Their Mate, My Saviors Chapter 19
-POV
Ayame-
I shook as the phone warmed my ear. I don't know why I felt this way and why I couldn't stop myself or the tears falling down my cheeks. I was so scared. I didn't know how else to feel. I took a deep breath, and it just came out. "How can I be certain of that?! You left!" I shouted. "We had to sweetie. We will be back as soon as we finish this meeting tomorrow. We were going to stay for three days, but we can't stay with you like this.[wpdiscuz-feedback id="jz5hltgcdj" question="Please leave a feedback on this" opened="1"]J OBNIB.COM asking for your feedback on this book. [/wpdiscuz-feedback]I can't leave you to worry." Edon cooed. I know from the way he sounded that he was concerned about me, but my mind just wouldn't let me think that way. Why...why can't I let this go? It's as if my heart wants to do one thing and my mind refuses to let it. All I could do was keep crying and mumbling. "You left me." Even Emily started to look at me worriedly. At some point, she came up and consoled me. Rubbing my shoulders and resting her head on mine when she should be with her mate. I messed everything up! Right when I was about to drop the phone, I heard Edon groan irritably. "I'll be home in six hours. Wait for me sweetie. I'm coming." He said, then I heard the familiar beeps of a dropped line. They were gone.
I let the phone fall and Emily caught it before it hit the ground. "I will stay with you." She said softly while I stayed on the floor hugging my legs close to my chest.
I shook my head. "Why? Why would you stay with me when you have Kyle? He will be angry with me too and I can't handle it. I...I can't keep screwing things up." I gasped through my labored breaths. I was pushing myself into a panic attack.
"Please... Ayame. Calm down. He said he will be here soon and if I know anything, it's that when those Alphas set their mind to something, there is nothing that will stand in their way. I have been talking to you for weeks and from what I hear from you...they will do anything for you. I don't think you can make any of them angry...well...ever." She said with a breathless chuckle. "You, my dear, have single-handedly tamed the Triplet Alphas. I mean, we can even say that Vilkas is included in that statement. I've never seen him entertain someone as much as he entertains you. Arguments or not." She added.
I scoffed and rubbed my cheeks on the sleeve of my thermal. "Yeah. I don't think so. They were so angry with me they didn't even want to see me when you came into the office. They sent me away...just...just like he used to do."
"Then what did they do?" Emily asked and it caught me off guard.
"What?" I asked, dazed and slowly starting to come down from the stress I whirled myself into.
"Then, what did they do?" She asked again softly.
I took a deep breath and she continued to pet my arm, calming me down. "I went upstairs to wait for them and all three of them came up much later and I was -" "Fifteen minutes." She corrected me.
"What?" I said again.
She giggled and rubbed the rest of the tears from my cheek. "They held out for fifteen minutes before they literally toppled over each other to get upstairs to you. They knew immediately that you weren't okay. They knew they messed up and they were not going to let you think in any way that they were mad at you."
"But they were, Emily. They had to be. It was my fault that we went out without an escort!" I recalled.
"It is. And I think the only thing you are at fault for would be withholding Kyle from me for an extra two hours."
I sniffled and hugged my legs closer. "S-sorry." I whimpered. "I'm withholding him from you now too. Please go. Be with your mate." I begged. I don't want to ruin yet another mate bond because of my childish nonsense.
"No. My Luna needs me. I will not abandon you, Ayame." Emily said with sincerity. I haven't heard someone call me by that title yet, but I have read about it in my books and in their history. The Luna is the head female, like the Alpha is the head male, of the pack. Supposedly, I hold the same power as they do and deserve the same respect. When I researched this, I laughed it off. They even went as far as to say the Luna is the mother of the pack who holds the power of unity and protection while the Alpha whole loyalty and strength. Together, they are to make a pack invincible.
Then there's me. The human Luna.
No one is going to give me, the broken human for that matter, that much power no matter what my title should be. However, hearing Emily say it out loud halted those thoughts and brought in dangerous ones like...maybe I could do this. Such loyalty.... I don't think anyone has cared for me like this accept for -.
I gasped and looked at her with big eyes. "The triplets." I said as I finished my discombobulated thoughts out loud.
She wrinkled her nose and tilted her head. "Now it's my turn to ask what are you talking about?" She said.
"The triplets! They have been here for me. Been gentle with me.... The reason why I don't have any marks is because they are putting me first. They are waiting for me. I was so concerned with...with Richard that I was completely blinded by that fact. By all the facts. I...I was so scared that they would be him I didn't even think of the realism behind those concerns." I added.
"And are they? Are they like Richard?" She asked.
I winced at his name and recalled everything I had been through the last month. Even though they were nice to me like Richard was in the beginning, they weren't nice, contingent upon a condition. They weren't strained or forced. They never told me that I was doing anything wrong, even when I blatantly went against their rules this morning. I looked up at Emily and my eyes grew. "No. No, they are not."
"Are you sure? You are the only one who can tell. Those three have never been in a relationship. Ever. No matter what Adolpha says." She said, rolling her eyes. "But I do know this, they haven't ever fussed over anyone as much as they do you. You are like the rarest set of fine china to them. You are their world. They are trying Ayame. Try to give them a little leeway and see where that takes you."
Emily tapped my nose and I giggled. "I'll try, Emily. Thank you for listening to me." And not judging me.
She grinned triumphantly and nodded. "That's what friends are for! Now, we can stay in here and watch a movie until Edon gets here. I'm not going to leave you alone Ayame." Ha! She sounded like my mother for a minute. It made me feel happy.
"I would allow that, but that requires popcorn and me for warmth, Emily." Kyle said, knocking on the doorframe. "I thought you might be in here with her. Edon told me to tell you he is four hours away now."
I looked at him curiously. That's not possible. "He said it would take six hours." I clarified.
He smirked and plopped a giant bowl of popcorn on the bed. Then he turned on the TV, throwing a movie into the DVD player. "Never underestimate the speed of a bear and the need to console your mate Ayame." He said with a grin. "I'm sure that six hours will be three before we blink an eye."
"I'm sure he's not kidding." Emily said, taking a deep breath.
I pulled away from her and stood to my feet. "Please go and enjoy your night. I'm fine. Please." I said with the most convincing grin I could muster.
"But I found as many chick flicks as I could in the game room." Kyle wined, but I knew he was faking it. If there was another person I have grown close to, it would be Kyle. The big brother I never asked for but wouldn't trade for the world.
"Good, then I won't get too bored while I wait alone." He looked between me and Emily and sighed, tossing me the remote. I caught it with both hands and placed it next to the popcorn. "Good night, guys." I said before climbing back into bed.
Emily raised a brow, but she wasn't budging. Thankfully, Kyle finally caved and headed out of the room. Emily stared at the door and reluctantly stood up herself. "If you need anything and I mean anything, I don't care what I'm doing. I'm here for you." She gave me a quick side hug before disappearing in the doorway and closing the door behind her.
I turned back to the TV and my smile returned when I saw the title. Legally Blonde. An oldie, but a goodie. I hit play and crossed my legs, placing the bowl of popcorn in front of me. If I just stay focused on something else, Edon will be here. Like Kyle said, I won't even realize the time. -POV Edon-
"ETA brother?" Vil asked me for the eighth time. For the last two hours, it has been radio silence, but now they won't give me a moment's peace. I'm not too sure why he is so insistent all of a sudden. The hell happened after I left? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not mad that he is finally showing interest, but it is shocking to see him so anxious without an ounce of disgust or irritation behind his words.
"Is there something I need to know about Conri?" I asked curiously. The joking question was easing my stress and distracting the pain surging through my paws. Bears are fast, but we aren't ones for long distance running. I had to train myself to push past twenty miles just so I could keep up with Conri and Vilkas. Not surprised though. Werebears catch their prey pretty quickly. Short distance is all we need.
"It is a story for when we get back, brother. Now, Eta?" Conri asked shortly. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it looks like all three of us are just as anxious to know if she is okay. We are finally starting to become in sync with our emotions surrounding her. I wanted to ask them to call her again, but I knew there wasn't any point to it. They called Emily and her phone went straight to voicemail. Then, they called Ayame and the same result followed. I need her to be okay. Constantly blowing up her phone is only making me and my spirit anxious. "I'm almost there guys, I see the border." I called back through the link.
Pushing through the pain for another hour, I was almost there, but then I caught a scent. Sh*t. Rogues. I barred my teeth before taking a deep breath and sending a roar throughout the woods. Any guards nearby will hear it. "Alpha Edon, what are you doing back so soon, sir?" "Don't ask me questions. Get your asses to the Southeastern boarder. There are rogues here. Nine of them and I will need assistance. I have to get back to the pack house now! I don't have time for this!" I growled.
"Let me take over." My spirit asked, but I couldn't risk it. Ayame was already terrified. If I let my spirit take over, I might barge into her room as a bear and scare the life out of her. We'd...we'd lose her forever. She hasn't even seen our spirits yet. She wouldn't even know it was me. I skidded to a halt and the mangy wolves of varying colored fur pushed themselves through the trees. When they saw me, they faltered for a second, but not long enough before one lunged at me. I immediately got up on my back legs and grabbed him by the neck, slamming him into a tree. Hearing the satisfying snap that followed made me smirk darkly. I was not complaining. "Five clicks away and closing. We will be there soon, Alpha! Three of us."
"That should be enough." Once I dropped the first brave soul, I growled back and slashed my claw against another rogue from its snout all the way to it's tail. That one didn't even bother to get back up. I need to see my mate and they are getting in the way. Another group of insignificant people getting in the way! I felt my bear taking over and then I heard it.
Ayame's sing-song voice from back at the market. "Making sure you don't maim anyone is the least I could do." Then the giggle that followed after. Her soft small hands slowly combing through my hair. So soothing.
I took a deep breath and roared again, taking back control. I want these flea motels to back off. I need to get out of here. I'm in control. I just need to stay that way. Another jumped for my back and I spun around to catch him in my claws just in time, then flicked the idiot clean across a few branches before he landed on a boulder.
"We are here, sir!" There were only six left and two of the warriors were Lycans. Perfect.
"Good, this shouldn't take long. There are four of us and six of them. Kill them all. There is one that is already immobile. He will be the one we take in." I ordered.
"Yes, alpha!" They called and I let the onslaught begin. Not even five minutes later, we had confirmed the targeted rogues as dead and the one I skewered earlier was well enough to be tortured.... For a while.
"Well done alpha Edon. Great quick thinking!" One of the Lycans called, blatantly ass-kissing.
"Yeah, clean up here and I want a full report of what that mutt has to say tomorrow morning. Until then, do not disturb me." I warned, before racing back to the packhouse.
Once I made it to the front yard, I shifted back to my human form and raced up the stairs. I didn't even bat an eye to see if there was anyone else. I just want to see her. I want Ayame! I burst open her door and she jumped when she saw me. She was holding a towel wrapped around her body, accentuating her curves and resting just above her plump little ass. The curves underneath that fluffly fabric were sinful. Her hand rubbing her hair with another cloth froze in place. "Ayame." I said in relief. She was just getting out of the bathroom from washing up. The worry, fear, concern of my vivid imagination was long forgotten. There were no bags on her bed and no indication that she would be going anywhere. Just a half eaten bowl of popcorn and a dvd menu resting on Legally Blonde Two. Ayame's soft brown eyes looked me over before slowly zoning in on a place I didn't think she would see anytime soon.
Damn. I forgot. I'm...naked.
