Chapter Faking Witness
Harrison’s POV
“Dear diary,
I’ve done something that I clearly thought wasn’t possible anymore. I’ve bonded with that girl. Turned out she knew more than I knew about the outside world. The world people thought was only in myths. I asked her about her family members. But none seems to want to see her. I asked her why she was here. First, she said nothing but later she replied that she was here because she needed protection.
I didn’t understand what kind of protection an asylum could give her. But then she exclaimed more like when you act as an abnormal nobody believes you. This world we both know about needs to be hidden for some reason. Other creatures will always look for people like us. So we needed to be protected.
But I wasn’t protected here. For months I was sacred. I don’t know how much time has passed since I came here. Maybe it’s a year and a half. Zach came and slowly made me believe that I was mad. He beat me, mocked me, made me rip numerous nurses souls. People kept getting disappear and cops were getting crazy trying to find who was killing them. I did it. But I didn't have any choice in that matter. Without taking a soul, I would've died. Funny thing is, I wanted to die. I came so close to taking my life but every time either Zach or Samara stopped me. It would've been a good thing if he did that because he cared for me. But no. He told me he saved me because I didn't deserve to die. Only he was the one to decide when I would take my last breath.
So he taught me spells. He made me the monster I am.
Today someone had come to meet the girl, maybe a family. He was as arrogant as anyone can get. He came and told the girl that he’ll get her out of there. But the entire time he didn’t even notice that I was seated there next to them. It didn’t mean I cared any less but even in school people always glanced if I was there. That asshole didn’t even introduce him. Later she told me that it was Danny who put her in that asylum which she hated and now wants her out.
I’ve seen their auras. When her aura was pure, his aura was dark golden. It didn’t make any sense. How can anyone’s aura be this golden? He somehow made me angry. Yes, I was pretty angry at everyone but he was... Like I wanted to rip his soul out and hear the pleasure of screams. It was a horrible imagination but I felt...different.
Later I’ve had taken the soul of the manager. I always took souls on weekly basis. It helps me stay stronger. But this time I didn’t have the same pleasure I usually get. It was almost like eating a boring meal you don’t even care about. And it made me afraid, a lot. I don’t want to get weak. I don’t want to become that sweet high school girl, I want to stay the strongest Reaper anyone has ever known cause this is my life now.”
I closed the diary and glanced out of the window. It is no longer that I’ll be in New York. The scenery before me almost reminded me of a normal life if it wasn’t Dalton sitting beside me looking as smug anyone can.
This was my last day of vacation. Dalton was coming with me as a witness. He’d give his so-called explanation to the polices and if needed he’ll use his power to manipulate them into thinking everything he wants.
As for Aaron, he is still in Tennessee. Dalton has bound him into his house. If anything happens to him again, like the recent possession he’ll let me know. I wasn’t too happy to leave him there. He was my only friend and he didn’t know a thing about our world. So it was selfish of me to leave him at Dalton’s clan’s mercy. But as per Dalton when people get possessed there’s nothing we can do but wait or in my case bind them to the basement.
“So, reading some recent hit novella?” Dalton asked casually but even I knew he was pushing me or trying to influence me which I hated.
“You know it’s not a novella,” I replied with coldness. This guy always gives me chills.
“C’mon now! We’ve got past the trust issues. You can tell me about the girl.” He all but chirped but I knew he was too curious for my own good.
“There’s no girl,” I replied bluntly.
“But I thought there was one when we first met?” He grinned.
Thankfully it was time for landing only then he stopped asking questions.
When we reached the station; it was another history. Every people were in a trance even Mr. Bull. Dalton was giving his statement but as if no one really cared what he said. Right now if he said he was dead then no one would be shocked. I hadn’t planned that. The report was already ready. The incidents that happened in NY a year and a half ago was an accident. The fire in the hospital was because of electrical problems and the witness was already dead so there wasn’t any suspect anymore. But was it true after all?
Can I really move on with my life knowing I lied to the people I swore to protect?
Amy’s POV
I was in Norcia, Italy. How did I manage to come here, that was a tell to say another day. I didn’t know how to describe the nature in front of me. The whole place was full of circling powers. A place of true witches. I wasn’t a witch even if my bloodline was from witches. I’ve become a Reaper because of my mother. In the way, I’ve heard about my sister’s disappearing. Everyone believes she is dead then why can’t I? This part of the town wasn’t a good place for me. The anchor of the witches hates Reapers, they think of us as cursed, tainted. And they wouldn’t be too happy to let me stay. But I didn’t care.
I wish Danny was with me. He would know what to do in this situations. He was more clever than me. He would put up any act and no one will realize. And he was honest, brave and could put up with me. That’s what drawn me to him. When he first realized who I was, he didn’t run away. He didn’t even feel scared. Yes... He insulted me, said I was a disgusting creature. It made me angry, I tried to take his soul too. But he was immune to me. And then he helped me, I saw past him, he was so much like me, pure yet hated. We both were an angel in a monster's clothing. Then he was gone. Like he never existed.
“Che cosa stai facendo qui? In questo luogo sacro di vero streghe? Rispondere a me!”
I was startled by the sudden commotion. There was a young girl shouting at me. But her aura...oh! Her aura reveals she must be hundred years old. She was a true witch too. And I was in trouble.
“I am sorry, what?" I fake whispered.
“So...you are not from here I guess?” She was cooling down but still glared at me. She had heavy Italian accent so she must be from here.
“I know you’re a witch and I don’t want any trouble,” I said as firmly showing her my hands as submission.
“Then why are you here? The last one who came brought hell with her.” I didn’t need to tell who the last one was.
“But if I said I can help?” I replied coldly.
“Help with what exactly?” She was fuming now.
“If I said...I could help Hannah?”
“You know Hannah?" She asked surprised. Well...that’s what the boy told me.
As in cue, a woman in her late forties ran towards me as if she was in shock. Her long ebony hair was a great contrast with her oval face. Her mismatched eyes held so many emotions that I almost wanted to hug her.
“How...could that be? How did you...?" Then she stopped and looked away. "You’re not Keira, are you?” She sadly asked.
I've found Hannah.
“No, I'm not." She looked at me again with pain. It was gone though the moment she heard my next words. "But what if I can bring her back?” Looking at their faces I know by now I was staying in Norcia.
For a long time.
Stranger’s POV
There would be no time I’ll get the happy news I’m waiting for. I just hope that everything goes by my plan.
“Domine nuntio rediit.”
Finally...
"Dicens: Reduc eum.”
"Domine mi, ne simul et cum modico suades seaker fore. Quo enim fugerunt scietis quia tergum metentis, et non necabo.”
"Tu certus?”
“Mea vita”
I dismissed him. There will be no time that I’ll return. I just have to start celebration and meet the one person who started it all.
