Chapter Warming 10
Chapter 10
Samuel couldn’t care less about the crowd. He pushed through them and cried anxiously, “Ms. Johnson, are you-”
He saw a face that terrified him and abruptly stopped talking. God, wasn’t that Spencer Layton, the mysterious CEO of JM Corporation? What was he doing there?
Then, he saw that Lucille was fine. His heart settled in his chest. Suddenly, he realized the people he’d pushed aside were Lucas and Ethan. His hands trembled, and he released them. “S–Sorry, Dr. Forrest, Mr. Shaw
Now that Samuel had calmed down, he found that the crowd outside the room consisted of people who could make Whiteloop City tremble with a stomp of their feet. Even Zachary was present!
He couldn’t believe he’d had the luck of meeting them in one go. Suddenly, -something occurred to him–had Lucille offended Spencer?
As his imagination ran wild, Lucille felt herself getting angrier as Spencer held onto her. She was angry at herself for allowing a single look from Spencer to affect her emotions, especially since they’d only seen each other a handful of times.
She shut her eyes and took a deep breath. Her tone was as icy as could be as she repeated, “Let me go!”
No one dared to make a sound when they saw Spencer’s expression getting sourer by the second. Just as they thought he was about to explode, they heard him say gently, “Be good and stop clenching your fist. You’ll hurt yourself.”
As he spoke, he made Lucille loosen her clenched fist. Her eyes flew open when she felt him pry her left fist open.
Ethan and the others were dumbstruck when they heard Spencer’s gentle yet helpless tone. Was he really the cold and ruthless Spencer they knew?
Once Lucille unclenched her fist, they saw the cut on her palm. Droplets of blood oozed out as soon as the wound came into view.
A trace of heartache flashed in Spencer’s eyes. He said, “Luke!”
Lucas immediately said, “Take her to the hospital. I don’t have a first–aid kit with me.”
Lucille was still in a daze from Spencer’s gentle tone when she was swept off her feet. “You-*

“Be good. Let me take you to the hospital,” Spencer said. He cut her off before she could say anything else. As he strode off, he said, “Deal with this, Mack.”
“Yes, boss.”
And so, Lucille stared at Spencer as he carried her into and out of the car. Anyone who wasn’t in the know would think she was seriously injured.
Lucille was brought to the emergency room. She gasped when the disinfectant stung her wound. She was actually quite averse to pain.
Lucas had been focused on tending to the wound. At Lucille’s gasp, Spencer glared daggers at him. Then, Spencer stepped forward and pressed Lucille’s head to his abdomen. He rubbed the back of her head soothingly.
She’d yet to realize what was happening when he said, “Do you know what you’re doing?”
He was starting to doubt Lucas‘ skills. The latter stopped and looked up at him. He held up the disinfectant and said huffily, “How about you do it, then?”
Spencer fell silent. He wouldn’t need Lucas to handle the situation if he knew anything about first–aid. “You do it!”
Ethan and Zachary arrived just in time to hear the conversation. Their lips twitched. Had Spencer actually doubted Lucas‘ skills?
Who was he kidding? Lucas was known for being something of a miracle doctor, and he was the youngest dean in Central Hospital’s history. He was renowned for his surgical prowess! Yet Spencer had doubted whether he knew how to tend to a simple cut?
They looked at Lucille, who was still in Spencer’s arms. The situation was clear now- Spencer had lost control of his rationality for once in his life.
Lucas ignored Spencer and continued tending to Lucille’s wound. Soon, he realized. something was amiss.
