Chapter 100

Once she walked out of the café, Calla felt tears roll down her cheeks, even though she had always been strong.

This time, she looked up at the sky, but it was no use. Tears continued pouring uncontrollably down her cheeks.

Sophie looked meek and soft on the outside, but she was actually very aggressive. Calla had been destined to lose from the start.

She walked aimlessly under the scorching sun, and before long, she was drenched in sweat. However, she did not feel anything. The only thing that she felt was the dull pain in her chest.

It was only at that moment that she realized she had fallen in love with Mercer long ago.

Although she still didn’t want to admit it, the pain in her heart made it impossible for her to lie to herself any longer.

This time, she felt worse than she had a few months ago when Tim had cheated on her and run off with a wealthy heiress. She and Tim had been dating for years!

This relationship with Mercer had been doomed from the start. She was just a tool for childbirth, and once the dust had settled, she and Mercer were destined to be strangers.

Calla felt torn apart with grief. She was already getting sunburnt when Alicia happened to call her.

Alicia was shocked to hear Calla sobbing over the phone and rushed over at once. They had been best friends for such a long time, but she had never seen Calla cry. Something huge must have happened.

Alicia rushed over as fast as she could, and she was shocked to see Calla’s tear–streaked face for the first time. She hastily brought Calla to a nearby motel, because she did not want Jasmine to see her in

this state.

Alicia rubbed sunblock on her first, then added a layer of aloe vera gel. She chastised, “Look at you! How did you get into this state? What’s going on? Did that scrooge bully you? Tell me, and I’ll settle the score with him!”

Calla had rubbed her tears dry by this time. Her strong personality did not allow her to wallow and cry for long. She had only lost control momentarily.

“It’s not his fault. I was just too dumb,” she replied mechanically, her eyes looking empty.

“What happened?” Alicia asked.

Calla told her everything.

Alicia flared up in anger at once who the hell does Sophie think she is? You and Mercer are a legally wedded couple, and she’s a homewrecker at most! How dare she come looking for you? You should have slapped her right away!”

“You didn’t see her. She’s really beautiful, and she just exudes elegance. She’s childhood friends with Mercer, and she’s the one he really loves,” Calla said with a bitter smile.

“So what? You’re Mrs. Garland right now,” Alicia said.

“That’s only because of the child in my belly. Do you think he’ll let me continue being Mrs. Garland once the baby is born?” Calla asked.

Alicia could not answer, so she sat down beside her.

At that moment, Calla was thinking about getting divorced right away instead of waiting until after she had given birth. At least she was getting divorced while pregnant, and the child would already have legal recognition.

When she thought about having to continue living with Mercer for another five months, Calla felt like she couldn’t breathe. She was afraid that she would find it even harder to leave him after five months, and that it would hurt even more.

“What do you plan to do, then? You aren’t thinking of divorcing him right now, are you? That’s only going to make that homewrecker happy,” Alicia said indignantly.
