Chapter 0621

Miranda opened the car door and was about to get out Suddenly, Sam called her back, “I have another question.”

She turned back. “What question?”

Sam waved the invitation in his hand. “Does Hansel have one?”

Miranda deadpanned, “Can you not mention him?”

“Well, as expected. I just wanted to confirm. How about Paul?”

Miranda nodded. “Of course Dr. Jefferson has one.”

“What did he contribute to the lab’s construction?”

“Although he didn’t participate in the construction of the lab, he helped us find a temporary lab during this time so our project progress wasn’t delayed.”

Sam remained silent for a moment.

If there’s nothing else, I’ll go now.”

“Alright, see you tomorrow.”

Sam watched her go upstairs. He only drove away once he saw the lights in her room turn on.

Miranda washed up and put on warm, fluffy pajamas before knocking on Paul’s door. “Dr. Jefferson, are you home?”

There was no response.

She had already knocked once when she got back earler, But after 40 minutes, there was still no one

home.

Just as Miranda was about to go home, she heard footsteps coming from downstairs that were becoming clearer. Sure enough…

“Dr. Jefferson, you’re home?”

Paul was taken aback when he turned the corner. Illuminated by the dim lights, Miranda was standing at the top of the stairs and smiling down at him.

-At that moment, Paul thought he was seeing things. It was only when he heard Miranda calling him in a

sweet voice that it felt real.

“Miranda? Why are you standing outside?”

“I came to knock on your door, but you didn’t seem to be home. I was just about to head back.”

-Paul stepped up the last stair and stood in front of her. Do you need me for something?”

“I wanted to “Suddenly, Miranda paused. She leaned in and sniffed him carefully before exclaiming in surprise, “Dr. Jefferson, did you drink?”

Paul flushed Instantly. “Sorry… Is the smell that strong? As he spoke, he took a few steps back to put some distance between them.

“No, no…” Miranda shook her head. Although he smelled like alcohol, it couldn’t cover up the pleasant, woodsy fragrance from his body.

He replied, “My former colleague from Malca came to Elgerson on a business trip. We hadn’t seen each other in years, so we had a meal together. I got a little carried away and had a few more drinks.”

“Are you alright?” Miranda actually wanted to ask if he was drunk.

Paul nodded. “I’m fine, really. I’m not drunk.”

“Good, then wait for me here!” After saying that, she tumed and went back home.

When she came out again a moment later, she was holding an envelope. “This is the invitation for our opening ceremony tomorrow. Dr. Jefferson, if you’re free, please come and visit.”

Paul took the envelope. “Sure, I’ll definitely turn up.

“Well… I’ll head back then.” Miranda pointed to her apartment.

“Okay.” He nodded with a smile.

The next second, Paul lost his balance and stumbled backward. Miranda quickly reached out to steady him. As she leaned closer to him, a pleasant scent wafted into his nose.

Paul felt his cheeks grow hotter, as if they were burning with fire. Just moments ago, he had confidently claimed that he wasn’t drunk. Now, he wasn’t so sure.

“Dr. Jefferson? Dr. Jefferson!” Miranda called.

“Huh? What?” Paul jolted, snapping back to reality.

“Are you sure you’re alright? Are you really not drunk? Then again, which drunk person would ever admit to being drunk…” Miranda sighed in resignation and said, “Fine, you don’t have to say anything. Whatever you say isn’t believable anyway.”

Paul was at a loss for words.

Miranda held him steady with one arm and reached into his coat pocket with the other. Soon, she found the key to his place.
