Chapter 222 - Everything Spoken

"Mr. Foster!" Fatima almost screamed in shock. She widened her eyes, looking at the man in front of her with disbelief.

She wasn't allowed to get close to the villa; she could only work within the estate. Did that mean she would become a gardener, tending to flowers and plants? Would she ever have the chance to get close to Max in the future?

For him, she was willing to stay as a maid in this estate. For him, she was willing to swallow her pride and endure humiliation. But over these past few years, he not only hadn't spoken a few words to her, but now he was punishing her like this.

"Mr. Foster, I was wrong," Fatima sniffled, her eyes reddening, tears threatening to burst forth any second. "I shouldn't have lied, and I won't do it again in the future."

Mx, however, averted his eyes and no longer looked at her.

"Get out," the man said coldly, his tone icy.

"Mr. Foster..." Fatima's tears finally flowed uncontrollably.

Beside her, Lance glanced at her and sternly warned, "You should leave now, or else I'll have someone escort you out later."

Fatima's expression froze, a hint of despair flickering in her eyes.

She knew the outcome was already unchangeable, so she wiped away her tears with the back of her hand and then slowly stood up from the edge of the bed.

Reluctantly, she glanced at Max one last time and had to take one step at a time as she exited the bedroom.

"Mr. Foster, how's your health? Do you feel okay?" As Fatima left, the doctor immediately asked Max in a hushed tone.

"Fine," Max replied expressionlessly with those two words, but his gaze slowly drifted toward Lance. "Go bring her here," he said.

Upon hearing this, Lance immediately understood.

Mr. Foster wanted him to fetch the madam.

"Yes," he nodded respectfully and acknowledged.

A that moment, Charlotte was in her own room.

Thinking about the scene just now, she couldn't help but furrow her brows slightly. She had abruptly left earlier because she didn't want to stay there and watch Max and Fatima interact.

But after leaving, she felt some regret. After all, she was the legitimate wife, so why had she been the one to leave? She should have confidently driven Fatima away.

As she was lost in these thoughts, there was a knock on the door.

"Madam, it's me," came Lance's chilly voice from outside the door.

Charlotte didn't say anything; she simply walked over and opened the door.

"What's the matter?" She looked at Lance with a faint expression, a hint of weariness in her eyes.

In an unusual display of politeness, Lance smiled at her and said, "Madam, Mr. Foster wants you to come over. He has something to say to you."

"He has something to say to me?" Charlotte repeated softly, her gaze complex and unreadable.

Lance understood that Charlotte might not be willing to go over after what had just happened with Fatima, so he added, "Madam, Mr. Foster knows about all the sacrifices you've made for him. Right now, he just wants to see you."

"If it weren't for that máid, Fatima, falsely claiming to have taken care of Mr. Foster for three days and nights, he wouldn't have let her continue to stay in the bedroom. Madam, please don't mind. Mr. Foster has already dealt with it." 13:45

Charlotte listened in silence, finally getting a rough understanding of the situation.

As it turned out, Fatima had told such a ridiculous lie.

Charlotte didn't dwell on it and nodded decisively, "Alright, I'll go see him."

Charlotte returned to Max's bedroom.

When she walked in, the doctor and Lance had both left on their own.

In an instant, only Max and Charlotte remained.

Max was half-sitting on the bed, bathed in the soft sunlight, and he seemed to have a golden aura about him.

ng Charlotte approach, he, in a rare occurrence, curved the corner of his lips into a very faint smile.

Max was smiling.

Charlotte had hardly seen him smile before.

But at this moment, Charlotte clearly caught the fleeting smile at the corner of his lips.

He looked handsome when he smiled, like freshly sunlit snow on a high mountain, or a breeze of the gentlest, lightest tranquility, beautiful and tender

"Come here," he called her over again.

Charlotte's steps didn't move, and she gently asked, "Max, your injury..."

"It's already fine," Max's expression was very calm, devoid of any signs of pain, as if he had truly made a full recovery. He stared directly at Charlotte and said again, "Come here."

Charlotte didn't say anything, she simply moved to the edge of the bed.

She looked down at the man and was about to speak when Max preempted her, saying, "Thank you."

Max fixed his deep gaze on her, and there seemed to be a glimmer of stars in his eyes. "I don't know exactly what happened while I was unconscious, but I could feel someone beside me... She gave me water, held my hand, and told me to get better quickly." "Just now, it was my fault."

Suddenly, Max said this.

Was he admitting to his mistake?

Charlotte's eyes widened slightly, and a hint of surprise flashed in her gaze.

"I should have thanked you first," the man said, his lips tightening slightly, his voice low,

"No, Max," Charlotte shook her head, suddenly speaking from the heart. She instinctively crouched down, and tilted her head, like a young girl gazing up at the man in front of her. "I also have something to apologize for. It's my fault for not understanding clearly and mistaking you for the one who helped my brother, Edward... Benjamin, I wrongly thought he was the one who helped my brother, which is why I invited him to dinner."

"Brother, I owe you a meal," she said, her lips curling slightly, her eyes also softening as she smiled.

Max seemed momentarily dazed by her smile. He blinked slightly.

Charlotte just felt a sense of relief in her heart and mind.

During these past few days, the tension and misunderstandings between her and Max seemed to have dissipated in this moment. At least, there was much more clarity between them. Many things have been addressed. This feeling was naturally a good one. Charlotte looked at Max's handsome and clear-cut face, and a thought suddenly crossed her mind. Perhaps, she could use this opportunity to lay everything out- tell Max that she liked him, that she wouldn't like any other man, and certainly not Benjamin... Thinking this, Charlotte pinched her fingers and looked up at Max's profound eyes. "Brother, can I tell you something...".
