Chapter 4
What the hell is a Rejected?
That question has been running through our head ever since Ancient Matthew said those words. Not one of us knows what it means, aside from him, heck not even Mother knows and she's the freaking Moon Goddess.
After he said those words he told us we need a private place too speak. Father directed us to a meeting room. It was very big and spacious with a giant oak table in the middle of the room.
We're all now sitting there waiting patiently for Ancient Matthew to begin to explain what we are. Everyone was patient except for me and Gage. All the worst possible reasons kept running through our heads.
Are we going to die soon?
Are we going to turn evil...wait that's basically what we are now.
So many thoughts run through our head and anyone of them could be possible. And what makes us really pissed off is that this guy is purposely stalling.
He keeps asking and saying random things.
How are you?
Nice weather we're having.
Did you change your hair?
What's your favourite ice cream?
Okay the ice cream one got a response from Uncle Will, Uncle Cole and Uncle Liam. Mother says they use to have this fight all the time when they were younger.
"Could you please quit stalling and tell us what's wrong with me!" Gage demanded while slamming his fist onto the table, snarling at the Ancient. "Gage! Calm down!" I yelled at him knowing how he gets when he becomes livid. Someone always dies.
Ancient Matthew sighs and sits down at the head of the table. Father is at the other side with Mother on his lap. Everyone else is either in a seat or standing around the table.
"It all started almost 1000 years ago. I was a newly appointed Ancient at the time, starting to learn the roles without actually having someone too teach me and the other Ancients. We learnt how to do everything ourselves and it worked."
"I knew Moona so well. Moona is your Mother's wolf but she was the real Moon Goddess in my time. She's the real one that is up there right at this moment until it's time for your Mother's rein. Anyways, Moona was such a happy, optimistic girl. She always saw the good in people and she was the most forgiving person I knew."
"She was mated to an Alpha as well. Worst possible thing for her in that time. No one knows how it started but all the Alphas in the world decided that their mates were inferior to them. Those Alphas were despicable to their mates. Beating them. Using them. So many things thats hard to process."
"We tried so hard to stop them with they're ways. Nothing stopped them. Not reason. Not their mates. Not even our powers. They still would not change. Then Moona met her mate. And Moona being Moona she felt she could change her mate, an Alpha. How wrong she was."
"She loved him with all her heart. He used, abused, r-raped her. He did everything he could do to her to try and break her but that was one thing Moona wasn't. Weak. Though she still did not reject him or do anything. She took everything he gave her. He had so many affairs. I remember one time she told me she had actually walked in on him with another woman and his response to her was 'Fuck off I'm busy.' That moment broke her heart and yet she was still faithful, adamant she could change him for the better."
"No one knew of these secret meetings between the Alphas. No one ever knew. We would have stopped it as soon as we knew. Every year for a full week the Alphas would take their mates too a secret place where they all met up and did anything they wanted to do with the mates. It didn't matter if that mate was yours or not. You could do as you please with them."
"The horror spoken from that place is disgusting and just plain awful. I respect those women greatly for what they had to go through. The pain. The suffering. The heartbreak. Moona saw it all. She saw how they were all treated. But when another Alpha tried to touch her she said no. She was punished."
"They're punishments were not easy at all. They bring you to the brink of death. They beat her, whipped, cut, burned, drowned. All the worst things you could do to a person. And her mate did it all too her. She had finally snapped."
"She put a curse apon them. She gave them the curse of never having a mate, to always be alone, to never have your other half, to be a Rejected. Those mates were set free and could find a second chance mate. Not knowing what her curse would really do, those Alphas grew old, lonely and depressed. They all beared the mark of the Rejected."
"The lived as Rejecteds and died as Rejecteds. Though Moona was so consumed with rage she did not know that she had put the curse on the future generations. Of course the Alphas would have made sure to have heirs too the pack. She realised her mistake but she couldn't lift the curse. It would forever stay. She told us she figured something else out but she never got the chance too tell us the rest."
"We don't know what happened because we had suddenly just lost contact with her. Until we met Skylar. Though the Moona that she has inside of her doesn't know what her person Moona, figured out. We tried contacting the real Moona but we've always failed. The Rejecteds aren't in every generation, it happens in different times usually."
"Unfortunately for Theo he is the Rejected for this Alpha line. Theo I'm deeply sorry for this." He says looking at us but we cannot speak or do anything. We're shocked to the core. "Gage? We'll never have a mate? Never have our pups?" I whimper inside of our head.
"I-I" Gage stutters out looking at everyone. We see the faces. Pity. Sadness. We don't want that. "I must go." We say and stand up. We walk out the room and head to the one place we know that would be our sanctuary.
We reach the garden in no time and we instantly break down. We both know how we've longed for a mate. Someone too call ours. To have our pups. To grow old with. To make us finally happy. Was that so much too ask for?
We cried. We cried for the first ever, since Uncle Steven and the family was killed. Since the nursery was burnt down.
I felt the anger. Gage was furious. I felt us shift and we were immediately running. We ran in the woods, needing to clear our head. I'm proud that he's dealing with it this way.
We suddenly stopped and let out a pain filled howl. Showing the pain we're in for not having and never will having a mate.
"Aaahh the poor mutt is sad." Her.
"Yes darling. Seems someone is in a lot of pain." Him.
We shifted back not caring that we're completely naked in front of them. "What are you doing here?" Gage spat at them and it happened so quickly. She used the wolfsbane ring on our neck. It stung against our skin. The pain was excruciating. "Please stop!" We begged her, knowing she loves when we beg.
"Good mutt. Now tell us what has you being this way?" She asks with fake concern. I tell Gage to ignore her but she still has control over us, him.
"I'm a Rejected." He says looking down at the ground whimpering. "What the hell is that?" He asks us with a disgusted face. So Gage tells them. He tells them what it means to be a Rejected. To never have someone.
By the time we're done with the story she has a huge smile on her face while he has a blank expression. "This is perfect!" She yells happily.
"Did you not listen? I'll never have a mate!" Gage yells at her, thankfully she ignores it.
"Oh sweety this just makes it easier. If you did have a mate we were gonna kill him or her either way. This way we won't need too." She says still smiling.
We look at her flabbergasted. "That is it! I refuse to do this anymore! I'm taking this thing off of me!" Gage yells and tries to take it off only for it too burn our hand. "Idiot. You think I thought you'd stay commited to this plan? I knew what would probably happen. So I got a witch friend of mine to curse it. Told the hag to make only for me to remove it but she made the curse for only your mate too take it off."
"But you're a Rejected. So you don't have a mate. So that medallion is never coming off. You will listen to us forever."
