The Shadow Alpha

Chapter CHAPTER SIXTY-FOUR

“Allison, can you please get off the table?” Devin raised an eyebrow at me.

"Why should I? Tomorrow is our wedding and here you are doing pack work.” I asked, pulling my face in disgust.

“Babe...” Devin stood up and pulled me closer to the edge of the table so that he could put his arms around my waist. “That's exactly why i'm trying to get everything finished now, I am trying to make sure that I'm ahead with my work so that Hunter doesn’t have a hard time and I get to spend all my time with you, without any disturbance for the next week.” He explained slowly.

“You're taking a week off, to spend time with me?” My eyes grew wide in awe.

"Of course, my darling.” I leaned forward and placed a sweet kiss on his lips.

"Okay, you can do your work in peace now.” I grinned and jumped off the table.

"Wait, don't you have anything to finish up before tomorrow?” Devin frowned, stopping me from exiting the office.

“No, because i know how to delegate.” I grinned and walked out, leaving him shaking his head in disbelief.

Devin, bless his soul, refused to split the paperwork with Hunter and instead chose to suffer all alone.

I ran upstairs to change into a pair of yoga pants from the constricting skinny jeans and made my way back to the office. Throwing my hair into a bun as I entered.

"Okay, give me a pen and half that stack.” Devin's eyes shot up in confusion.

“What?” he frowned

“I'm helping you finish this, give me half the pile.” He was about to protest when I raised an eyebrow at him.

“You don’t have to do that, Allison, I can manage.” he shook his head, but moved to split the pile in half.

“I know you can, but I want you to finish as fast as possible and the only way to make that happen is to help you. I want to spend my last day as a single woman with the man I plan to spend the rest of my life with.” I responded in a matter-of-fact tone.

“As twisted as that sounds, it's also perfectly romantic. Who knew you had it in you Allie cat?” Devin teased. “Also, babe you've been mine since the day I laid my eyes on you, so I don't think you were ever truly single.” hearing him say that was somewhat refreshing, Devin hardly ever initiated a conversation about our past, it still hurt him.

“I like hearing you speak about our childhood.” I mentioned and his eyes rose to meet mine. “Allison...”

“You don’t have to say anything, I know why you don't do it often. I'm just saying.” I smiled. "Sometimes I find myself wishing I could go back and change things, then in the next moment I look at you and take it right back. I'm conflicted even though I know I don’t have a choice in the matter.” He revealed.

"You should never feel conflicted. Many of the years we spent together were amazing and we had a lot of fun together, we can't write that off just because of the tough times. Plus, changing things means eliminating everything we're surrounded by right now and I can't see my life without this.” “That's what makes me take back the thought every time, I see how happy you are here, it's the happiest I've ever seen you. How could I ever want to take that away from you?” He asked

"So don't, don't think of taking it from me. Remember the fun times we had, remember the grilled cheese sandwiches and the races on the beach.” I reminisced which brought a smile to both our faces.

We continued chatting about the fun things we did as kids and as the conversation flowed, the piles of paper grew smaller. Devin was on his second last application when I heard commotion through my mind link.

“Allison, you need to get here now!” Jake rushed.

"We've got to go, Jake is in a panic.” We raced back to the Blue Moon territory as fast as we could. 'Dristan, what's going on there?’ I asked, hoping to get an answer as to what I was walking into.

“I have no idea, Alpha. I was sweeping the border when I heard the commotion. I'm almost there, You'll know when I know.’ He answered swiftly.

“Dristan is on his way, I have no idea what's going on and Jake seems to have a wall up.” The sound of loud growls became louder as we approached, I had no doubt that it was Jake's.

“Sounds bad, or else he wouldn't be in such a panic.” We increased the pace till we came to a skidding halt at the same time that Dristan did.

“What is going on here?” I yelled as I approached the group. Everyone cleared out of the way at the sound of my voice and soon enough the sight of Jake's wolf form snarling above Christopher's half shifted body.

“Allison, thank God you're here. The kids were playing and accidentally kicked the ball in his direction, it hit him at the back of his head and he immediately snapped. If Jake wasn't here when it happened, something really bad could have happened. We don't know what's happening to him.” Peyton answered in a rush.

"He's turning feral.” I muttered. “Devin, we have to get him out of here.” Devin nodded and stepped forward. “Everyone clear the area, Go inside and lock the doors. Dris, we're going to need your help.”

“Yes, Alpha.” Dris stepped forward as the crowd began to clear, Jake was successfully holding him down, but not without pain. I could see the multiple scratches on his abdomen bleeding onto Christopher's skin.

“No, let go of me! I have to help him!" Taylor cried, fighting against Connor's hold.

"Get her inside!” Devin ordered, but her cries only got louder.

“Allison please... Please!” she pleaded, her tear-filled eyes met mine and her thrashing stopped. Connor's arms must have loosened around her, because within seconds she was out of his arms and racing across the space that separated her from Christopher.

Everyone's screams distracted Jake enough to give Christopher the upper hand. He wiggled out from beneath him and moved to attack Jake, but he deflected and Christopher went flying to the ground.

Before any of us could reach him, Taylor threw herself on the ground beside him.

“Christopher?” She called, which surprisingly gained his attention.

Dristan moved to grab her, but I put my hand on his arm to stop him.

“Chris, you have to fight it. Fight the pain, I know you can do it.” She begged and he nodded slowly. His eyes followed her movements and his hand reached out to hers where it was placed on his arm. Everyone watched on with bated breath as he calmed down under her touch, it looked enthralled by her and reacted to every touch. His shirt was ripped and the feeling of her fingertips caused his eyes to dilate.

His breathing slowed down gradually. He still looked confused, but more in control of his actions.

“I love you.” He whispered low enough not to be heard by most people gathered in the vicinity and laid his head on her shoulder before closing his eyes.

“I love you too.” She whispered back and placed a kiss on his forehead, width tears flowing from her eyes.
