Chapter 40 What Should I Do, Stanley
Amanda was taken away by Hamish's men. Isobel was like a kite being held by a string because Amanda was detained, so she had to stay in City N.
December's wind could hurt people. She just got off the car and was scraped by the cold wind.
The doorman recognized Stanley's car and also recognized Isobel. Although surprised, he did not dare to offend and hastened to welcome her with an umbrella, "Ms. Lewis, Mr. Shaw is waiting for you inside the room."
Isobel nodded, "Thank you."
Then she went under the umbrella and stroked a few snowflakes on her shoulder.
Just as she entered, the doorman called someone to lead her, "Jack, come quickly and bring Ms. Lewis to Mr. Shaw's room."
The staff named Jack quickly came over and smiled at Isobel, "Ms. Lewis, I'll take you up."
"Thank you."
Isobel gave him a glance. Although she was smiling, the smile was faint. A pair of eyes curved; inside was only a smile without any hope. The staff was stunned for a moment, not daring to look at her again, and hurriedly led the way in front, "Ms. Lewis, this way please."
Isobel followed him up to the second floor, then into the elevator. Coming out of the elevator and made a turn only she reached the room.
With such a complicated design, if it wasn't for someone leading the way, she might go to another place.
The staff helped her push open the door of the room. The screen blocked Stanley, who was inside, but Isobel could still see the person inside just right.
"Thanks."
She answered and walked inside.
When Stanley saw her, he poured her a cup of hot tea and asked, "It's cold today, right?"
"It's indeed a little cold."
Isobel took a seat, accepted the tea, and said thank you.
Stanley glanced at her, "You don't talk much about anything these days, but you never stop saying 'thank you."
After he finished, he snorted, "Is the injury healed?"
The day Stanley picked her up from the airport, she didn't pay attention when she went upstairs and rolled down the stairs. Her hand was accidentally fractured, and a splint supported her for the first few days. Isobel only went to the hospital yesterday to have the splint removed.
Hearing his words, Isobel was a bit terrified, "Much better, the doctor asked me to take care, and I will be able to recover in a month."
After saying, she pursed her lips for a moment. She spoke with a dry throat, "There is still no news about-
-my mother?"
After Hamish took Amanda away that day, Stanley initially inquired where Amanda was, but Isobel was hospitalized. When she was discharged from the hospital, Amanda could not be found.
If she hadn't watched Hamish take her away, Isobel wouldn't have thought that Amanda was in his hands.
Stanley's hand that was holding the teapot slightly froze, "Don't worry, I had talked to Gabriel. Hamish didn't dare to really do anything to your mother."
Isobel had heard this many times, and she knew Stanley was doing his best. The Francis family had wide connections; Hamish knew many people. If Amanda was really hidden by him, it was normal to be unable to find her.
These days Hamish was very calm as if the person who wanted to destroy her that day at the airport was not him.
Isobel was always having nightmares these days, dreaming of Amanda's various tragedies.
"Still having nightmares?"
Stanley's words brought her back to
her senses. She looked at him and nodded, "dreamed about my mother again last night. I dreamed that my mom was chased and fell into the sea, she couldn't swim and kept calling me to save her.."
Stanley looked at her, "Dreams are all the opposite."
He said, then he digressed, "See what you want to eat."
Isobel was the first time here, the decoration was very chic, but she had not much mood and appetite. She casually ordered a few signature dishes and returned the menu.
Stanley also did not say anything. Since that day they came back from the airport, Isobel was already like this.
Although she used to be not a
talkative person, but her eyes were watery when she was looking at people, and her eyes were like there were full of stars in her smile. Even she was afraid of him, she was just a few more cautious in her words, and could occasionally see her expression when she was
calculating.
But after that day, she changed. Her whole body was like pressured by something. She had less to say, and her body was heavy.
She was only in her twenties. Even though it was not as lively as seventeen or eighteen, but it was still a bright and beautiful time. But now she was living a tragic life, he looked at her and felt depressed.
The meal was a bit quiet. At the end of the meal, Stanley grabbed a cigarette and wanted to light it, but held it back and only clamped it in his hand.
Isobel also put down her chopsticks and turned her head to look at him, "I want to go to the Francis family."
Hearing her words, Stanley frowned, "It's useless for you to go to the Francis family now; Gabriel almost fell out with Hamish because of this matter."
"I know."
Isobel pursed her lips for a moment, "But you don't know Gabriel, he's an old fox who always likes to make a show in front of people."
Stanley tapped his finger on the table and looked at her for a long time without saying anything.
After a while in silence, Isobel opened her mouth, "I'm going to the bathroom."
"Go ahead, the dinner doesn't start until eight, and there's no rush."
It was impossible that there was no news about Hamish hiding Amanda, but the people in City N were a bit related to the Francis family, and most of them were Hamish's followers.
Isobel was just a pawn of Hamish's
revenge, and now to be discarded. The people inside his circle who could still smile at her were already being nice to her. She wanted to ask Amanda's location, and it was impossible. But there was a
Person
who could. If anyone in the world would like her and Hamish to not be in contact with each other besides Gabriel, it was probably Martha.
She and Martha fought for so many years. The result was no one won, but the person who won was Hamish.
But it was a fact that Martha liked Hamish, and she probably hoped that Isobel would never appear in front of Hamish again in her life.
This was the night of the Sutton family's banquet, and Isobel did not have an invitation, but Stanley had.
Isobel nodded, took her phone, and got up and left the room.
Looking at the door of the room closed, Stanley got up and walked to the window. He lowered his head and lit a cigarette.
Amanda was not hidden by Hamish. A week ago, when Amanda escaped, she was accidentally hit by a car; the car behind did not brake and directly ran over.
This matter was told by Gabriel when he called him. He hurried over to Amanda to collect the body, but he found that her body was all bloody and the face could not be seen clearly.
He was just about to call Isobel, but before he could dial the number, Isobel's call came in first.
He was shocked how she knew about it, but then he heard her crying voice coming from the other end of the phone, "Stanley, I dreamed that something happened to my mother. If something happened to my mother, what should I do, Stanley."
After so many days, he still remembered the tone of her voice when she said this, despair and helpless. At that moment, he could not say the words he was about to say.
After that, he made a deal with Gabriel. The deal was he would hide the truth, but first, Hamish should not trouble Isobel again.
Gabriel wanted it very much. Therefore, Amanda's accident was only known by Stanley and Gabriel until now.
