthfuls, her anxiety lessened, and she regained the strength to continue opposing

Mercer.

Standing in front of Mercer, Jasmine suggested with a smile, “Mr. Garland, the mountain roads aren’t easy to navigate at this time of the night. Why don’t you stay the night? I can prepare some fresh clothes and bedding for you.”

Mercer stood there without giving a definite response. On the other hand, Calla quickly raised her chin and blurted out, “I’m a light sleeper. If you’re staying, you’d better sleep in the next room. If I don’t sleep well, it will directly affect your child.”

Chapter 116

It was clear she didn’t want to share a bed with Mercer

Her reaction made Mercer frown. Marcer then looked down at Jasmine, saying, “I have another appointment tonight, so I need to head back to Riverford Immediately.”

Although he addressed Jasmine, the message was clearly intended for Calla to hear. Understanding the couple was still at odds, Jasmine quickly added, “Mr. Garland, be careful on the road. Please make sure Mr. Beck drives slowly.”

While Jasmine spoke, Mercer kept his eyes on Calla, who continued to eat without looking up or saying a word.

The next moment, Mercer harshly declared, “I will come once a month to check if you’ve gained weight. If you lose weight, I will make sure your sister can’t attend college!”

Hearing this, Calla raised her head and glared at Mercer with a resentful look. He was truly despicable, using her family to force her compliance.
