Chapter the Wife 16

Chapter 16 Unexpected Situation

Gale, standing at a distance, observed everything that had just happened.

However, he didn’t immediately approach Sally but kept a silent watch on her situation.

After a while, he called over a nearby waiter and whispered a few words in his ear.

Sally had been busy for several hours. Just as she was about to take some new drinks to the hall, a waiter called out to her.

With a puzzled expression, Sally looked at the waiter who brought a delicate lunch and said with a smile,” Hello, it’s lunchtime now.”

Sally was surprised, “Me? Lunchtime?”

She found it strange since Selena hadn’t mentioned that the gallery would provide lunch when she introduced the job.

The waiter moved the lunch tray closer and said, “This is a special preparation by the gallery for the staff. Everyone else has already eaten.

Hearing that the others also had lunch, Sally felt relieved and took the tray. “Thank you.”

After the waiter left, Sally found a quiet corner to eat her lunch.

Honestly, she hadn’t expected the gallery to provide lunch today.

However, she was pleasantly surprised.

After finishing her lunch, Sally returned to her post. She glanced at her watch and saw there were still four hours left in her shift, which made her a bit gloomy.

But thinking of Andy, Sally quickly gathered her energy.

She didn’t mind working hard as long as it was for her son; she could endure any hardship,

While Sally was serving tea and drinks to the guests, the gallery event reached its climax.

They were now rehearsing for the main event.

In two days, the official event would start, and the organizers intended to display Anna’s paintings, created over three years, in the hall.

Everyone curiously stood on either side of the hall.

Soon, several staff members carried out a covered painting.

“This is my mother’s proud work, which took her three years to complete,” Mary said into the microphone. “This is a rehearsal, so please be patient.”

Although it was just a rehearsal, many people asked if they could see the painting now.

Mary pretended to be in a difficult position, “This is my mother’s work, and it’s supposed to be unveiled tomorrow…”

The crowd looked disappointed. Seeing this, Mary quickly smiled, “But since you are all esteemed guests of our gallery, I suppose a quick look wouldn’t hurt.”

Everyone’s eyes lit up with anticipation.

Mary seriously said, “But please, no photos. This is a private plece.”

The crowd put away their phones.

Mary smiled slightly and approached the painting. Facing the crowd, she said, “Alright, everyone, here it is -my mother’s work, ‘Night of Roses?”

Mary pulled off the cloth, expecting to see astonished faces. However, she was met with looks of shock and confusion.

Curious, Mary turned to look at the painting and her face quickly turned pale

The painting, which should have been filled with vibrant red roses, was splashed with green paint!

The hall buzzed with chatter.

Mary’s expression turned dark, and Gale’s face also changed.

What was going on?

“Who did this?” Mary asked, suppressing her anger. “Who is responsible for this? Investigate immediately!”

Everyone looked at each other. Soon, Mia stepped out of the crowd.

“Oh my God! What happened? How could this be?” Mia feigned shock, then turned her gaze to a certain person in the crowd.

“To think someone would dare to destroy Mrs. Anna’s painting!” Mia said angrily. “It’s truly wicked..

The crowd was bewildered. Mary then said, ‘The culprit, are you not brave enough to come forward?”

Sally had a bad feeling.

Sure enough, Mia pushed through the crowd and dragged her out!

Suddenly, Sally found herself in the middle of the hall, still in a daze!

Everyone turned their attention to her, making her scalp tingle with fear.

Mary, that hateful woman, was she trying to frame her again?

Before Sally could speak, Mary glared at her.

“Sally, why… why did you

do this?” Mary’s eyes welled up with tears. Do you know how much effort my mother put into this painting? And you destroyed it…. you’re too much!”

Sally was furious, “Don’t accuse me falsely! When did I destroy Mrs. Anna’s painting? Do you have any evidence?”

Mary quickly looked at Mia.

Mia said confidently, “Sally, stop lying. I saw you sneaking into the storage room where the paintings are kept!”

What? How was that possible?

Sally retorted, “If you saw me going to the storage room, why didn’t you stop me?”

“I” Mia was momentarily speechless, then quickly defended herself, “How was I supposed to know you. were going to destroy the painting? I thought you were just going to clean the room…

Mia’s explanation was unconvincing, and Mary quickly realized it. With a righteous tone, she said, “Sally. I know you hold a grudge from the past, right?”

Sally was annoyed, “What nonsense are you talking about?”

Chapter 16 Unexpected Situation

“I know…” Mary’s eyes reddened again. “I may have offended you earlier, but I did apologize, didn’t I? Why take it out on my mother’s painting? Boo hoo hoo..”

Some people in the crowd recognized Sally as the server who had a conflict with Mary earlier and started whispering

Hearing them talk about her, Sally felt deeply hurt.

“It wasn’t me…” Sally decided to defend herself, not wanting to take the blame. “I never went to any storage room. I was just in a corner having lunch…”

Mia quickly narrowed her eyes, “Lunch? What lunch? Where did you eat?”

Sally was confused, “The gallery provided it.”

The crowd went silent for a few seconds before some people started laughing.

Mary looked at Sally with a sneer, “What nonsense are you spouting? The gallery provided lunch? What a joke! We don’t offer that service!”

Sally was completely dumbfounded.

What did she mean?

Mary said the gallery didn’t provide lunch!

Then how did that waiter bring her lunch?

Sally felt her blood run cold.

Could someone be setting her up?

As Sally’s mind raced, a clear male voice rang out, “That lunch was from me.”
