Chapter Warming 19

Chapter 19

If not for Spencer holding Lucille up, she wouldn’t be able to stand. She felt like something was threatening to explode from her stomach. It made her feel horrible, but she couldn’t get it out. It was stuck there.

She never would’ve expected that she’d one day have too much to eat. Was this how it felt to die on an overly full stomach?

“Do you have any indigestion medicine at home?” Spencer asked.

Lucille thought about it, then shook her head.

“How about we head downstairs to get some, then? We can take this opportunity to take a stroll.”

She frowned. She did not want to leave the house, let alone walk. Spencer’s expression was helpless, but he was more patient and gentle than anything. He coaxed tenderly, “C’mon, let’s go. You’ll feel better after a short stroll.”

Lucille struggled with the thought for a few seconds. Ultimately, Spencer dragged her downstairs. She was wholly unwilling. If she had a choice, she would’ve just gone to bed and hoped she would wake up feeling better.

Spencer helped her change her shoes and grabbed her coat before leading her out of the apartment. He kept her hand in his.

Lucille looked down at their locked hands as her heart warmed. This was his second

time holding her hand; the first time had been at the hospital.

He first brought her to the pharmacy nearby. Fortunately, the residential area had been designed to be friendly for the residents, so they didn’t need to walk far.

Spencer went into the pharmacy to buy indigestion medication. He also got a glass of warm water from the sales clerk before having Lucille take the medication.

When they stood together, they seemed to make the pharmacy brighter than usual. Of course, it was mainly because they both looked good. Spencer was handsome and exuded the regality one would expect of royalty, while Lucille was pretty and dainty.

The sales clerk couldn’t help staring at them dazedly. What got her the most was how Spencer was so attentive and gentle to Lucille. He couldn’t see anything but her.

Spencer took Lucille’s hand and led her out of the pharmacy once she’d taken the

indigestion medication. She tried to pull her hand out of his, but his grip was too strong. She gave up.

She felt much better after they’d gone around the residential area. Even the world seemed better than before. She felt like she’d been brought back to life.

When they were almost back at Lucille’s apartment building, she stopped. Spencer had been holding her hand the whole time, so he noticed this immediately and stopped, too. He turned to look at her. “What’s wrong?”

Lucille raised her head slightly and took in his chiseled features with the help of the streetlights and moonlight. His eyes had the power to make anyone fall for him.

She stared at him and said, “Didn’t we agree that we wouldn’t disrupt each other’s lives, Spencer?”

He was already starting to disrupt hers. He’d barged into her lonely life and caused ripples. He’d interrupted her silence and calm. Worse still, he’d given her care and warmth. He’d even given her a sense of security that made her want to depend on him.

Spencer didn’t answer her immediately. A flame seemed to burn in his eyes, melting away his usual iciness. He held her right hand tightly, seemingly wanting the flame in his heart to reach hers through their joined hands.

“I regret it now, though,” he said clearly.
