The Vampire's PA

Chapter 15: His kisses really are a blessing

I stiffened as fire burned throughout my body, stirring feelings inside me I’d never even known I could have.

Alexander’s mouth dominated over mine and there was so much power in his kiss. He was strong and I was fragile, he could kill me in less than a split second.

My heart beat wildly in my chest, faster than ever before. Thoughts about those other kisses he’d given me when he’d healed me before being addicting soon flew out of my head. His kisses were more than addicting, they burned right through my skin, they were ecstasy.

I merely stood there as he kissed me, my mind running away from me, my eyes closing at their own accord even though I fought to keep them open.

“Ashira.” He breathed my name against my mouth and a sigh escaped my lips. Alexander pulled me flush against him and a shiver of want pulled through me. I fought against the urge to wrap my arms around his neck and pull him even closer. Why was I reacting this way to him?

My heart beat died down the moment I realised that he was a royal and what my friends had told me about the royals only a few hours prior. They could bewitch any female with their charm and looks and control them that way.

To make matters even worse I realised that he was the royal who’d drank Nadine’s blood for years and now she didn’t even know where she’d been born. He kept a little girl a prisoner for his own gain for years.

I was started to get thoroughly disgusted by the mere thought of Alexander but those thoughts also went haywire when he wrapped his arms around me even tighter and sucked the skin at a sensitive spot in my neck.

I needed to do something. I couldn’t just stand there for any longer while he kissed me. I was going to lose it completely.

I knew there were only three things I could do.

I could (a) continue to stand stiff like a complete idiot and stare at his beauty forever while enjoying his kisses while they lasted, (b) pull away from him and slap his little royal face as hard as I could, or (c) madly kissed him back like I really, really, really wanted to. But on the other hand the jerk did keep me in the dark about who he was and a couple of other things so (b) was looking pretty good…

Then again there was also another option, (d) do a little bit of each but make sure (b) takes place last. I wouldn’t want to miss out on (c)…

It was going to have to be (d) then.

I opened my mouth for a brief moment in which I almost ended up kissing him back before I shoved him away from me as hard as I could.

He didn’t fight against me but his eyes widened slightly in shock as he looked at me. “Ashira-“

I slapped him right across his face and whatever he’d been about to say was cut off, “How dare you!” I hissed at him, my hand burning terribly.

I knew he must have barely felt the slap but he looked at me like a wounded puppy. “Ashira,” he said softly.

“Don’t you dare ‘Ashira’ me Alexander!” I screamed at him. I shook my head slightly, “Why didn’t you tell me?”

Alexander sighed, “I did tell you.”

“I thought you were kidding!” I exclaimed loudly, throwing my hands into the air and he flinched away from me like I’d hit him again.

“I’m sorry.” He said weakly.

“No you’re not.” I accused him in a low whisper, “Demons can’t be sorry.”

Alexander let out a harsh bark of laughter, “This is exactly why I didn’t tell you! I knew you wouldn’t understand.” He looked right at me and it felt like his eyes were penetrating my soul, “I have emotions and feelings as well, just like any other human.”

“But you’re not human.” I said, “You’re a demon.”

He looked at me darkly, “You just can’t get past that little fact, can you?”

“No! I can’t! And do you blame me?” I asked him challengingly, “A demon has been watching over me and telling me that I was safe with him. You drink the blood of children you steal away from their families.”

“That’s true.” He stated and it felt like he was ripping my heart out of my chest by answering without any repent. “You are the exception of course.” He added as an afterthought.

I angrily snarled at the memory of our meeting, “Why did you drink my blood that day?” I asked. Alexander’s eyes flashed a bright yellow and I took a step backwards in fright.

“Why?” he asked me while walking closer again, “Because you were the most peculiar human I’d ever seen.”

“And what is that supposed to mean?”

Amusement glinted in his near yellow eyes, “It means that you’re my PA.”

“And what, pray tell, does that mean?” I asked as I stepped closer to him and stood on my toes for extra height.

Alexander looked away from me.

“What does it mean?” I hissed out at him, “I have right to know, don’t I? I want to know what exactly PA stands for if it isn’t personal assistant.”

“Are you sure you want to know?” Alexander asked me with sad eyes that made my heart melt a little.

I gathered as much of my melted heart as I could and said, “Yes, I’m sure I want to know.”

“Promise angel.” Alexander said with his head turned the other way but his eyes following my every movement, “It means Promise angel.”

“Promise angel?” I asked, completely confused, “What’s that?”

Alexander sighed and looked around, “This isn’t really the best place to talk about this. Can’t we at least go to your room?”

I snorted, “I’m not letting a royal in to my room.”

I suddenly became very aware of all the staring humans and vampires around us and how they’d all dropped their conversations to listen to us. Maybe Alexander had a point when he said he wanted to talk in private…

What was I thinking?! Now was no time to even consider forgiving him.

Alexander frowned at me for a moment. In two long strides he was right in front of me and he’d slung me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes before I could protest. “What do you think you’re doing?” I exclaimed as I pounded my fists on his back, “Let me go!”

“Calm yourself, Ashira,” he said with some humour in his voice as he carried me away, “I will tell you what you want to know but I bluntly refuse to do it in the middle of a crowd.”

“I’m sure your subjects found the rest of our conversation amusing.” I said heatedly, “Now let me go! Let me down!”

“No, we are going to have a reasonable conversation and you are going to listen to what I have to say.” Alexander told me firmly.

We had reached the hallway with the rooms by then and I couldn’t stop the terror that seized me. We were the only ones in the hall and he was heading towards my bedroom. I was going to be alone with a royal.

Alone.

Alexander stopped walking abruptly and out me down on my feet. He watched me with concerned eyes, “What’s wrong, Ashira? Your heart rate suddenly increased.”

I took a step away from him and found myself backed up against the wall. He’d just become a lot more dangerous in my eyes.

“Are you afraid of me now?” He asked and sighed when I said nothing, “I’m still the same person.”

I didn’t move a muscle.

“You know,” he finally said “I liked it better when you were making angry remarks and slapping me, this painful silence is killing me.”

I longingly looked down the hall to see if any of my friends had followed us. They hadn’t. They were too afraid. I was alone. “Then I hope you die of it.” I said softly and I refused to meet his eyes.

“Please don’t fear me, love, I will never hurt you.” He said carefully, “I am going to hug you now, Ashira, please don’t be afraid.” Alexander said sadly before he pulled me into his chest in one strong movement.

It was strange how he was the one I was so afraid of and he was the one I was so furious with but being in his arms made me feel at peace with myself and everyone around me. It was probably because he was a royal.

I put my arms around his neck and pulled myself closer to him. His grip around my waist tightened and he lifted me off the ground and slung me on his back like we were playing piggyback. I wrapped my legs around his waist to keep myself from falling off of his back and laid my head down on his back. He held me up by my thighs.

He began walking again and I sighed heavily as I closed my eyes, “I hate vampires you know, especially royals.”

He didn’t say anything.

“But I’m not afraid of you.”

Still he kept quiet.

“I wish you’d told me about who you were when we met.” I admitted, granted I was mad at him for making me believe he was someone he was not but I was even madder at myself for turning a blind eye to the truth.

“You would have avoided me like the plague.” Alexander said, his grip on my thighs tightening.

I nodded against his back, “I would have and that would have been better for both of us.”

“No.” his voice rang out purely, “It would have been better for you and only you, but I was selfish so I kept my identity to myself.”

I frowned, “Why did you drink my blood that day? You should have just left me alone, then your life would have been so much easier.”

“Because you are my Promise angel I couldn’t ignore you even if I tried. I thought I would be able to deny your blood but it was too tempting, you weren’t making turning it down very easy either.” He told me with taunt lips.

“Ignore me?” I asked hesitantly, “You make it sound like you stalked me.”

“I merely observed you from afar.” Alexander said.

“You stalked me?!” I asked him, completely outraged. That jerk!

“I am sorry,” he said with a small laugh.

His laugh was cut off by a shout that echoed through the halls, “Ash!”

My head snapped up in the direction of the sound, “Rustin?” I asked the figure in the distance.

Alexander turned to look and growled softly, his back vibrating on my tummy making me giggle. “Stop that!” I said lightly punching him.

The growling stopped and Alexander looked at me over his shoulder, “You are also my personal amusement.”

“Oh, shut up.” I grinned bashfully and pressed my face into his back. I just couldn’t sty mad at this stupid vampire.

Rustin ran towards us and stopped right in front of me. I was a bit taller than him because I was still on Alexander’s back and Rustin looked at me like I was crazy.

“Goodness Ashira, this human really does want to die, seeing as he has the gall to run after us.” Alexander said stiffly, his eyes bright yellow, his jaw tense and his pupils thin slits, “Are you sure I can’t kill him?”

“You can kill him,” I said, “Right after you kill me.”

“So never then…” Alexander said sadly with a sigh “And I was so looking forward to stuffing his intestines up his-“

“Alexander!” I scolded him angrily while hitting him over the head.

“Nose…” Alexander continued.

I sighed and looked back to Rustin, “What is it?”

“Ummm…” Rustin railed off but then he seemed to remember what he’d wanted to say in the first place. He dramatically pointed at Alexander and with conviction declared, “You cannot just take her! It is against the law!”

“I am the law, boy.” Alexander hissed calmly.

“You and your brothers rule the world together, don’t you? They will punish you if you break the law.” Rustin said as-a-matter-of-factly.

“I have enough power to overrule more than half of my brothers.” Alexander stated calmly, “Now leave before I really do lose control and kill you.” And just like that Alexander turned and walked away from speechless looking Rustin with me on his back.

I stared helplessly at Rustin and then ordered, “Put me down, Alexander.” He looked at me with eyes that clearly told me that there was no way he was putting me down. “Now.” I insisted.

For a moment Alexander looked a little taken aback but after weighing his options he must have figured that letting me down was the best thing he could do. “Fine, but I still want to talk to you.”

I nodded in understanding and the moment my feet hit the ground I ran to Rustin, coming to a stop just before I crashed into him. “Thanks,” I said, “Thanks for coming to try and save me.”

Rustin shook his head, “Don’t worry about it I was just, concerned.” His eyes flashed towards Alexander who looked like he was trying to burn a hole through Rustin’s head with his intense gaze. “Are you going to be alright alone with him?” Rustin questioned.

“I think so.” I said hesitantly, “I mean he and I do have a lot of talking to do so there’s no getting around that. I have to go now but I’ll see you later right?”

“Yeah,” Rustin said weakly as I started backing away from him towards the vampire again, “Later.”

I met up with Alexander and we started walking to my room with him looking at me like he was trying to read my mind. We’d just gone around the corner of the hall my room was in when Alexander asked, “What did you mean by that?”

“By what?” I asked with a frown.

“That you’ll see him later?” venom dripped from his words.

“Oh!” I said with understanding, “We’re watching some movie tonight.”

Alexander grumbled something under his breath as he pushed open my door and closed it behind him.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked him.

He grumbled something again, “I don’t like him.”

I rolled my eyes, “You haven’t even had a decent conversation with him yet. You can’t just say that you don’t like him.”

Alexander bent down so we were face to face and poked me in the forehead with each word, “I. Don’t. Like. Him.” He said defiantly.

I sighed and sat down on my bed, “So what was this thing about being you PA that you had to carry me all the way here for that you didn’t want to discuss in front of your subjects?” I questioned curiously.

Alexander sat down next to me, “Well, you remember how I told you about Oberon and his mate and true love?”

I stared at him blankly, “Who’s Oberon again?” I could never remember the names of those stupid vampires.

“My brother,” Alexander tried, “Eldest son of the demon. Ring any bells?”

“Ahh!” I exclaimed with a clap of my hands, “Oberon! Yes, of course I remember. Please continue.” I told him seriously.

“Well, I told you that I believe in all of that, even if you don’t.”

“So?” I asked.

“The thing is, referring to his wife as his mate or true love is technically incorrect.” Alexander said while watching me carefully.

“Meaning?” I asked uncertainly.

“Meaning that the correct term to use is that she is his PA.” he said, “His Promise angel.”

I laughed nervously, “You don’t mean-“

“Oh, I do mean that Ashira.” Alexander said seriously while taking both my hands in his and shielding them away from the outside world, “You are my PA, love, my Promise angel.” His bright green eyes burned right through me and set my soul on fire, “You are my true love.”

What.

The.

Bloody.

Hell.
