Chapter 9: The Trials of Shopping
She was fighting it hard but everytime he smiled or said her name she melted a little. Heat ran through her and her breath caught in her throat. Her legs squirmed together. Liquid pooled in her lower belly. She was attracted. To all of them. She was losing the fight. Could feel her resolve slip.
William caught the look of heat in her eyes. Surrender sugar. Say yes and recite the words. His wolf rose to his feet and pushed at hers. Be ours. Hers shied away. His sighed and collapsed back down. Patience in his eyes. Patience in William's eyes. She would succumb. It will take longer than it had for Mother. But she will succumb. He opened her door and let her lead the way into the spralling building.
She was overwhelmed. The automatic doors opened and music from loudspeakers over head hurt her ears. She cringed and put her hands to her ears. William acted immediately. His arm around her shoulder. A hand on her arm to guide her into a store with softer music the speakers turned low. "Adjust, sugar. Take your time." He said gently.
He nodded to a couple watching curiously. "My girl just go new implants. Deaf for years. They are little too high." He said in explanation. The couple nodded and moved on. Alexandria shot him a look of disgust. "Logical. Better?" She nodded lowering her hands. "Good." He took her hand and led her back out and down the main walking area. They came to a three way split. And he kept straight.
"Where are you leading me?" She asked. Her hand in his felt really good. He was so warm. His hand engulfed hers completely. This was the first time they had touched. Really touched. Warmth spread up her arm her blood heating. She tried to push the pleasant feeling away but her wolf whimpered. This is right.
"Lingerie. That bra does not fit correctly. One bra and panty set to start. Quincy will be bringing you back tomorrow and Rick will have Monday." William replied. "Rinse and repeat. When you get used to the three of us separately we will come together. For now one at a time seems to work." He was enjoying the feel of her fragile hand in his. When he had put his hand on her arm to guide her he could feel the bone underneath. She did not have much muscle. Half starved her whole life. They would hit the food court after the lingerie.
He turned into Victoria's and she stopped short her mouth falling open. Manikins with bra and panty sets on other sexy apparel that made her very uncomfortable. Nothing she had learned in the facility had prepared her. "Are you okay?" He asked. The look of shock and almost disgust on her face made him rethink this.
"Hello. It can be overwhelming to young ladies unfamiliar." A pleasant woman walked up. "Come with me, honey. I will get you set up in a private place. You boyfriend?"
"Yes. She is shy and modest." William said pushing Alexandria forward. "Marissa, Alexandria." He said reading the name tag of the sales clerk. "She will need to be sized and fitted. One bra and pantie set. Whatever colors she wants." Then asked. "Will you be working tomorrow by chance?"
"Uh yeah," Marissa stuttered. This hunk had that? What the hell did I do wrong? She was staring so intently at William she forgot what she was about. Alexandria felt jealousy hit her hard in the gut. The pretty blonde girl with longish hair and pretty makeup made her feel so insignificant.
"Just checking. She will be back tomorrow." William replied with a smile. The girl stumbled. Alexandria growled. Mine, bitch. She was shocked at the ferocity of her possessiveness. William raised his brows and then grinned at Alexandria. "Easy, sugar. I will stop." He returned his light green gaze to Marissa. "I am sorry." He stepped back and let the human and his mate lead the way. She wanted them. Perhaps she won't be so difficult after all.
In the changing room Marissa took Alexandria's measurements and asked what type she liked best. Alexandria just shook her head. It meant nothing to her. "I will bring one of each and we can go from there." Marissa opened the heavy door to exit then paused. "Is he really your boyfriend?"
"Yes I am," He answered from his chair by the door. "What have you decided, sugar?"
"What is your preference?" Alexandria replied. "I am out of my depth here."
"I take them off, not wear them." William chuckled. Marissa eyes bugged at the sound. Alexandria melted damn near to the floor. It was no fair that he had such an effect on her when he was over there cool as a cucumber. "Take your time. We are in no rush. Comfort is key." He settled back in his chair and picked up a magazine.
Marissa's kindness and patience helped her to relax. After thirty minutes she decided she liked the pushup with no underwire and racerback. Marissa found the matching panties. Cheeky style was Alexandria's preference. Yellow, blue, black, red, and white. Tie-dyed with all those colors. Marissa had never seen anyone with so many favorite colors before.
As Alexandria and William left the shop. "You could have just chosen one color. She had a hell of a time finding all those colors on one set." William said. She looked better now that she had a proper fitting bra.
"Why would I do that?" She asked shrugging her shoulders.
"Because those are also the colors that our rooms are decorated in. I said your favorite colors. Not ours. You are the one wearing these things. They should reflect you." William clarified.
"I don't know." She finally said. "I don't know what my favorite color is alright. I never had a choice before and I panicked." She felt tears prick her eyes. She had her whole life's perception turned on its head. She had no idea who she was. And now she had three males that would try and tell her who she was supposed to be.
"I am sorry," he said softly as his arm slid around her waist. "This is new to me too. I am used to females who know their minds. Think about it. Quincy will be bringing you back tomorrow." He led the way to the food court. "What do you want for lunch?" She looked at the different restaurant logos. She had no fucking idea. Panic rose up in her. She tried to pull away from him. To run. This was too much. "Easy, sugar." William tightened his hold on her. "Okay. What type of food are you familiar with?"
"Burgers." She replied simply. Her eyes downcast. Her posture now submissive. This was too much. He was literally walking her through everything like a child.
"Excellent." William led her to the Mcdonald's and up to the counter. "What type of burger, sugar?" He asked as he tried to get her to look at the menu.
"Cheeseburger. Fries. Milk." She said haltingly. Remembering her favorite day. Thursday. He repeated the order but instead of milk asked for a milkshake. Vanilla. Then added a double quarter pounder. Large fry. And large mango smoothie. He paid and they took their seats nearby to wait for their food. "Why is that so easy for you?"
"I have been doing it all my life. Mom would bring us to town once a week. Usually to the one that had the playplace so we could run ourselves ragged while she did some work or just watched us. I think she did not have much freedom in her childhood and so wanted to make sure we did. That we got to enjoy it before we became Alphas and took on the responsibilities therein." William said then caught the eye of the man that had their food. He smiled and shifted the tray between them. He pulled a small ketchup bottle from a bag and proceeded to drown his fries.
"You carry a ketchup bottle in a bag," Alexandria asked. Laughing. So he was a little strange too.
"Yes. As my mother says I like my plate to look like a murder scene." William replied then handed her the bottle. She poured some on hers and handed it back. He replaced the bottle in the bag and proceeded to eat.
She carefully unwrapped the burger. It was the same size as the ones they served at the facility. She suddenly felt homesick and alone. She was supposed to be strong but in face of the mission she was weak. In the field she was unprepared and disillusioned. She had been praised for being the best. When in fact she was mediocre at best. This was not what she had been prepared for. William was intense. Had been from the start. But being alone with him proved just how intense. He was tender but firm. Expecting obedience but comforting if she was having trouble. As with the loudspeakers. The lingerie. The ordering. Guiding her without pushing. Allowed her to make her own decisions.
William sensed the turmoil in her. She was trying to resist. Still denying what she felt. She had not touched her burger or her fries. He touched her hand gently. "Talk to me, sugar." He said gently. "I may not be as good at it as Rick, or make you laugh it off like Quincy but I do listen and try to help."
She pulled her hand back. Her defenses were crumbling. Her world was in tatters. He wanted her to talk about it? What could she possibly say? "How do I even begin?" She asked in a small voice. It was not a soft whisper as his mother's but high and clear. Like a bell.
"Start with the burger." William replied. "You have not touched it." At her look of surprise. "Eating is vital to survival, sugar. You are thinner than most females your age." That being said he picked up his own and took a huge messy bite. Picked up a napkin and wiped the mess from his face.
The muscles under his polo bunching and retracting with his movements. The feel of those muscles tight around her waist as he led her through the huge expanse of shops had been glorious. She had tried to keep from feeling it. Tried to block it out. But now. His intense gaze on her. She was lost. "Go on. Your turn." He coaxed gently.
She did as he said and picked up her own. Took a tentative bite. It was more than she was used to. It looked like one from the facility but it tasted so much better. Not dry and overcooked. The ketchup and mustard and pickle were just right. It was delicious.
"Good girl," He smiled and took another huge bite of his own. He let silence fall as they finished their burgers. Matching bite for bite. She was so unsure. He had known that proving her weak would crush her. But he had no choice. She had left him no choice. She had finished her burger and was on to her fries. She looked around the huge area of the food court and froze. William followed her gaze and his eyes narrowed. That dumb shit. "Not a word. If he approaches. Not a word." His tight-lipped warning had her submissive again. Her wolf on its belly. Head low. "Drink your shake, sugar." He said pushing the cup in front of her. She took it and obeyed. Very confused. How in the hell had she submitted so fast. This was not the first time his voice caused her to do exactly as he said.
"Hello, Alexandria." A voice said next to her. William's low growl of warning had the wolf behind her taking a step back. "Ah one of the sons. William right?"
"What do you want, Skud?" William asked his voice deadly low.
"To say hello to my niece. I had not gotten a chance to see her before her father and I were sent on that fools mission to...well." The nasty decaying scent of the male turned Alexandria's stomach. What had happened to him? She chanced a look at William and he nodded. She raised her eyes to the male.
"Hello, Uncle." Alexandria replied. "I thought you had followed Dad to the end?"
"No. I tried to tell them that the mission was insane. I had done some recon to see what we were up against. If the Alpha did not kill us. The Luna would have. Margarette is a force. I got stupid and approached her once. She would have stuck me like a pig if Marcus had not intervened." Skud replied. "I am sorry. I did try to talk sense into Dem. He was confident that the Doctor would not do that to us."
"How old was she?" William asked curiously. Perhaps this wolf could put a finer point on how old she is.
"She was but an infant. Perhaps a year old." Skud replied. He looked at his niece with a prideful smile. "A full grown female now. Twenty-two this last August. That sick fuck did not tell you when your birthday was did he?" She shook her head. "August nineteenth." Then he walked away. Nothing more to be said.
