Upon hearing this, Mercer stepped forward and grabbed Calla’s chin. “I thought you’d be happy to see me.”

“I’m not unhappy,” Calla replied as she lowered her eyes, unable to meet his gaze.

They were about to divorce, and he was set to marry another woman. How could she be happy?

“You can’t fool me. You’re not happy,” Mercer insisted stubbornly.

Growing impatient, Calla jostled his hand away from her chin.

A trace of disgust was evident in her eyes. How could she not be repulsed? His heart and soul belonged to another woman. Why did he have to touch her like this?

Her expression angered Mercer, and his voice rose sharply. “I flew over ten hours overnight to rush back, just because I was worried about you. Why do you have to treat me like this?”

Mercer’s deep eyes gazed at Calla with a hint of hurt.

She looked up, oblivious to his emotions, and instead, her voice grew agitated. “You’ve been enduring hours of arduous flights and a week of rushing around to finish your work. It’s not because of me, is it?”

“What exactly are you trying to say?” Mercer hesitated, suppressing the anger in his chest. She was pregnant so he couldn’t lose his temper with her.

After days of careful consideration, Calla painfully uttered, “Let’s get divorced!”

Hearing those words, Mercer froze. A moment later, he clenched his fists and glared at Calla, gritting his teeth to ask, “Is this what you wanted to tell me?”

“Yes.” Calla nodded. She clutched her nightgown tightly under the covers, hands trembling slightly.

Receiving a definite answer, Mercer questioned with a darkened face, “Why?”

“Isn’t this what you wanted to tell me too?” Calla lifted her eyes to look at him.

“How do you know what I wanted to say? What nonsense is going on in your head?” Mercer’s voice rose several notches, cutting through the midnight silence.

“It doesn’t matter who says it first, the result will be the same. There’s no difference,” Calla murmured, looking at him.

Mercer frowned as he stared at her for another moment before finally shouting, “You’re making no sense!”

With that, he turned and stormed out, slamming the door behind him.

It was a while later before Calla put on her slippers and emerged from the bedroom.

She found the villa in complete darkness and silence. He must have gone out.

Looking out into the darkness, she was filled with worry. Where could he have gone at this late hour?

The next morning, Calla came downstairs with dark circles under her eyes.

“Mrs. Garland, did Mr. Garland come back last night? I saw his luggage by the door but didn’t see him this morning,” Jasmine asked as she set breakfast down on the table.

“He did come back last night but must have left again for some reason,” Calla replied.

“Mr. Garland is so dedicated to his work. Coming home so late and then going back to the office without much rest,Jasmine rambled.

Calla ate her breakfast without much appetite. She had expected him to readily agree to the divorce–but his reaction surprised her.

Did he not want a divorce? Or was he angered that she saw through his intentions?

Just then, her phone rang. Calla quickly picked it up.
