Twice Blessed ~ Matthew’s Story

Chapter 8 ~ Who’s Worried Now, Bitches!?

Ella’s POV ~

I woke up this morning with the worst migraine I have ever had. A sick headache that had me nauseous. Danny told me to go home.. so I texted Matthew, asking for a ride, but I have yet to hear back.

I sent a second text, letting him know I was going to my house to lie down. My head had reached nuclear implosion stage, and I just wanted to sleep it off.

The last four weeks have been hectic.. and nonstop. Jolene is such an extreme ball of energy, that anyone close enough gets caught up in it. She has everything ready for the party.. and is still pushing for the Luna ceremony. I am reticent.. I worry Matthew will turn out not being my mate, and I will be devastated.

I reached my house.. with still no response from Matthew, so I went inside and dropped a pod in my Keurig.. while my coffee brewed, I grabbed a quick, hot shower. Bringing my coffee up to my room, I relaxed against my pillows.. until I felt my eyes getting heavy.

I slept quite a while.. the sun was low in the sky, when I opened my eyes. I stretched and realized my head had eased off.. when a shy voice sounded in my head 🐺 Hello? I said hello back and asked where they were. A giggle in my brain and 🐺 I’m in here, silly! In your soul! I’m Abalone..

I asked “Like a shell? You’re a shell?” Another giggle 🐺 A what? I’m a wolf. Not a shell? Did I get a defective human? Just my luck! Two hundred years without a vessel and Goddess gives me to a broken one.

I sneered “I’m not broken, you twit! Maybe it’s you! Maybe you’re defective. I didn’t even know I had a wolf and now you insult me!” Abalone laughed.. 🐺 Whoa there, feisty pants! Let’s start over. Hi there! My name is Abalone.. not a shell! I am your wolf. I have always been with you.. just couldn’t speak, until now. A little heads up? You should probably get used to speaking with me in your head.. walking around, talking out loud like you’re doing.. will prove to everyone you really are defective.

I said “Stop that! You’re starting to piss me off.. “ Abalone says 🐺 Inside your head.. not out loud, crazy britches! UGHHH! I closed my eyes and just thought what I wanted to say. With my eyes closed, I could see her. She was beautiful.. all silver, with shocking blue eyes. Her ears, paws and tail all looked like they had been dipped in black ink. She heard my thoughts, and wagged her tail.

I got up.. deciding I am hungry. I had forgotten my phone downstairs, but when I checked it, there was still no answer from Matthew. I texted Maverick, asking if everything was okay. This was unusual.. and I had just been hit with a feeling of impending doom.

I set about fixing some scrambled eggs and toast.. thinking I really needed to get a car. I called Jolene.. and she didn’t answer either. I was getting worried.. this is so out of the ordinary.

I sat down.. closing my eyes, and released my aura.. searching around me for the vibrations of human activity.. finding nothing out of the ordinary. Until I felt a sharp pain down my left leg. It was so excruciating I hit my knees. My breathing got shallow.. tears ran down my face.. then, it passed, as if nothing had happened. What the fuck was that!?

I tried taking my mind off whatever was going on with Matthew. I cleaned my little house. I was actually in love with it now. The guys had replaced all my windows and doors with new ones. We had new hardwood flooring put in.. Jolene and I had refurnished it, with odds and ends of things they had stored away.

Matthew had replaced the roof and built beautiful new porches.. front and back. I painted it white, with light gray shutters.. It was a home, now. I had just thrown my bedsheets in the dryer, when Abalone said 🐺 Someone outside. Can hear them trying to sneak through the woods out back.

I tuned my hearing in the direction she’d heard the noise.. realizing my hearing and vision had intensified. I listened carefully.. and could pick up three separate breathing patterns and heartbeats.

Okay. So three people were sneaking my direction. I ran to my closet and holstered my pistol.. grabbed several knives.. and my bow. I ran to Fred’s room.. opened his window.. I climbed out onto the landing. I snuck around the dormer window, and settled into position.

Three men broke through the wood line behind the house. I watched them stealthily winding their way.. surrounding the back of my house. Abalone said 🐺 Amateurs.. the lot of them! Just kill them.. I’m tired again.

I rolled my eyes. I got a snarky wolf! Fun! One of the men said “I don’t think she’s here.. The place looks empty.” Another one said “Where would she be? She wasn’t at the diner. Our guys have kept that Alpha and his pack busy all day.. She has to be here!”

The first one broke away, and was sneaking toward the front of the house.. once he was clear of the other two, I threw a hunting knife.. needing the added weight of it to throw true. It lodged in the base of his neck.. severing his brain stem. He dropped immediately.

One of the others asked “What was that? Did you hear anything?” The second one responded “I think I hear a dryer. So, someone has to be here.”

I knew I wasn’t going to let them inside my house.. So, I did what my brain was saying don’t do.. I ran.. and flipped off the roof. Landing behind them, I said “Hello boys! Looks like a good night to die.. doesn’t it!?”

The guy on the porch snarled and charged me. I jumped up and kicked him in the jaw.. and landing, spun out into a roundhouse.. kicking him on the other side of his face.

The second man tried to get to me.. and I kicked him in the balls. Street fighting at its finest! I hatchet kicked the first guy and felt his neck snap. Two down. The one I kicked was just getting back up when I punched him in the temple.. knocking him out.

I dragged his heavy ass up to the porch.. then I groaned to myself. Abalone said 🐺 Sure didn’t think this through! Both doors are locked. We went out the window on the second floor.. and the keys are inside. See!? Defective! I growled “Shut up! I need to think…”

I ran to the shed and found some clothesline rope.. back on the porch, I tied bad guy number three up.. and ran to the side of the house.. Climbed the oak tree and made it back through the window. My wolf grinned 🐺 Nicely done! I take it back..

I dragged the asshole in the kitchen and tied him to a chair. Going in search of my phone.. I could hear it vibrating. I found it.. twenty missed calls and twice as many text messages.

Yeah! Hah! Who’s worried now, bitches!?
