Whispers Of Betrayal (Anastasia and Alastor)

Chapter 48

Chapter 48
Zeke was extremely anxious as he grunted and let out cries.
Anastasia didn’t want to guess; she figured he was probably cursing again.
“Take good care of him. Don’t let him die.” Anastasia stood up and said that to Amanda before leaving.
Zeke whimpered and hit the bed with his only movable arm. There were tears in his eyes. No one knew if he was guilty or just
frustrated.
However, that didn’t matter to Anastasia; her family was the source of her misery.
“After I die, he should live in misery. Living is more agonizing than dying,” she thought.
Harold’s whispers sounded in her mind. “Annie, don’t scream. You’re not a little girl anymore. You’ve probably had boyfriends,
right? Let me touch you. Just for a while...”
“Dad... Help me! Get out of here!”
It was truly ironic and pitiful how Anastasia was sexually assaulted in her own house while her parents were sleeping next door.
When Anastasia got back home, her hands had lost their sensation. All she could feel was severe numbness.
Whenever she went back to that house and saw Zeke and Meredith, she would feel numb and uncomfortable all over.
There were certain wounds that she would never be able to heal and forget. They were akin to a branded mark that would grow
deeper over time.
“Jace... Liar... Alastor... Liar...” Anastasia muttered weakly.
Anastasia got a fever. Her muscles were sore all over, and her bones felt as if they had turned to mush.
Perhaps it was because she had walked for too long, the fever gave her an illusion that she was close to death. In fact, she felt
like it was not just an illusion and was really happening.
“You are all liars...” Anastasia curled up on the couch and murmured with a hoarse voice.

Everyone was a liar. No one could accompany her for the rest of her life, and no one could give her a home.
Six years ago, she believed in Jace when he said he would protect her forever. But then, he disappeared.
Four years ago, she believed in Alastor because he said he would give her a home.
Yet now, he cheated on her and even forced her to get a divorce.
“Anastasia.” In a trance, Anastasia heard someone calling her name.
“Is Alastor back? That’s impossible...” Anastasia thought.
“Do you have a fever?” When Alastor returned home, he found Anastasia curled up on the couch.
Snowball didn’t return to his cat bed and was desperately meowing at the door. He also sensed that something was wrong with
Anastasia and anxiously tried to seek help for his owner.
Alastor touched Anastasia’s forehead and frowned. “How did she get such a severe fever?”
The phone was on the table, and Felicia’s calls kept coming in.
Alastor felt somewhat annoyed and ignored it. Then, he carried Anastasia into the bedroom.
“Anastasia, take the medicine. He prepared cold medicine and urged her to drink it.
Anastasia opened her eyes dazedly, thinking she was still dreaming. “Why aren’t you with your first crush... Why did you come
back?”
Take the medicine.” Alastor held Anastasia and made her take the medicine.
“You want me to give birth to this child, don’t you? I shouldn’t take medicines so hastily...” Anastasia’s headache was severe.
She pushed Alastor away and leaned on the bed.
Alastor’s face darkened, and he poured her another glass of hot water. “Drink some hot water.”
“What brings you back? Anastasia took the hot water and only then realized she wasn’t dreaming.
Alastor had indeed come back.

“Felicia...” Alastor hesitated and remained silent for a while before speaking. “She wants to organize an art exhibition, and she
needs your mentor’s recommendation and acknowledgment. After all, Mr. Charles Lexington’s connections in Nork are top-
notch.”
The glass in Anastasia’s hand fell on her body. Her legs turned red from the burn, yet she felt nothing.
In the past, she was the one organizing charity art exhibitions to build a good image for Lopez Group.
Alastor had also fully supported her in organizing those art exhibitions for charity.
“Is he trying to pull the strings for Felicia in advance now?” Anastasia wondered.
“What makes you think that... I’ll help you refer Felicia to him and ask for an opportunity for her?” Anastasia’s breathing became
heavy with tension.
“How much crueler can Alastor be? I’m human, too,” she thought.
“Anastasia, Charles is a peculiar person. Only the students he finds promising are qualified to approach him for
recommendations. My network of contacts doesn’t align well with his.” Alastor frowned.
This was the first time that Alastor had requested her to do something, and it was for the sake of Felicia, while Anastasia was
under the pressure to divorce him.
“Are you the one with the fever? Are you half-awake?” Anastasia threw the glass away, suppressing the turmoil in her heart.
“Alastor, do you even have a conscience?”
“Jace’s grandma is sick. She has just been admitted to the emergency department, and she needs not just money for the
surgery but also top experts to attend to her. With my network of contacts, this falls within my capabilities,” Alastor said in a
solemn tone.
It seemed that he intended to exchange resources with Anastasia.
