Chapter 99 Is James Sick Again?
Will first gave Zoey a basic examination to make sure that she was in good health. He turned to look at Kara, who was standing straight with his back straight and tense. He felt a little sympathetic for her. Kara depended on others for a living and she was thin and timid.
Without James protecting her, she might be suffered.
"It's getting late. Madam Hemming, I'm leaving now. I will send Kara back. Is that OK?"
Zoey looked outside the window and said with a smile, "It's time for you to leave. I heard that you are going to take the college entrance examination soon. You should spend more time on study. I can't waste your time."
Zoey turned and waved at Kara. She patted Kara's hand and said, "Kara, come to visit me when you have time after the college entrance examination."
"Thank you, Great Grandma." Kara wore a wooden smile.
When she went out of the Hemming's with Will and arriving at James's villa, Kara breathed a sigh of relief with a pale face.
"Don't be afraid. There is no hungry wolf in the Hemming's."
Kara looked weak, and Will couldn't help but chuckle.
"Wolves are ferocious animals. If I don't provoke them, they won't easily attack me. However, Madam Hemming kept saying things which supposed to mean something. I really can't get along with scheming people like I'm acting in a palace drama."
Zoey wore a kind smile on her face, but she was like the Empress Dowager in the drama.
It was more than a dinner. It was clearly an ambush!
"Go sit down. I'll check on you." Will didn't want to talk more about this topic.
Because from the moment James took her in, she had been involved with the "drama". She would have to face it sooner or later.
Libby was happy to see Kara. When she went to fetch a glass of water for will, she took the opportunity to report to James.
Will gave Kara a check-up and gave Libby some notes before he left.
At night, Kara and James had a video call.
James first helped her with her studies. After that, he tried to ask her about what happened in the Hemming's at night, but Kara avoided the topic.
It was completely normal for Zoey to be alert that a young girl lived in James's villa.
Kara did not want to think too much about it. She only wanted to focus on studies and get into University A.
Seeing that she was unwilling to say more, James did not force her. He asked her to study hard. When he returned to the country, he would check on her results.
Kara nodded. She did not dare to slack off in the slightest regarding her studies.
However, she had a nightmare in the evening. In the nightmare, she did not get into University A. James and Kathleen were engaged and Kathleen lived in the villa. And Kathleen didn't like her and drove her out of the villa.
She left James's villa and wandered the streets. On a night when it thundered, she was taken away by the demon.
Because of this nightmare, Kara was not in a good mood.
When she think of that terrifying dream, she did not dare to cry, nor did she hoped anyone would help her. She decided to become stronger so that she would not be bullied.
James returned to the country late at night, and he went to Kara's room for the first time.
As he approached the bed and saw Kara's pale face under the faint moonlight, he frowned.
"Kara, did you miss me?" he wondered.
During the time he left, he missed her every moment.
He was worried that she was tired from studying and would have nightmares at night. He also paid attention to the weather in the country every day. He hoped it wouldn't rain or thunder. Otherwise, Kara would hide in her bed and cry in fear.
The next morning, Kara washed up and went to the exercise room. Just as she was about to run on a treadmill, she saw a familiar figure. She widened her eyes in surprise, wondering if it was her illusion. "I'm not in a dream, am I?"
She ran to him and poked his face.
It was warm. He was real!
She jumped up in surprise. She put on a bright smile in the morning sunshine.
"Uncle James, when did you come back?"
James hold her hands and rubbed her head. He teased, "I ran out of your dream."
Kara didn't speak. She stared at James without blinking.
Fortunately, it was not a dream. She was about to cry, but she felt that it was shameful to cry in front of him since she had grown up.
She lowered her head to hide her expression and bumped his chest with her forehead.
He felt that Kara rubbed his chest like a little kitten and immediately left. He just wanted to hold her tight.
"How have you been practicing recently? Show me."
"I will win you this time."
Kara raised a smile, and her melancholy was driven away by the movement.
Time flew by, and the college entrance examination was coming.
Kara had been preparing for three months. She was suffering from insomnia the night before the college entrance examination.
After lying on the bed for two hours, she got up to change into a sports outfit with a heavy head.
He went downstairs to the outside of the villa. Enjoying the cool night breeze, she sobered up a little.
She walked along the path. She sat on a wooden chair by the roadside and looked up at the stars in the sky.
She wondered if her parents became stars in the sky. She missed them so much.
"Dad, Mom, I will be taking the college entrance examination tomorrow, but I am a little scared."
"Why are you scared?"
"I'm afraid that if I don't accomplish anything, I will forever be stepped on by others." Kara realized something was wrong and jumped up in shock.
Who was talking to her?
"Little fool, you can't recognize my voice?"
A pair of big hands covered her eyes and she was just about to resist when she heard James's voice.
"Uncle James, you haven't slept either." She felt a little guilty.
"You don't sleep in the middle of the night but come out to see the stars?"
James let go of her. He sit on the wooden chair and looked up at the sky as she did.
"Yes, Uncle James, don't you think the moon is beautiful?"
James raised his eyebrows and did not look at the moon. Instead, he stared at Kara's adorable face.
He didn't know how beautiful the moon was, but he knew that her fair and delicate face was brilliant. He glanced at her moist and pink lips and he calmly looked away. "What is the relationship between the moon and your college entrance examination?" he asked.
Words failed Kara.
Well, if she kept looking at the moon, she would lose her spirit tomorrow and failed the college entrance examination.
She sighed helplessly and turned to leave, but James held her wrist.
"I'm going back to sleep, Uncle James."
"Can you fall asleep?" He stared at her.
Kara was speechless. She couldn't tell.
Kara sat down beside him. It was all quiet.
The night wind blew, and it was slightly cold.
She felt something on her shoulder. She turned around in surprise. James was covering her shoulders and back with his coat.
"Uncle James, you have to work tomorrow. Why don't you go to sleep first?"
She felt sorry to have him stay late with her, but she might not be able to sleep, so she might as well sit here for a while.
"Let's sleep together," he suddenly said.
"What?" She was shocked, her amber eyes flashing with vigilance.
"Uncle James, I, I'm not sleepy yet."
"Little fool, what are you thinking about?" He put on a smile as he tapped on her forehead.
"If we share a bed, I can help you fall asleep. Do you want to try?"
Kara bit her lips. She had never questioned James's words.
But his tone was strange, and she suddenly felt a little scared.
She wondered, "Was Uncle James sick again?"
