Chapter 23
Father and mother stood at the window and looked down. "I want to go to them," said mother.
"No! We have to wait. Everything is going according to plan," Father replied calmly and looked at me.
I know he's right, and his experience helped him stay calm. But I was impatient just like Mother. Devas and Evelyn stared out the window ready for the attack. Devas with angry eyes followed every little thing, and Evelyn stood ready with the angelic sword that she once guarded.
All the amicus were hidden deep in the Myrrh Forest where no one could see them, protected by a magical wall. It served not only for their protection but also as camouflage since Abbadon should think that magical creatures and their good companions are no longer common on Antaris. The defense led by Noah and Bael seemed small like the rest of Antaris. But what was waiting behind the large door of the mansion was not visible. The mansion and the garden were full of soldiers waiting for the order to attack. A cunning tactical move by my brilliant father. The crowd of soldiers behind the door was silent and made no noise so they went unnoticed, led by Uncle Aidan and Aunt Inna. The entire back part of the mansion was torn down to make room and hide everyone. Our defenses did a great job, and Abbadon had his Hellhounds do the fighting for him. As discussed, our defenses retreated and turned little by little so that Abbadon and his army stood between us and them. Mother looked at Father, ready, and smiled mischievously at him.
"Now?" she asked.
"Now!" Father shouted loudly. "Attack them, they have no mercy and you shouldn't have them either! Fight for the good! Fight for each other! Fight for Antaris!" he shouted to the crowd of soldiers who ran past us, and we joined them. Innia stayed behind us with Miriel and some of our friends, but the rest of us rushed into battle. I knew she was safe. Deona and Alatus were powerful, and Noran and Alya were also ready to fight, including Miriel. And as Jade got to them, I knew they had a backup and, if necessary, an escape.
Abbadon roared loudly when he saw us, angry at all the soldiers led by my parents. The earth beneath us shook from the battle, and when Abbadon released his power, she threw the first ranks around, and Mother protected her and Father with her enormous aura. Her skin took on Alatus scales, and her eyes glowed like fire, red and dangerous. Abbadon looked from Mother up to Innia, who was standing there in shock.
"You'll pay for this!" he shouted, attacking again.
We were busy dealing with the demon attacks, and Vaell stood by my side like he always had before. I trusted my parents, so I continued to fight to fulfill the plan to weaken him and then use the union with the Mark as his death sentence. That's why Innia was still in the mansion on Father's orders so that she wouldn't get hurt or worse. "Eliana, no!" I heard Anak scream, and I turned around as Vaell killed the demon that was attacking me.
My eyes searched for Eliana, and when I saw her, I despaired. She was surrounded by demons, and when Father wanted to help her, Abbadon saw it and, aware of the similarity to Mother, he understood that she was their child. He turned from Mother and rushed towards Eliana while drawing his sword to kill her.
As if everything was in slow motion in front of me, Eliana turned to him, and when she saw him, she fell to the ground as she took a step backward. She raised her arms and protected herself with her purple aura, aware that this wouldn't help with him but did it anyway. He gripped his sword with both hands ready for the final blow and judgment for my sister.
"Nooooooo!" I heard a child's voice scream.
The realization of the familiar voice made me die inside. Nyllis!
"Nyllis, nooo!" I heard Innia call from the background. What was Nyllis doing here, why wasn't she safe?! We ran towards Eliana, knowing that we were too late and even Anak's wings wouldn't be able to carry him so quickly. Before the clash of Abbadon and Eliana, Nyllis jumped in between them and screamed in Abbadon's direction, releasing her Black Power. When Abbadon and Nyllis collided, she pushed him off, and Abbadon flew back and landed on the ground. While Anak landed protectively next to Eliana, we all stood there, shocked by the power that Nyllis had to throw Abbadon back. The collision between Nyllis and Abbadon kicked up the dust from the ground, and an invisible sound wave spread through Antaris. All the demons turned to the little girl and looked at her in confusion, but Abbadon stared in disbelief at what was happening before his eyes.
"This is not possible!" He said, still staring at the girl with the same powers as him. Father took the opportunity while he was still shocked and ran to me.
"Now, Elyon! Call the angels!" he said to me, bringing me back out of my own state.
I grabbed the horn that Michael gave me and blew into it with all my might. As I did this, the demons turned to me, and just like me, they were back in the fight and jumped on us again, ready to kill us. When Eliana grabbed Nyllis and Anak flew her to safety, Abbadon also seemed to come out of his state of shock and was ready to fight my parents. He gave me an amused look that quickly passed when a bright light appeared behind us. Michael appeared behind me in his glory, and the demons howled with laughter for angel blood.
"It's time, Paragon!" he said to me, and I knew what he meant. I stormed up the stairs as more and more angels appeared and joined the fight. Innia seemed lost and was crying because of Nyllis, but when I got to her and pulled her close to me, she took a sharp breath and looked me in the eyes. Through our bond, she knew the time had come and whispered words to herself that I didn't understand, but I felt like she was passing the mark on to me. The mark burned into my skin where Innia's birthmark touched it. When this happened, I took on the form given to me by the Father of all beings and felt the power of the Mark within me. Michael looked at me as he fought alongside his son along with Vaell and Jacob. He nodded at me, and I freed the blade and took it in my hand. As I touched the blade, I looked at Abbadon, who was staring at me, knowing that this was all a plan to destroy him. He sent his army before him and tried to escape. But where do you want to flee, Abbadon? There is no way out of Antaris for you.
I spread my wings, and as I flew over the Fighting Scraps, I had only Abbadon in sight. I let out a roar and dove towards him. The fight beneath me was bloody and loud; everyone fought together against Abbadon's demons and beings of darkness. I pounced on him, ready for the most important fight of my life.
But he was ready for my attack and pushed me aside and then drew his sword.
"I have hereby killed your grandfather," he said mockingly. "You're lying!" I replied, aware that his sword was still kept here in Antaris like all the years before.
I watched him as he enveloped himself with his Black Mist. He was once very powerful, and now he is just a coward.
"I felt your mother in you when you confronted me. But you are not like her," he said as his voice floated around me.
As if he was constantly changing his location, I heard him around me.
"Not even the angels will help you," he said, and I looked through the fog and saw them dying.
One by one. Father... Mother... Michael... Vaell... Innia, all of them. Their pain-filled faces looked back at me as they fell to the ground. What have I done...
The fog seemed to be getting thicker and rising higher above me. The blade pulled me the other way as I looked, and I escaped Abbadon's attack at the last moment as he jumped out of the Mist and attacked me. The images of my beloved family flashed before my eyes, and I lost it. Their blood-smeared bodies lay on the ground, and their empty eyes stared at me. What have I done?!
Torn with pain, I fell to my knees... I failed.
