Chapter 26 Alone with the Triplets
Emily
The car ride home from the wedding was a blur of exhaustion and leftover adrenaline. I found myself sandwiched between Luca and Logan in the backseat, while Leo drove. The familiar scent of pine and musk surrounded me, and I had to fight
the urge to lean into their warmth.
As we pulled up to the pack house, a realization hit me like a ton of bricks. With Mom and Alpha Christ off on their honeymoon, I'd be spending the next month alone with the triplets. Holy crap.
This was the first time we'd be alone together for an extended period since the whole mate bond fiasco. My heart started racing, and I prayed to the Moon Goddess that the boys couldn't hear it. "Home sweet home," Leo announced as we stepped inside.
I tried to act nonchalant, like the thought of being alone with them didn't make my insides twist into knots. "So, um, what's the plan? Are we ordering pizza or something?"
Logan chuckled. "Always thinking with your stomach, eh, Em?"
I rolled my eyes, grateful for the familiar banter. It helped mask my nerves. "Well, excuse me for being hungry after all that dancing."
"I could eat," Luca chimed in, stretching his arms above his head. The movement made his shirt ride up, revealing a sliver of toned abs. I quickly averted my eyes, cursing my traitorous hormones.
As we settled into the living room with our pizza (half meat lovers for the boys, half veggie for me), I decided to steer the conversation to safer topics.
"So, what's a typical Alpha and Luna honeymoon like?" I asked, taking a bite of my slice. "I'm guessing it's not just lounging on a beach somewhere."
The triplets exchanged glances before Leo spoke up. "It's more like a diplomatic tour, actually. They'll be visiting allied packs, strengthening bonds, maybe even forging new alliances." "Really?" I leaned forward, genuinely intrigued. "Is it just werewolf packs, or...?"
"Not necessarily," Logan replied. "We're on good terms with a few other shapeshifter groups too. There are a couple of werebear and werebull packs that have been allies of ours for generations." My eyes widened. "Werebears? Werebulls?"
Luca grinned. "Oh yeah, the supernatural world is way bigger than just wolves and witches. There are all sorts of shifters out there."
"Wow," I breathed, my mind racing with possibilities. "So what exactly do Alpha and Luna do on these visits? What are their duties?"
The triplets seemed pleased by my interest. "Well," Leo began, setting down his pizza, "the Alpha's main job is to represent the pack's strength and interests. He'll participate in ceremonies, discuss territory agreements, that sort of thing." "And the Luna?" I prompted.
"The Luna's role is just as important," Logan explained. "She's often seen as the heart of the pack. She'll meet with other Lunas, discuss pack welfare, maybe even participate in healing rituals if she has the ability."
I nodded, absorbing the information. It all sounded so official, so important. A far cry from the high school drama I was used to dealing with.
"You know," Luca said casually, "this is all stuff you'll need to know in a few years."
I blinked, confused. "What do you mean?"
"Well, as our mate, you'll be the next Luna," Leo stated, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
The pizza in my mouth suddenly felt like cardboard. I swallowed hard, my mind reeling. "I... I haven't really thought about that," I admitted.
The triplets must have sensed my unease because they quickly backtracked.
"Hey, no pressure," Logan said softly. "We didn't mean to freak you out."
"Yeah," Luca added. "That's way in the future. No need to worry about it now."
I nodded, grateful for their understanding. An awkward silence fell over the room, and I scrambled for a way to lighten the mood.
"So," I said, forcing a teasing tone into my voice, "I'm guessing you guys won't be participating in any Luna duties on your future diplomatic trips, huh?" The tension broke as the boys laughed.
"I don't know," Luca said with a wink. "I think I'd look pretty good in a tiara."
I snorted, the mental image of Luca in full Luna regalia too ridiculous to resist. "Oh yeah, I'm sure you'd be a real hit at the tea parties."
"Hey now," Logan protested, a mischievous glint in his eye. "We've got plenty of skills that could come in handy during diplomatic visits."
"Oh really?" I raised an eyebrow. "Like what? Your ability to eat your body weight in pizza?"
Leo smirked. "I think Logan's referring to our more... intimate skills."
I felt my face heat up. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Well," Luca drawled, leaning back with a self-satisfied grin, "let's just say we know how to make sure everyone leaves the negotiation table feeling very... satisfied."
It took me a moment to catch his meaning, and when I did, I gasped in mock outrage. "Oh my god, you guys are terrible! You can't just sleep your way through diplomatic relations!" They burst into laughter at my scandalized expression.
"Relax, Em," Logan chuckled. "We're just joking. Mostly."
I rolled my eyes, trying to ignore the little spark of jealousy their words had ignited. "Right. I'm sure you've slept with half the pack by now. Probably half the hockey league too, Mr. Star Players." The atmosphere in the room shifted subtly. The boys exchanged glances, their expressions growing more serious.
"That was in the past," Leo said quietly. "Before we knew about the mate bond."
"Yeah," Luca added. "You're the only one we need now, Emily."
I swallowed hard, unsure how to respond to the intensity in their gazes. A question bubbled up before I could stop it. "So... have you guys been with Jasmine?"
Their reaction surprised me. Instead of the guilty or evasive looks I'd expected, they seemed almost confused by the question.
"Jasmine?" Logan repeated. "No way. We've always just been friends."
"Well, sort of friends," Luca amended. "We grew up together, since our dads are so close. But there was never anything romantic there."
I frowned, processing this information. "But... I thought... I mean, wouldn't you expect your mates to be strong werewolves? Jasmine seems like she'd be more of what you're looking for in a Luna." The triplets' faces darkened at my words.
"Emily," Leo said, his voice low and intense. "Jasmine might look like the 'perfect' werewolf on the outside, but she's shallow, materialistic, and power-hungry. Being Luna isn't about having the strongest wolf or the best pedigree. It's about caring for the pack, about having compassion and wisdom."
"Yeah," Logan chimed in. "And you've got those qualities in spades, Em. The Moon Goddess chose you for a reason."
I felt a lump form in my throat at their earnest words. "But... is that the only reason you want me? Because of the mate bond?"
The room fell silent for a moment, the weight of my question hanging in the air.
Finally, Luca spoke. "The mate bond might have brought us together, but it's not the only reason we care about you, Emily."
"He's right," Leo added. "We were drawn to you even before we knew about the bond. Your fire, your wit, your kindness... those are the things that make us want you."
"But," I said softly, voicing the fear that had been gnawing at me, "what if it's just fate? What if you could choose again? I've heard that Alpha werewolves are more likely to get a Second Chance Mate. And let's face it, a lot of werewolves see hybrids like me as... contaminants in the pack."
The triplets' reactions were immediate and vehement.
"Fuck that," Logan growled, his eyes flashing. "Anyone who thinks that way about you can answer to us."
"We don't want a Second Chance Mate," Leo stated firmly. "We want you, Emily. Only you."
"Besides," Luca added with a forced lightness, "we can't let you become a spinster, can we? Imagine all those cats you'd have to take care of."
I felt a flare of indignation cut through my emotional turmoil. "Excuse me? I'll have you know I could get any tall, handsome male werewolf I wanted!"
The atmosphere in the room changed in an instant. The playful banter was gone, replaced by something darker, more primal.
"Oh really?" Leo growled, his eyes flashing alpha red. "Is that so?"
Before I could blink, I found myself lifted off the couch and into Leo's arms. I yelped in surprise, my hands automatically going to his shoulders to steady myself.
"Put me down, you overgrown fleabag!" I demanded, trying to wriggle free.
But Leo's grip was like iron, and suddenly Logan and Luca were there too, boxing me in.
"Not a chance, little witch," Logan purred, his breath hot against my ear. "You're ours, remember?"
"No other wolf gets to touch you," Luca added, his hand sliding along my waist.
I should have been scared. Three powerful Alpha werewolves, practically radiating possessiveness, surrounding me. But instead, I felt a thrill run through me, a heat that had nothing to do with embarrassment.
"Oh yeah?" I challenged, meeting their heated gazes. "And what if I decide I want a nice wizard instead? Someone who can actually keep up with my magic?"
The growls that rumbled through their chests sent shivers down my spine.
"Not happening," Leo snarled, and suddenly I was airborne.
I shrieked as I was tossed from Leo to Logan, who caught me effortlessly. Before I could catch my breath, I was being passed to Luca, then back to Leo.
They tossed me between them like I weighed nothing, their movements so fluid and coordinated it was almost like a dance. Despite my initial indignation, I found myself laughing, caught up in the playful energy. "Okay, okay!" I gasped between giggles. "I give up! No wizards, I promise!"
The boys finally set me down, but they didn't step away. Instead, I found myself encircled by their warmth, their scents mingling in a way that made my head spin.
As my laughter died down, I became acutely aware of our position. Leo was pressed against my back, his hands resting lightly on my hips. Logan and Luca were in front of me, so close I could feel the heat radiating off their bodies.
The atmosphere shifted, the playfulness giving way to something heavier, more charged. I looked up, my breath catching in my throat as I met their intense gazes. Were they... were they all trying to kiss me?
My heart pounded in my chest as Leo's hand came up to cup my cheek, turning my face towards him. His eyes, usually a warm golden brown, were dark with desire. "Emily," he murmured, his voice rough. "Can I...ugh...Shall we?"
I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. Leo leaned in, his lips brushing against mine in a kiss so gentle it made my knees weak.
Before I could fully process what was happening, Logan was there, turning my face towards him. His kiss was different - deeper, more passionate. It left me breathless and wanting more.
Then it was Luca's turn. He cradled my face in his hands, his touch reverent as he pressed his lips to mine. It was sweet and tender, filled with a promise that made my heart ache.
As Luca pulled away, I stood there, dazed and trembling. The triplets surrounded me, their arms creating a cocoon of warmth and safety.
"Wow," I breathed, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Yeah," Logan agreed, sounding just as affected as I felt.
We stood there for a moment, caught in a bubble of intimacy that felt both thrilling and terrifying. Part of me wanted to run, to hide from the intensity of what I was feeling. But a larger part, the part that was slowly accepting the mate bond, wanted to stay right here, surrounded by them, forever.
"So," Luca said finally, breaking the silence. "About that pizza..."
The tension broke, and we all burst into laughter. As we settled back onto the couch, this time with me nestled between them, I felt a warmth in my chest that had nothing to do with embarrassment or nerves. Maybe, just maybe, this month alone with the triplets wouldn't be so bad after all.
