The Second Hand Man

Chapter September 11th, 2011

Today was the 10th Anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. The National 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero was dedicated and will be open to the public from tomorrow.

It has driven home for me the fact that the power I wield due to my knowledge of the future is slowly dwindling. I liken that Knowledge to an enormous block of granite, and Time to a persistent hammer and chisel.

Each day Time has been chipping away at that block. Each day a little piece being removed.

On August 17, 2014, the final piece will fall. After that day I will be on par with the rest of humanity – Ignorant and uncertain.

Strangely enough, I look forward to that great unknown with both excitement and trepidation. Much like an adventurer about to journey into uncharted territory.

In my first life, by this time my body was already ravaged with the life-robbing disease that would have eventually taken me if I had not completed and used the Consciousness Projector.

But now I feel as healthy and as strong as a horse. I have been leading a far healthier lifestyle than previous.

This includes my diet, regular exercise and applying far greater discretion in my choice of sexual partners.

Who knows how far I will venture into that uncharted territory before I finally decide to once again use the power of immortality that the Consciousness Projector provides.

I still have one major concern; in my first life, the Consciousness Projector was near completion by this time. The only missing component was the Neural Interface Transmitter (Interphase Chip) that Steve Ferran had managed to perfect based on a similar device that the German company Westronik will produce early in 2013.

As I no longer have either the support or friendship of Steve. I will have to figure out the Interface component by other means. To this end I have already started gathering the world’s greatest minds in this field from all around the world into my employ.

It may take longer to perfect the device this time round, but as I have already mentioned, I am healthy and as strong as a horse.

As the Rolling Stones’ song goes – ‘Time is on my side!’
