Twice Blessed ~ Matthew’s Story

Ella’s POV ~

I don’t know how much good I am doing Matthew and his pack. I have identified five people that are dark.. and are harboring ill intent.. I don’t believe those five are acting alone.. and whomever they are working with, are not In the pack, I think.

Maverick is driving me to the pack house for dinner night.. I find myself gravitating toward Matthew, more and more. I keep reminding myself he has a mate out there.. so my heart has to butt out.

Maverick tells me “Luna Jolene has the results of your DNA test. She’s asked we go straight to the office on arrival.” I laugh and ask “Why does it always feel like I am headed to the principal’s office whenever I’m asked to go straight to Matthew’s office?”

Maverick laughs and says “Because that is exactly how it feels! When we were kids, and Blake would send for us.. it was literally like marching to our doom!”

I followed Mav straight to the office, and I sat, across from Matthew. Jolene smiles at me “You, my dear.. are a pleasant surprise. Your DNA is interesting. You are most definitely not human.. neither is your mother.. or your father.”

I asked “Explain, please? I know I didn’t care before.. but now that you know.. I am finding myself most curious. It took so long for the results to come back.. I just assumed nothing would come of it.”

Jolene said “Your mother’s lineage was the first to be decoded. She is.. was?.. a by-blow of an Alpha, before he found his mate.. The new Luna demanded his bastard child be banished from the pack.. she was given to a human family to adopt. They were given express directions to make sure she took medication twice a day, for the rest of her life.. That medication was wolfsbane concentrate. They muted her wolf.. and she was never to be told about it. Whether she ever shifted or not, I don’t know.”

I was shocked. I was speechless. I didn’t have a single coherent thought in my brain, for a few minutes. Then I said “I am a wolf? I don’t have a wolf.. wouldn’t I know if I had a wolf? What the fuck?! This is crazy!”

Matthew whispered “Take my hand.” And I did.. I clung to his hand like it was my lifeline in violent seas. He said “You are close to your eighteenth birthday.. you have what.. about nine weeks? Two weeks before your birthday.. if you have a wolf.. she will start making her presence known.. if you’re going to shift, it will happen the night of your birthday.”

Jolene said “We have found nothing on your mother for the last five and a half years. It’s like she ceased to exist.” I responded “She ran off with a big brutish type. Called him Tommy. Big as he was, he could have been a wolf. Fred had been drunk for a solid week.. they got into screaming matches.. physical altercations .. nearly every night. The night before she left, he beat her pretty badly. I was thirteen.. and my memory isn’t really clear. I was afraid of Fred, back then.”

Jolene nods and tells me “That’s understandable.. Now, as for your father’s DNA.. and this is where you are so very special, honey! Your biological father is one of the true oracles of fate.. Because you are a female.. you are a truth seer.. Able to predict the future.. as well as see into a person’s past. You can sense danger.. recognize evil in others. You are a gift.. A very special gift!”

Blake said “I would love it, if you came to stay at the pack house.. at least, until your shift. Matthew and Jolene can also help you hone your gifts.. that is, if you want to.”

I knew this was huge.. I also knew I needed help, if I was going to understand everything about myself. I replied “I will need a few days.. I have to let Danny know.. and pack up a few things.. Tell Fred he has to move out.. Once I have all that taken care of, I will come stay for a month or so.”

Matthew stood and said “I would like to do dinner differently tonight.. if that’s okay with you?” I shrugged and nodded.. he reached his hand out and I took it, as he lead me out of the office.

Laughing, I said “This is rapidly becoming your thing.. The ‘take my hand’ thing?” He grinned “I started it as a way to calm you down.. It is one of my gifts.. but it became habit.. so, now, I think of it as ‘Our’ thing.. I use it with no one else.. it only matters with you.”

So that set my heart to fluttering.. like a thousand butterfly wings.. beating a tattoo of a million beats. Why, though? I am trying to protect my heart.. and he seems hellbent on running away with it!

He led me to the gazebo in the back garden, and had a table set up with our dinner.. he had wine chilling.. candlelight.. and I teased “Is this a date?” He laughed and told me “If you want to call it that.. I wanted a quiet place to talk.. and thought we might enjoy a nice dinner.”

I asked what he wanted to talk about.. and he started getting nervous.. fidgeting.. I whispered “Take my hand.” He did.. and a huge smile broke across his face.

He said “I want to talk with you.. about mates. As wolves, our mate is the most important being in our world. They quickly become our everything.” I nodded, and told him “I know about mates. As a little girl, I used to wish for a mate of my own. To have one person belong solely to me. To love me.. and teach me what it means to be loved. Oh! Ohhh! If I have a wolf.. I will have a mate!”

He smiled and responded “Ella.. I believe you are MY mate. All the signs are there for me.. Your scent.. your touch sends sparks shooting through me.. Frost is totally convinced you are. But, we won’t know before your birthday. But.. already, I am feeling your emotions. That’s how I know to calm you down.”

My entire body infused with warmth. That would explain the pull I feel.. the constant thinking about him.. wanting to hear him.. see him.. touch him. Makes perfect sense now.

I smiled “Then we wait and see..and I will pray. A lot! Every morning, noon and night.” Making him laugh.. he promised “I will do the same.. but my heart already knows!”
