The Sway and Slide of Love

Chapter 432

Chapter 432

"What did you just say?" Hendrix asked.

He seemed to doubt what he'd heard, his voice tinged with obvious disbelief.

Noelle repeated herself.

"Is she out of her mind?" Hendrix mused expressionlessly once he heard her clearly.

His reaction made Noelle pause. She couldn't help but chuckle.

Hendrix, however, was sporting furrowed brows and a serious expression.

"Let's just take it as her talking nonsense," Noelle said.

"Was it Jean or Dylan who said it?"

Upset by the question, Noelle couldn't help but frown for a brief moment. "Didn't I just say it was Jean?" Hendrix smirked faintly, clearly not taking her words to heart. In his mind, it seemed like he had already pinned the blame on Dylan.

Noelle didn't bother explaining further. The more she said, the more likely he was to overthink. So, she simply fell silent.

Seeing that Hendrix was about to continue changing his clothes, she turned to leave.

But Hendrix suddenly grabbed her arm, staring intently at her with a frown. "So, you believed her?"

Noelle met his gaze for a moment before countering, "What do you think?"

Hendrix pressed his lips together, saying nothing.

In that moment, he hoped Noelle would say she trusted him. Yet, he was just as afraid she'd respond with indifference, saying it didn't matter.

Caught between hope and fear, he decided to retract his question altogether.

"I didn't," he said instead.

"Mm, I know," responded Noelle finally.

Her voice was as calm as ever, but as Hendrix listened, the corners of his tightly pressed lips subtly curled upward.

"What do you know?" he asked.

"I trust in your intelligence."

Hendrix was baffled by her response. He looked at her, puzzled.

"I trust that with your level of intelligence, you'd fully understand the consequences of doing something

like that. If you ever did cheat, it would only mean you've already calculated every possible outcome. So,

in that case, there's nothing more for me to say," Noelle explained slowly.

It sounded like she was acknowledging and trusting him, but something about it didn't sit right with him. His frown deepened. Then, he asked her, "Say I really did cheat on you, what would you do, then?" Noelle fell silent, her gaze lowering slightly as if she were seriously considering his question.

It was a pointless hypothetical question, yet at that moment, Hendrix felt his heart clench. It felt as if an invisible dull knife was slowly being drawn against his throat-it wouldn't kill him, but it was far from pleasant.

"If that day ever comes, I hope you'll be straightforward with me," Noelle said slowly. Hendrix frowned.

"Have some respect for me and yourself," Noelle continued "So, just be honest and don't try to hide it from me. Can you do that?"

Her words were earnest, and her gaze was unwavering as she looked at him.

Hendrix couldn't help but clench his fists. His breath hitched slightly before he pulled her into his arms. "No. I promise I'll never cheat on you."

Noelle didn't respond. She simply stood there quietly, allowing him to hold her.

Hendrix's back slowly hunched over as he buried his face into the crook of her neck and gradually closed his eyes.
