“Yes. Can I help you?” Calla nodded, not recognizing the girl.
The girl pulled out an ID card from her bag, glanced at it, then looked up to compare the picture with Calla’s face before smiling. “You stayed at our hotel a week ago. You were in a rush and left your ID at the
front desk.”
Realization suddenly hit Calla as she looked at the ID the girl handed over.
Calla had cried her heart out when Sophie visited her that day. Alicia called her right then. Instead of meeting outside, they found a hotel near the cafe where they could stay for the afternoon.
As Calla hadn’t needed her ID in the past few days, she didn’t even realize she had left it at the hotel.
“Thank you. By the way, how did you know I live here?” Calla accepted the ID and asked curiously.
The girl put on a small smile. “The hotel is nearby. I saw you enter this neighborhood when I passed by last time, so I asked the security guard at the entrance. He told me your unit number.”
“I see,” Calla said gratefully. Losing an ID and getting a replacement would have been quite a hassle. She hadn’t expected such good service, with the hotel taking the trouble to return it to her.
“Goodbye,” the girl said before leaving.
After sending the girl off, Calla turned around and found herself under someone’s cold, intense, and shiver -inducing gaze.
Before Calla could speak, Mercer sharply asked, “Who did you get a hotel room with? And it’s even a nearby hotel. Was it Harlan?”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Calla was furious. She didn’t expect him to jump to the conclusion that she had gone to a hotel with Harlan.
Not wanting to deal with Mercer, Calla turned to head upstairs. However, Mercer, who looked like an enraged lion, grabbed her by the arm. His hair was almost standing on end.
Calla couldn’t help but shudder.
“Calla, you baffle me. You’re pregnant, and yet you went to a hotel with some random man!” Mercer spat out, his words becoming more and more irrational.
Enraged, Calla swung her hand and slapped Mercer across the face..
He stood stunned, his cold eyes fixed on her.
Calla’s hand trembled. Whether from anger or the impact of the slap, she couldn’t tell.
After a moment, Mercer gritted his teeth, squeezing her arm tightly. “You’re the most shameless woman I’ve ever met. You’re in the wrong, and you still dare to hit your man? Do you really think I won’t teach you a lesson?”
“Go ahead and kill me. That would solve everything!” Calla shouted back, her words becoming reckless.
“If it weren’t for the fact that you’re carrying my child, I’d be more than happy to end things with you.” Mercer’s eyes were now bloodshot.

Hearing his words, Calla snickered and responded defiantly, “You’re awfully confident that the child is yours.”
“Calla, I’m warning you one last time. Don’t push me over the edge!” Mercer’s gaze had a murderous glint.
At this moment, Jasmine, witnessing the escalating argument, hurried over to intervene. “Mr. Garland, Mrs. Garland, please, let’s calm down!”
“It’s none of your business!” Calla and Mercer both shouted at Jasmine in unison, turning their anger toward her.
Jasmine was at a loss for what to do at that moment.
