Chapter 6
After we entered the rented house, I looked around in shock. Not from its beauty, it was quite the opposite. We sat on the floor because Roy thought that it would be a great idea if the house didn’t have any furniture at all. Not even one mattress. He could be stupid and cheap sometimes and yet he dared talk about me being cheap.
“So... Are you going to explain why did you ‘kidnap’ my best friend?” Isa asked with a frown on her face and I nodded in agreement. I had the right to know since I was the main character there. “Yeah, you didn’t kidnap me for money as you exclaimed so why?” I added and waited for someone to talk.
I heard a clap from the side and I turned my head in anticipation. “Okay, so here’s the thing, I saw a bird talking to another bird. I felt goosebumps run down my spine and couldn’t help but eavesdrop on them and then-” As Lance started to talk, I just slapped the back of his head with a glare. “Seriously? Someone, who is not crazy, should do the talking!” I cleared and then pointed at Dorian.
He raised his arms and shook his head. “No, thanks. Roy, please do the honors...” Dorian said and I sighed in defeat. “Why me?” Roy asked him and Dorian shrugged. “It was your idea after all,” he simply said and I looked at Roy. “Fine! I will talk... Cowards,” he muttered.
“Finally,” Ismarelda countered and I rested my head on her shoulder. “But first, I need to drink water, who wants a cup?” Roy asked as he started to get up and I lost it. “Oh for God’s sake! Come on, speak or I swear I’m going to kill you!” I yelled, clearly out of patience, and then made him sit tight on the floor. “Okay, okay, I’m just nervous.” He stated and I didn’t buy it. He is a great liar.
“A few days ago, while I was on my shift, I got an order to deliver pizza. I prepared it and drove to the place. At first glance, it was a normal house, but when they opened the door, my blood ran cold. They were smoking all kinds of drugs and it was visible in the air. A kid could tell that they were drunk and high. I just handed them the pizza boxes and wanted to flee from there. I was too frightened that I almost forgot to take the money.” He explained and I raised my eyebrows.
“What does that have to do with me?” I asked, confused and he rolled his eyes. “Will you let me finish? Thanks!” He countered and I shut up. At least he was talking. “As I waited by the entrance, feeling very uncomfortable and unsafe, I noticed a picture near the door flipped upside down. The curiosity got the best of me and I flipped it over with my foot. My eyes widened in fear when I saw your picture, Divana!” As he said that, I was frozen in place. Not that I moved before that.
“What?” Isa asked and Roy nodded. “I was too terrified to move but I managed to read what was written at the very end of your picture...” He took a deep breath and then he said. “Next target.” Dorian patted his shoulder. “Yeah, and when he told us, we had to do something so I told him to go back there and confirm it,” he said with a firm expression on his face.
“So I made up a plan. The next day I went back with the excuse that I forgot to give them an extra pizza box as a gift for our company’s 20′s birthday. They bought my big fat lie because they were all wasted. They even invited me in and I took that as my only chance. But the moment I stepped foot into their living room, I gasped. I saw numerous pictures of you.”
“I figured they were stalking you for months because you looked like you were busy with other stuff in the pictures. You didn’t even notice them. I made myself feel comfortable with them until I asked about the pictures, most of them were asleep by that time, but there was this one guy who looked like he was about to pass out soon so I stood next to him and asked. He told me and I quote his exact words: This beautiful young lady is filthy rich, we got to take her and her money but shhh, don’t tell anyone!” Roy said and there was a moment of silence that I appreciated. What was actually going on here?
My life was in real danger and I was still in shock. It was all that News reporter’s fault after all. I was a moving target because of my stupid bank account. I didn’t understand how being rich would make life easier? It was getting harder by the second and sadly, most of the population dream about money but they didn’t really know that it could destroy lives.
I heard someone clear their throat so I focused back on them. “I made my research on them and they turned to be one of the newest gang out there. Their name is No La Vida, and it literally means No Life,” Dorian added and I looked at him. “You are right, they have no life!” I stated and they chuckled for a second but Dorian’s face turned serious once again.
“Yeah, and there is the other meaning for that... They take the lives of irrelevant people. They kill when they think they’ve used the target until the very end and unfortunately, their targets are always women. We got terrified that they might do something to you, though I don’t know you, I couldn’t just let it go. I’d regret it for the rest of my life.” He explained and I felt the honesty in his tone which made everything that he said sink in my mind. Shit’s about to go down.
“Okay, first thing first, thank you for saving me, guys. Second, how do you know that they didn’t follow us?” I said then asked what was bugging me the whole time. Lance smiled and clapped his hands again. That should be good...
“I made sure that we would leave when they were on another mission,” he cleared and I gazed at him for a minute. “And how do you know that? I don’t even know what you do for a living!” I exclaimed the most obvious point of the day. I was getting more and more confused by the second. “I’m a cop, and I’m 23,” Lance said like it was the most natural thing ever. I looked at Dorian waiting for answers and he sighed. “And I’m a marine sniper but got released from my duties because of an injury, oh and I’m 22, ” he answered and I gasped. Isa was shocked as well, it was so obvious on her face and it was a funny sight to see.
I decided that everything was normal and I wouldn’t question it. Not yet at least. I just looked at Roy with a disappointed look. “And you’re a pizza delivery guy,” I remarked and he scoffed. “I’m still 19 years old, no need for this much shade!” He sassed back and we all laughed so hard. It was weird that I was in a different country with my best friend while being ‘kidnapped’.
