Chapter 31 - Tricks
Teegan’s P.O.V.
We all keep looking at the vehicle following us, and then I get an idea. I don’t want any distractions while we’re trying to help others, and these people are an annoyance.
“Let’s pull over and get gas,” I tell the others. Joel looks at me, confused.
“Why? We have more than half a tank.” He says.
“I’m tired of them following us, waiting for them to do something,” I explain.
“What do you have in mind?” Joel questions me. I smile and lean back in my seat.
“Let’s go to the gas station and get gas. Once we see where they park, we get off the bus, and only one person continues driving. The rest of us will hide and shift into our wolves. I’m sure they want to cause an accident, so whoever remains on the bus needs to be able to jump out before it’s too late. I know it’s risky, but while they’re celebrating, we come up behind them. What do you think?” I look around at the others, and they’re all smiling.
“No one needs to drive the bus. I can make it go so they think someone’s on it; that way, we don’t have to risk anyone’s life.” I look at Petra in awe.
“You can do that?” She smiles and shrugs.
“Watch. Stop driving.” She says. The guard driving stands up, and the bus continues to go down the highway as though he’s still in the driver’s seat.
“Wow. That’s impressive. So what do you all think?” I look around, and Joel pulls out his phone.
“I’m going to make arrangements for another minibus. After dealing with these fools, we can return to the gas station and continue our trip.” Joel clicks a few things on his phone and then sighs.
“Okay, I have another minibus, but it will be a while before it can be here.” He tells us.
“I have an idea.” We all look at Petra expectantly.
“We have the bus go over the edge, but it won’t actually be damaged. It will only appear to be to those men. I still don’t want anyone in it, just in case this doesn’t work. I’m going to put a protection shield around it. I’ll make flames appear when it goes down but then bring the bus back up to the road. What do you think?” We’re all speechless.
“I think you’re the most amazing woman I have ever met,” I answer her truthfully. Anton turns her toward him and kisses her passionately, making her face turn bright red. Yeah, I get it, big brother; she’s a freaking rockstar.
We get off the highway and pull into the only gas station we see when we reach a relatively remote area. There are a few people there, but not enough for us to change our plans. The guard pulls up to a pump that will allow us to get off the bus without being seen. While he pumps gas, we get out the other side. The guard then gets on the bus and gets out the other side. We’re all hiding in the trees behind the gas station. When the guard joins us, we remove our clothes and shift into wolves.
I watch in fascination as the bus begins to move. Petra’s wolf is glowing a soft white color. The SUV follows behind the bus, and we run along in the trees. They get closer and closer to the bus when the road starts twisting. When they hit the bus the first time, Petra’s glowing gets even brighter.
When they push the bus over the edge, the men don’t look over immediately. If they did, they would see it never actually lands before flames appear. While the eight men from the SUV are looking at the fire, the minibus suddenly comes up from the ravine and lands on the road. The seventeen of us are circled around them when they turn around. Joel is the only one who shifts back to human so he can speak to the men.
“Would you like to explain why you tried to kill us?” Joel asks them while rubbing Mia’s head. She had carried his clothes because she didn’t want the other women looking at what was ours. I wasn’t worried about it, but I didn’t really want any comments from Martina.
“How are you alive? We saw the bus burning. How did it get up here?” The man who appears to be in charge asks. All of them are disgusting-looking, with greasy hair and covered in filth.
“I asked you a question. Why are you trying to kill us?” Joel insists.
“You’re looking into things that are none of your business. If you don’t want to die, I suggest you return to the palace and let us continue doing what we’re doing.” The man looks at all of us with a smirk and then turns to his men. They shift into mangy-looking wolves. They’re acting like a pack, but they look like rogues.
“You’re outnumbered, and several of us are lycans. You don’t scare us. We have eliminated other packs, and we can eliminate yours as well. What are you using the pups for?” Joel asks him.
“I’m Blake, the alpha of the Blood Fangs. We are the most ruthless pack in the country. I know what you did to my sister and her pack, so I’m going to make you suffer for that. Before you die, I’ll let you watch me rape your mate so you know my dick is the last thing she ever feels.” He looks toward Mia and blows her a kiss before laughing. I can feel the rage in Joel, but he keeps his cool.
“That’s where you’re wrong. You’re not going to get the chance to do anything.” Joel looks toward Petra’s wolf and nods. Suddenly, one of the wolves behind Blake begins crying in pain as it lies on the ground. As we watch, its bones start breaking, and the howls of pain get louder.
“What the fuck are you doing?” Blake screams at Joel.
“His bones are breaking, and they won’t heal, so he’ll be dead soon.” The wolf tries to walk but can’t stand up. Blake walks over and kicks him off the side of the cliff.
“He was weak anyway. You still won’t beat us.” He yells. Petra’s wolf steps forward and shifts from wolf to human. How is she fully clothed?
“Let’s show him how wrong he is. Shall we?” Joel says, looking at Petra. She smiles and nods, walking in front of our group. Raising her hands, she begins glowing a bright red. Blake’s eyes widen, and he steps back. The six wolves behind him all suddenly burst into flames, and then a large gust of wind blows them over the edge as they howl in pain. Blake is the only one remaining.
“Now, what were you saying?” Joel asks.
“You can’t do this. I’m an alpha.” He yells, but he doesn’t sound as sure of himself. Suddenly, a large grey wolf comes from behind me. I’m not sure who it is because I don’t know the other’s scents yet. When the wolf shifts, I see it’s Scott.
“This bastard is the one who sold me to another pack to be tortured. Please tell me that whatever you have planned for him it’s painful.” Scott says, shaking with anger.
“Where’s his pack?” Joel asks, sliding between Mia and Scott.
“It’s near St. Louis, Missouri. They’re a bunch of rogues who came together to make their own pack. They all believe in torture and causing anyone who’s not a rogue as much pain as possible.” Joel looks at me, and I nod. I think we need to pay Blake’s pack a visit.
“We’re going to re-route and pay a visit to the Blood Fangs. Petra, can you subdue this asshole?” Before Joel can finish speaking, Scott wraps his arm around Blake’s neck and cuts off his air until he passes out. He then tosses the man to the ground. However, as I look through Mia’s eyes, I’m not looking at Blake; I’m looking at Scott. Maybe there’s something to Martina’s theory about men’s penis size according to rank. If that’s true, warriors have some mighty swords.
