Their Mate, My Saviors Chapter 92
-POV
Ayame-
The hesitation on everyone's face when I came in the room was obvious. "What's going on?" I asked worriedly. I just went to help Emily into one of the guest rooms and I wasn't expecting to come back and see everyone together. We had stayed in the sitting room for quite some time and when I finally couldn't focus on anything but the demons in my mind, I decided it was best to just give up.
"Nothing, little one." Conri said.
"Ah! Screw it! The damn execution is tomorrow, and your freaking father still hasn't agreed to ascend the throne!" Vil shouted, throwing his hands in the air. That reminded me of yet another item on my list of things to worry about.
I noticed they all looked like they had just showered, and I knew they weren't in the same clothes they were in when I left to see Emily. "My father?!" I asked in shock.
"He's the only one of the werebear bloodlines that leaders and the new members of the council agreed would be the best option." Zyair said.
I rubbed my eyes, remembering my dad's frustration when he brought this up to me shortly after the Luna Ceremony. "Why?! Aren't there other options?!" "There are not." Conri concluded.
I sat on the couch slowly. "So, he really is going to be king now with a massive target on his back right after I got him back?!" I stated curtly.
"That won't happen." Edon calmly stated.
"How do you know that?! Don't answer that because you don't! Maybe that's why he doesn't want to be king. Maybe he actually cares about living!" I shouted. "Ayame -"
"No! Did you all even ask him why he didn't agree to the ascension? Did you care what he thought about this?" I felt like I was the only one defending him now because he wasn't here, but I just know he wouldn't want his life planned for him after being stuck in that dungeon for years!
"I brought it up to him once or twice." Zyair chimed in.
I stood to my feet and rolled my eyes. "Yeah, right." I huffed before bolting out the door. "Don't follow me!" I shouted before shifting into my wolf and letting her run where the wind takes her. -POV Rollo-
Just like her mother. I mean even down to her unyielding need to protect everyone else's feelings. It's quite the event to see her in action. She is like the spitting image of her aside from the black hair that she acquired from her father. "I got this." Conri ran off after Ayame. Following his departure, the room ticked by in silence.
"Can I speak with you Rollo?" Zyair asked. I turned to him and nodded before following the fairy king to his study.
"I don't know why you need to see me separately." He turned to me and pursed his lips. What? It was a valid response. There isn't much he could possibly need to talk to me about separately unless.... "Is this about work?"
He sighed, shaking his head. "Is it wrong for me to ask why you stopped Ayame from knowing about you? You are her uncle, and she will find out everything soon enough. Hiding things from her is starting to become the greater of the two alternatives. Stop reading the wrong and incomplete storyline, job nib.com has the correct and complete book. Us not telling her about her father's responsibilities was not a good idea. Who knows what that man told her to provoke that response."
I started to pace and rubbed my hair violently. "No, those alphas just aren't good at it."
Zyair tilted his head in agreement and his arms folded in front of him. "Don't get me wrong, you are right there. However, Rollo, she will find out about everything else that doesn't pertain to her loss of memory and how would you like that conversation to go? Would you rather tell her to her face or would you rather her find out like she did earlier and storm off. She really doesn't like being lied to. Just like her mother."
"No! You don't get to say that! If it wasn't for you this would have never happened!" I bellowed.
His eyes flashed red before cooling back to their golden state. "Watch your tone, Rollo." He pressed harshly.
"Sorry, my king." I said, turning away from him in defeat.
"You know who's fault it was. His head will roll tomorrow morning and the conversations I had with her father before his disappearance will continue. He is the rightful heir of the werebear bloodline and he will take his rightful place therein. There will no longer be chaos in my realm." He growled lowly.
"Yes, my king."
"Now, get out of my sight." He added harshly.
I yanked the door open and walked back to the sitting area. I won't be responsible for the anger I saw in her eyes when she left the castle. I can't be.
Once I made it back, Ayame was sitting next to Conri in his t-shirt with her arms folded. Her father looked like he had just come in. "Sorry about this, Ayame. I'm happy that you tried your best to fight for my choices, but the king is right. If someone needs to be of royal bloodline to take the place of the fallen prince, then I guess that's me." He said with a sigh and I could see the exhaustion in his eyes. Maybe Ayame was right.
Does he really want this? Is it fair to force it on him?
I cleared my throat and he turned his attention to me. "Well, I was wondering when you would show up." He added with that same snarky grin he had back in the academy when he first met my sister. "Uhuh." I acknowledged.
He opened his mouth and closed it again twice before finally standing to his feet and huffing irritably. "I came here to tell you I'll accept the bid. I will rule over the werebears, but do not expect me to produce an heir for the kingdom or do anything aside from the diplomatic solution." He responded curtly.
"Splended! Now we can finally kill that little worm and move on to prosperity in the werebear kingdom!" Zyair called as he walked out from the hallway I had just entered from.
Jasper pursed his lips and nodded. "Right." I think I really am starting to agree with my niece on this one.
The shouting from the crowds as the shell of the prince sat on his knees on the literal chopping block while the Tri-Shifter Pack Alphas sat next to the king while I stood behind him watching for any sign of attack. "Welcome all to the end of an era!" The king shouted. The roars from the crowd were clear. They were ecstatic for this day. We all were. After her father's announcement last night, Ayame decided to stay back with Emily, and we weren't against that decision. She didn't need to see this. "You bastard!" Chaz roared over the cheers. Without another thought, the king raised his hand and the executioner nodded as his muscles tensed. In one swift movement, the Fae soldier committed a clean sweep against Chaz's neck, separating the head from its body, silencing the man once and for all. After all, this day was not to prolong the long overdue death of a tyrant. No...this day was the day we acknowledged a true king.
The king rose from his seat and the crowd continued to cheer while both parts of Chaz's body were dragged off the stage. "Thank you all for joining us on such a momentous occasion. As King of the Fae, I have failed you all, allowing someone like Chaz and the late members of council to exist. I will no longer allow this darkness to consume Bodhi Cora! We will bring ourselves back to our prime! Back to the days when those who'd seek solace in the realm were given that along with peace. Back to the days when those of royalty were born with that right and raised with the knowledge to respect those they govern! Because of this need, I bring you...the new King of the Werebears! King Jasper Radavier! The rightful king!"
The cheers and shock were evident throughout. I glanced at the alphas, and they nodded when Jasper came out in a plain black suit that exuded an aura of confidence from a man who lost so much. But also humility from a man who will give much more. He raised his hand and the cheers continued to rise.
Once we made it back to the wings behind the dais, Jasper shook hands with Conri, Edon, and Vil before shaking hands with the King. "I'm glad that you finally decided to agree with my choice." Zyair said.
Jasper shrugged and glanced my way. "I didn't think I could do much worse than the last one."
"I'm sure you can't." Vil grumbled.
"Either way, I'm just here by face. Like I said, they need a delegation, not another dictatorship. That, and politics really isn't my thing, but great speech, Zyair."
Zyair rolled his eyes and headed back downstairs. "You'll get used to it!" He called over his shoulder as we followed behind him.
After seeing Jasper finally convince Ayame last night, I really thought about the king's warning. I guess if we just make sure to sit down and explain to her the purposes of our choices, she shouldn't hate me...right? She is really only missing one last thing she hasn't guessed herself. I felt my head pulse as another headache came on. Maybe I really am over thinking this. I guess the next time they come to visit, I should talk to my niece. For now, it's just not the right time.
The king is right. Hiding it from her, no matter how small, will only make it worse.
