The Reckoning of Love ( Sophia Yancey )

The Reckoning of Love Chapter 29

Chapter 29 You Have Given Me Enough

After hanging up, Sophia spaced out as she sat on the couch.

Under normal circumstances, Old Mrs. Lynch lived in the nursing home so that it was casier for her to be cared for.

She would rarely go to the Lynch Residence unless something big was happening.

In the instant Joseph took the phone back, Sophia spotted Louise staring at the phone in the background.

That would mean… he attended his engagement party instead of going on a business trip?

What was going on with him? How could he follow Old Mrs. Lynch’s wishes to call Sophia while Louise was watching?

Was he mad?

Was he such a scumbag that he did not care about his fiancée’s feelings?

She stroked her abdomen.

“Your father is so useless!“

As soon as she said that, she realized that she should not have insulted the baby’s father within the baby’s hearing.

She seethed as she flung her phone to the side and headed to her room to sleep.

Late that night, her phone buzzed on the couch.

It was a WhatsApp message from Joseph.

You don’t have to move out. I’ll transfer the apartment over to you.”

Also, hurry up and cash in that 20-million-dollar cheque.”

There’s also the villa at Beaumount Lake. Finish the paperwork soon.

He had calmly sent those three messages.

In return, he received no response.

He stood on the balcony and smoked through half the pack of cigarettes.

He felt none of the anger he had expected.

He then slowly scrolled through his chat log with Sophia.

Before she knew of his engagement, she would message him every single day. It would not just be about work as she would remind him to stay warm, to eat…

On the other hand, his responses to her were so very rare.

The next morning, Sophia noticed Joseph’s messages soon after waking up.

h

She sighed.

Then, she replied. Thank you, Mr. Lynch. You have given me enough. I don’t need all that.

After she was done replying, she headed straight to the airport.

Her flight was the first flight of the day to Edgeminster.

She had only informed the on-site manager yesterday about her visİL.

She soon landed and walked out of the arrival hall with her suitcase.

The on-site manager was waiting for her with a few men. Evidently, they had been waiting for her for a while.

The manager’s name was Gavin Quinlan.

“Mr. Quinlan,” she politely greeted.

“Ah, Sophia, our esteemed guest!” Gavin quickly instructed his men to grab her suitcase before asking, “Why are you here alone?”

“Mr. Ulmer will be here soon. I have arrived earlier to first get an understanding of the situation,” she calmly explained.

He smiled. “Okay! We’ll host a welcoming party for you first.”

He then moved to lead the group away.

“Sophia!”

Just then, someone called out to her.

That voice…

She turned around.

She watched as Howard happily sprinted over to her.

“Howard?”

She was stunned.

“Surprised?” he cheerfully asked.

“Yes!” She paused. “Are you here for me?”

“That’s right!” He nodded. “I flew over last night and have been waiting for you since dawn.”

She was shocked by that.

Howard leaned over to her and said, “You owe me a meal!”

She chuckled. “Are you willing to do anything for a free meal?”

“That depends on who’s paying,” he proudly declared.

“Miss Yancey, who is this man?” Gavin asked.

“My friend,” she replied.

As the situation in Edgeminster was not good, she did not want to let others know who Howard was.
