Chapter the Wife 18

Chapter 18 Dinner

Gale was silent for a few seconds before asking, “You’re so young, and you already have a child?

Sally glanced at him, “Why? Do I not look like a mother?”

“No, you don’t.” Gale shook his head seriously, “You look younger than me.

Sally knew Gale was joking. She was silent for a moment before saying, “I have a three–year–old son.”

Sally paused and added, “I’m twenty–four this year.”

Gale was surprised.

Sally was two years older than him.

But… that wasn’t the point. The point was..

“You were about twenty when you….” Gale trailed off.

“Yes,” Sally admitted frankly, “I was just over twenty when I got pregnant.”

Gale fell silent

After a while, he suddenly asked, “What about your husband is he also at the hospital taking care of your child?”

The word “husband” evidently touched a sensitive nerve in Sally.

“He’s dead,” Sally said coldly.

The atmosphere in the car dropped to freezing point.

Gale’s lips twitched into a slight smile.

“Sorry, I shouldn’t have brought up a sad topic,” Gale said.

Who would have thought that Gale was secretly ecstatic?

Sally’s husband was dead, which meant she was a widow now.

After they arrived at the hospital, they headed straight to Andy’s room.

A nurse was feeding Andy dinner. Seeing Sally, she said, “Oh, Miss Sally, where have you been these past few days? Andy has been calling for his mom all this time.

Sally apologized to the nurse and took the bowl from her.

After the nurse left, Sally sat by the bed, spooning porridge for Andy.

“Andy, drink up,” Sally smiled gently.

Andy took a sip of porridge and then looked at the person standing behind her.

“Mom, who is this uncle?” Andy asked, blinking his big eyes.

“Little friend,” Gale cheerfully leaned closer to him, “I’ll give you another chance. What should you call me?

Despite his youth, this child called him “uncle“!

Gale was evidently not used to it.

Sally looked at Gale’s still–unbuttoned suit and smiled, “You’re much older than Andy, calling you uncle is reasonable.

Gale wanted to retort but seeing Sally’s smile, the words got stuck in his throat.

“Mom, is this uncle your friend?” Andy asked curiously again.

Before Sally could answer, Gale quickly responded, “Yes! I’m a good friend of your mom.”

Andy looked at Sally in confusion. Considering Andy’s condition, she didn’t deny it and changed the subject, “Take good care of yourself in the hospital. Soon, the doctors will schedule your surgery.”

Andy listened, somewhat puzzled.

Gale looked at Sally with a complex expression.

Gale stayed in Andy’s room for a long time. Perhaps to make Andy happy or for another reason, he suddenly said, ‘How about I take you out for dinner tomorrow?”

Sally was surprised and instinctively objected, “No!”

Andy was startled by Sally’s reaction.

I

“Mom, what’s wrong?” Andy asked anxiously, “If you don’t want me to go, I won’t go.”

Though Andy said that, disappointment was evident on his face.

Sally could see that Andy wanted to go out with Gale.

Gale quickly smiled, “If Andy wants to go, let him go. I’ll take care of him.”

He then glanced at Sally.

Sally pulled Gale aside.

“What are you doing?” Gale looked at her with a playful smile.

Sally’s face showed anger, “What kind of joke is this? Andy isn’t in good health. If something happens to him while he’s out, what will we do?”

Gale said, “Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of him and won’t let him run around.”

Sally still wasn’t reassured.

Gale suggested, “Why don’t you come with us? That way you can look after him. How about that?”

Sally hesitated, and Gale quickly said, “Alright, it’s settled! Tomorrow night, the three of us will have. dinner out. How’s that?”

Sally was horrified, “The three of us? What are you joking about? Who is a family of three with you?”

Gale replied nonchalantly, “Andy clearly likes me. Why not have me as part of your family?”

Sally thought Gale was insane.

She muttered, “Unbelievable,” and hurried back to the room.

Gale watched her leave, deep in thought.

The next evening, Gale drove to the hospital entrance on time.

Sally was already there with Andy, waiting on the roadside.

Gale pulled up and smiled, “Hop in.”

Chapter 11 Dinner

Gale took them to a very upscale restaurant.

Sally felt uneasy, and Gale seemed to notice her hesitation. He said casually, “This is my first time having dinner with a woman. Tonight, it’s my treat.”

Sally felt awkward.

Gale had reserved a window seat. When the waiter served the food, Andy was excited, “Wow, it’s my favorite kids‘ meal!”

Gale piled all the toys from the meal in front of Andy, “They’re all yours.”

Sally’s initially reserved demeanor relaxed a bit.

Meanwhile, Anders, Mary, and a few other friends also arrived at the restaurant.

One of Anders‘ friends noticed Gale first.

“Hey, isn’t that Gale?” He nudged Mary, smiling, “Your brother brought someone here for dinner too.”

Mary followed his gaze, and her face quickly changed.

What was Gale doing here?

When she saw who was sitting with him, she was even more shocked!

That was… Sally?

And her son?

Anders was also stunned.

Why was Sally here with that brat, dining with Gale?

Remembering the other night, Anders‘ expression turned dark.

He had warned Sally not to have any contact with Gale, but she had ignored him.

Anders‘ friends suggested going over to greet Gale, and Mary quickly smiled, “Sure, I’d like to talk to my brother too.”

The group headed toward Gale and his companions.

Sally was about to serve Andy some food when she saw the approaching group, and her face changed.

Gale noticed Sally’s expression and looked over.

Seeing Anders and the others approaching, Gale remained calm.

He casually greeted Mary and Anders, “What a coincidence! Are you guys here for dinner too?”
